Description
From our various excursions to the northern island we have come to realise that Tassie cachers have limited opportunities to extend their caching skills. We have very many high quality caches but do not have the number and range of really annoying and pesky hides that the inhabitants of the bigger island enjoy(?)!.
Yes, we mean micro and nano caches on large metallic objects such as artillery pieces, historic machinery, 2D and 3D sculptures. We looked for very small caches on guns, tanks (army style, not water), tractors, windmills and markers welcoming visitors to towns and district. It seemed that every town and area visited had one of these caches and we all know how hard it is to drive past a cache – well, you just cannot bypass an opportunity for a smiley.
Although there are some examples in our great island, there aren’t the number to enable us to really hone our skills. This series of caches will enable the southern islanders to develop their skills, to get their own back on northern islanders for the frustrating cache hunts when touring the other side of the strait and for all to curse the hiders of these caches in Tassie. Hopefully the caches will be placed in locations where a true geocacher just cannot go past without having a look. Not all hides will be diabolical – just a few!
There isn't any information on this gun. Our best guess, given others we have seen, is that it is it was used in the Boer war or possibly early World War I. Enjoy getting to know it in more detail.

but anyways thanks for bringing me to this beautiful memorial park. i look forward to completing the curse the hider series.
We went to Launceston yesterday to look for the Weary Traveller series and on the way home decided to have a look for this one. After our previous experience at Oatlands (about five visits!) we weren’t feeling too confident and decided that we would have to put a time limit of 15 minutes on the search. Time was nearly up when aus, in her usual bossy manner, demanded that the deer look in a certain area, that aus couldn’t reach herself, but believed was necessary to find this little blitter. Oh! the gloating when deercheetah acknowledged the wisdom of the old. Thanks for another one in this Curse the Hider series.
Hope you are enjoying (and we know you would be) your caching on the big isle. Best wishes from ausandaus2, the big and the little deercheetah.
We soon added our names to the log and were heading North again.
Thanks for the cache.
Cheers from the Posspet BOys

Anne and I have finished our three day tour of the West Coast; having stayed at Queenstown, Zeehan and Burnie for two nights, today it was head for the South and home. We also enjoyed visiting the towns of Strahan, Rosebery, Tullah, Waratah and Savage River. Both of us have really enjoyed our sojourn and it is a shame that all good things come to an end. The memories of this trip will be treasured.
This cache was number twelve and the final find on the agenda for today.
Having just found "Curse of the Hider - Longford" cache, drove to this one for a search. Again, the park was vacant which made it easy to search this cache out. However, the speed with which I found the one at Longford was not replicated on this monster. Searched here and there but didn't see the cache anywhere! Looked in one hole and thought I'd found it. Couldn't get it out with my fingers, so used a pair of tweezers but only extracted a rusty nail. Started feeling around other spots on the blaster; felt something move and drop. Looked on the ground for it but nothing to be seen except small pebbles, had I dislodged the cache and had I lost it? Looked in and there it was clinging to a spot where I could now see it. The cache was extracted, the log signed and the container replaced back from whence it had fallen at 1705hrs. Now off home satisfied with a good days caching.
Found five caches in total for day one. Day two, eleven caches found. The third day coffed up nine cache finds and two "Did Not Finds" but I think those two caches maybe missing in action. Day four resulted in sixteen cache finds and today, the final one of the trip, resulted in 12 finds. Total for the trip was 53 cache finds. Happy with that!!
Have had a better time watching Anne's face as she got a better look at the West Coast. She's loved Nelsons Falls, Strahan, the Museum at Zeehan, the falls at Waratah and her visit to Wynyard plus the gear she purchased during retail therapy.
Thanks for the cache and the fun of the find
Cheers OldSaint.
