Description

The Name says it all.

Small Sistema container, painted matt black with camouflage topping.

The name says it all as you will see it 200 meters away. If the cutting is too steep to climb go up the track 20 meters.

This is on the W’Bool to Port Fairy Rail Trail (Bool PFRT) – phonetically part of the “Bull Fart” series.

These South Africian wattles have a short lifespan of around 20 years! It's about 5 years old now - hope somebody looks for this cache before the tree dies!!

First to Find honours goes to Crackles.

Parked 500n from the cache and walked to the cache. The rain had stopped but the area was wet. Could see the tree when 200m away. Took one look at the cutting - almost vertical, wet clay, almost 3m high, covered in long grass. No way a wheel chair could get up there. Definitely not terrain 1 more like 2.5!

Up Mrs Y'stassies went and finally reached the top. She spent 10 minutes searching around without finding anything then decided to expand her search - still nothing. She was just deciding that enough time had been spent here when her walking pole hit PLASTIC. She the spent a few minutes carefully extracting the cache container from the mud, tangle of grass and dead wattle branches.

Unfortunately the lid is cracked and the protective plastic bag has perished and the log book is sodden an unuseable. We added a replacement log in a sealed bag in a mint tin which was placed in the sistema. This should keep the log dry for a while. Perhaps the next visitor could bring a replacement container.

The container was placed at the base of the wattle and covered with sticks and grass. Then it was do I walk back along the top of the cutting - about 200m of rough ground covered with very long grass and weeds with potholes and small logs, sticks and wire or do I make my way carefully down the way I came up and risk falling on my face. The latter path was eventually chosen and the initial slow step down became a controlled slide. No damage done other than a wet clayy, muddy backside.

Thanks for this cache Smergol and for an interesting and challenging caching experience. Unfortunately the wattle has seen better days and its days are limited. The difficulty and terrain ratings for this cache definitely need reviewing.

This cache needs maintenance.

The sixth of seven GC & GCA caches we found along the rail(cache) trail today after parking at Koroit Station and riding down to Kellys Swamp.
A great day out on the bikes all the more fun for all the caches along the way.
Thanks for the adventure
