Description

From our various excursions to the northern island we have come to realise that Tassie cachers have limited opportunities to extend their caching skills. We have very many high quality caches but do not have the number and range of really annoying and pesky hides that the inhabitants of the bigger island enjoy(?)!.

Yes, we mean micro and nano caches on large metallic objects such as artillery pieces, historic machinery, 2D and 3D sculptures. We looked for very small caches on guns, tanks (army style, not water), tractors, windmills and markers welcoming visitors to towns and district. It seemed that every town and area visited had one of these caches and we all know how hard it is to drive past a cache – well, you just cannot bypass an opportunity for a smiley.

Although there are some examples in our great island, there aren’t the number to enable us to really hone our skills. This series of caches will enable the southern islanders to develop their skills, to get their own back on northern islanders for the frustrating cache hunts when touring the other side of the strait and for all to curse the hiders of these caches in Tassie. Hopefully the caches will be placed in locations where a true geocacher just cannot go past without having a look. Not all hides will be diabolical – just a few!

This cache is located on a World War II field gun on display outside the Southern Midlands Council offices and Online Centre. The hide should only be of difficulty 2 but the slightly higher rating reflects the potentially high muggle factor in the area.

I was in the group of geocachers at a GC Event.
A small group of us wandered along here to search and no cache could be found.
Fortunately the CO was also attending the event, and so was consulted, the outcome being that the apparently missing cache was replaced.
Found with eepees, rld4963 and KingSmev, with SSR. Very Happy

Thanks for the cache (I think!).
Was hereabouts enjoying a meal with a fine bunch of geocachers at a GC Event just up the road.
A small group of us wandered along here to search between luncheon courses, but sadly unsuccessfully.
Fortunately the CO was also attending the event, and so was consulted, the outcome being that the apparently missing cache was replaced.
So pleased to now add my name to the log, band get a green tick on the map.
Found with icybeetas, rld4963 and KingSmev, with SSR tagging along for a walk.
Cheers,
EPs.

Today we stopped on our way to hobart to look for this cache, we searched the gun for about half hour looking all over it in every little hiding spot possible but unfortunately we couldn’t find it today. Sad

Cache is all good - carry on.

22-Mar-19
It is there - it just takes some systematic searching and a lot of luck.

It seems this cache has disappeared so we're archiving it to stop it showing up in searches and on maps.
If it happens to reappear the cache owner can re-enable it by posting and "Unarchive" log.

We searched high and low and couldn't find this cache. We phoned a friend who had found it previously and even with their help we still couldn't find it. Thanks anyway.

Dropped by this GZ today with EeePees to have a look for this sneaky little critter in the hope that two pairs of eyes would be better than one. Unfortunately so luck for us today.

My second visit, but no, not today either.
Called in with Lil Rafa on the return leg of our geo-trip to complete the TTAI Apple series.
A good day with great company.

Well after a DNF the other week I couldnt stop myself and even with it being 10:15PM and dark as pitch we pulled of the highway and I got out of the car and started a search and what do you know I found it in seconds!!!

So added my name to the log and replaced snap quick as it was getting a tad cold now, thanks for the cache you evil people Laughing

Curse you hider. Too good for me today.
G'day 2Ys, I was in the area transporting scouts, then tackling some of the nearby "apple". Looked for about 15minutes, but now need to go pick up scouts after their weekend hike-camp competition, up off Interlaken road. Thanks anyway, cheers, EeePees

Damn damn and triple damn...

Arrived on site just after 9.00am and with the object set back from the footpath, I thought the chances of success were looking good. Well, we know what thought thought don't we........

This was another case of giving it a good going over.....I've probably only missed one spot to check...which is the one hiding the cache!!! Oh well...I have no doubt I'll be back again one day....so will try again.

Thanks again guys...

on our way to Symmons Plains for the eggs V8 experience (40th birthday present) we dropped into Oatlands to search for this cache. We didn't have a lot of time but fortunately didn't need it. We had it found, logged and replaced in under 5 minutes. Now on to the track for her drive! TFTC

Well finally!!! We've tried this one before on several occasions and come up empty handed but today our luck was in and mr sharnie's tribe found it. Thank goodness we can cross this one off our list at last. TFTC

Well 2ystassies, at 2.45 pm on Saturday 6 December 2014 aus2 was a very happy man. After numerous attempts he finally found this cache. He was not going to give up on this one - have to give him full marks for perseverance. Thank you for such a challenging cache.

Too good for us - but we will be back.

I must admit I had tried this one a few times before.
With some things falling in place Today I managed a quick find.

03-Aug-14
Ok so we know it's there somewhere but we just can't find it. We felt in every nook and cranny and looked over and under and have to admit it's beaten us again. We'll be back!

21-Apr-14
Given the recent DNF's we called in today to check and yes it is still there - an elusive little blighter isnt it!!! Happy hunting.

02-Mar-14
We searched high and low, in and out, over and under. No luck. Very sneaky hide? Cache blindness? Gone? Not sure. Thanks for making us stop and take in some history though. Try another time Smile

15-Feb-14
spent about 20 minutes looking with Smiley_bear with no luck. it was a late stormy afternoon, with some heavy rain, big claps of thunder and cracks of lightning but the sprinker over the fence caused us more water issues than the storms!

27-Jan-14
Well we looked and looked but no luck for us here today. And we nearly had the main street to ourselves which meant we could search without interruptions. We'll be back!

25-Dec-13
This one took longer than it should have :/ TFTC

Another curse you cache found on my way home.
There seems to be lots of people around today - maybe its the warm weather?
Thanks for the cache

12-Nov-13
A good one to get at 7am. Mr Beetle incorporated this one in to his early morning walk from the free camp site in Oatlands. Would be a difficult one to get later in the day. Thanks.

06-Oct-13
Took a bit of searching for this one... but found it in the end!!

Did this one after a big day of completing Budgietas' TTAI series!

23-Jun-13
On the way back from a netball weekend, four of us (me, Mrs RC and two no-cachers) scoured the gun in 3 degree temperatures.
I had just declared it no-find-let's-go-home when I stuck my fingers in one last place and had it.
Thanks.

26-Jan-13
Oh yes, I love a group find in a place where you'd otherwise look a bit silly laying on the ground peering up underneath the piece of machinery. Thanks 2y's.

26-Jan-13
Safety in numbers and with kids always goes well when looking for a nano on a gun. Found with Makky Brown, wilco and Dippy. TFTC

Found this one in the company of whitewebbs, MakkyBrown and Dippy following the event in Campbell Town.

Found on our way to Hobart on an early morning raid to capture some Bingo Racers. A quick search resulted in our last find for this series. Thanks 2y's for keeping us on our toes and for the cache.

Our last cache of the trip, and a relatively easy find. Thanks for the cache

25-Oct-12
Hi 2ys. Drove to Launceston today to drop geo wife (and one child) to a craft "event". One the way up and back we attempted 3 of the curse the hider series. One in Ross, one in oatlands and one in Perth. Found two of the caches (oatlands and Perth) and a dnf on Ross, not due to muggles, but due to poor searching ability of the 6 of us. Anyway thanks you for the caches as they broke up the trip perfectly. Very Happy

Hi 2y'stassies
After a long day sitting around the house at Huonville yesterday waiting for the cache mobile to be re-shod and a poor nights sleep; I felt the need for caches today.
Left home at about 0730hrs and didn't really know where I was headed. Eventually drove from Huonville, as far north as Launceston Airport and as far East as Avoca.

This cache was my eighteenth and last find for the day. Drove from "This Was The Footy Ground" at Avoca, checking "Curse the Hider -Ross" on the way, but the government truck was still there. Too many muggles as well, so continued on without looking for the cache, to this cache. The muggle sitting in the park opposite this morning was gone but just as I parked the car, two touring muggles walked in to look at the monuments. This delayed my search for only a short time. Once they left, I had ground zero to myself and the search was on! I figure your ears were ringing rather loudly by the time the cache was found. I got all "trigometric" on this one; the cache was found, the log signed and the container returned to its hide at 1812hrs.
From here, it was back to Hobart; only stopping at Mood Food to replenish the energy levels on the way; to hide two travellers before going on to Huonville.

Arrived back at Huonville at 2015hrs having found eigthteen caches and hiding two moveables.
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.

Our second find in this series during an overnight trip to Launceston. We had much more trouble finding this cache than it really deserved - it wasn't until after I'd said "let's give this one a miss" for the fourth time and then found a way to take a fresh look that I finally came up with the cache.

11-Oct-12
Found it at 8.30am. FTF .Thanks
