Description
This cache has been designed, named, located and described by the Smaller Half of Nutwood as she's too young to have her own caching identity. The note is the only contribution by the Larger Half of Nutwood.
This cache is hidden in the home of Australia's oldest timber span bridge which was built by convicts. There is a lot of interesting history about Tunbridge so I will only tell you a little bit. The bridge crosses the Blackman River. The bridge is a rare example of sandstone and wooden decking. The cache is hidden in a midway stop for people traveling from Launceston to Hobart. Tunbridge is a very"off the main road" town these days, even the post office closed down in 1994! My family and I were on our way to Hobart when I decided that it was time we hid my cache! My dad (nutwood33) helped me hide this one since he has hidden some caches before. The cache contains various swapables and is a medium clear plastic container. I hope you all enjoy finding my very first cache!
sighend: the smaller half of nutwood. byebye!
Note on land ownership: As far as we can make out from checking The List, the cache is located within the river reserve, however the land between the river and the railway line is private so a little bit of tact is called for when accessing the cache. It appears that both the Midland Highway and the railway clipped the end off a larger property, located the other side of the highway, which used to have the river for a boundary.

Cheers,
The Hancock Clan
On the way home from a big day SSRAT said ‘let’s get this last one
You’ll LOVE IT !!
And boy o boy I DID !!!
In the time it took the Goose to turn the car round I had found the cache (where I had looked before) and added my name to the nice clean logbook.
I had a good look at the bridge last time and its great what caching shows you isn't it?
Thanks for the cache.
The previous visit found the cache was missing so called back in today to replace with permission from the CO. Cache is all snug, covered well but not obvious to the eyes of muggles. There was further evidence of numerous foot prints so expect it has been visited by many geocachers but no one has logged any dnf's...a real bugbear to CO's.
Lets hope it stays put for many years.
While timber span bridges are the norm on logging roads etc, I've never seen one used in a main road. It will probably last around 30 yrs or so...depends on loads I guess.
Many thanks for bringing us here Nutwood33...cheers ST.
Stopped at the 'Steppes' where the first cache on the list was found then continued onto Tunbridge where I thought this cache 'Timber Span' would be a formality as I hadn't seen the last log.
Saw plenty of fresh foot prints but the ensuing search failed to find the cache. Only one or two spots a regular cache could be so expect it's gone. Hard to believe it was muggled but reckon an animal has dislodged and recent rains washed it away.
Don't think I've been more disappounted in not finding a cache but that's geocaching...many highs and lows.
Many thanks Nutwood for placing the cache...cheers ST.
Love old bridge here.
thanks
Cache was found without and all was good.
Thanks Nutwood33.....good fun.
Found with TazScout and NinjaWolf.
Quick easy find in a quiet location on our way through, left behind a scout. TFTC
Nice quick find on a chilly day. Cache in great condition.
TFTC.
Actually, Tunbridge figures in the Tardis family history too - for rather nefarious reasons. Way back in the 80's our aging car (being totally mistreated by being called upon to cart half a ton of camping gear around the state) finally gave up the ghost on the bypass (yes it was bypassed back then too). So, after a hike to find a public phone in the non-bypassed bit (none of that new fangled mobile stuff back then), followed by a long wait, we got a tow all the way into Oatlands to enjoy another long wait (& an even longer putter back home to Hobart constantly stopping to top up the radiator). Ah, memories! TFTC & M's
No swaps today.
Thanks for the cache
TFTC and the nut.
Where is everyone?
A completely undisturbed wander below the bridge to find the cache and wonder if there was ever water in the river.
Thanks!
Collected this cache on the drive up to the North west coast from Hobart. A good hide and good location for the cache
An early morning start this morning (0500hrs) leaving home at 0600hrs in order to meet Budgietas in Hobart to travel to Devonport to try and complete the Octogon series by 2y's tassies Octogon Series.
Left Hobart around 0700hrs and this cache was the first that we had not found.
A quick search soon had the cache to hand, the log being signed at 0812hrs. Congratulations "33" on your first hide - well done!
No leeches today, "too much blood, maybe!"
From here, onto the North West Coast to continue our caching - we achieved the objective of the day and I ended up with twenty-nine finds for the day.
Finally arrived back in Huonville at 2330hrs.
Enjoyed the cache, the stone work of the bridge and being able to report another find on a "nutwood" cache. Congrats to red tag and wilco on getting the FTF for this one.
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.
You picked a really pretty spot and you did such a great job filling your cache with such awesome toys.
We loved reading what you wrote in the log book. Your writing was very neat but the thing that was best of all was the special things you did for the person who found your cache first!
The bracelet was lovely and the skeleton was very scary but very cool
I found the cache just after 'wilco' so he got to keep them but i was lucky enough to see all of them.
Thank you for the cache. I hope you put another one out. I will have to beat wilco to the next one
from red tag
PS: a funny thing happened I thought I would tell you.... after we found your cache I was playing near the water, wilco called out "don't fall in!' and guess what? .. I fell in! ... i had very wet feet and very wet trousers for the trip home!
