Description

Not only did we think this would be a great location for a cache but so did the DaFiChNi Team.

At time of placement we called our cache Clarendon Homestead, but due to Great minds thinking alike DaFiChNi Team also decided Clarendon House would be a great place for a cache too. Hence the name change. What are the chances of two different teams placing caches in the same location on the same day?

.

The cache is located outside the grounds of Clarendon House a National Trust property - 27 kilometres from Launceston. This grand colonial house was built in 1836.

Cache is a small container with log book and pencil

A quick detour and an easy find this afternoon whilst heading north for a few days camping. The place was closed for winter making it an easy retrieval with nobody around. TFTC

Hi Tassie Trekkers,

After working in Campbelltown i detoured via the Nile on the way home, grabbing this cache along the way.
as i pulled up near the gate you could see the cache sitting on the ground, so after signing the log i covered it up better with small rocks. TFTC

With the recent ratty weather up here in NW Tassie it was nice to see a sunny day, albeit quite windy.Having an unexpected trip east was a good opportunity to grab a couple of gca caches which also fitted the various dz requirements quite well.

As soon as I had put my hat and boots on, Murder(the younger of the two canine family....4 yo) started to get pretty excited as he just loves both bush walking and travelling around in the geo fourby. My eldest canine...Sirius...is now too old(16.8 y.o.) to leave the comfort of his bed in front of the wood heater...which has an electric blanket of course(which he just loves and is great for his arthritis). Having walked 100's of km's with me geocaching over the years up numerous mountains, bush walking along many trails plus along vast stretches of beaches etc while geocaching, he has certainly earned his rest..an amazing companion who never gave up no matter how hard it was for him...a truly remarkeable companion.

The first cache I was able to find was 'Great minds think alike' which was situated at the entrance to the historic Clarendon House....some intetesting info....

Australia’s grandest rural colonial estate set in 7 hectares of parklands on the banks of the South Esk River, this magnificent three-storey Georgian house has servants’ quarters, a heritage walled garden, several farm buildings and a rare avenue of elms.It was built in 1838 as an extraordinary statement of achievement for wealthy wool grower and merchant, James Cox, who was born in Wiltshire, England.Although Clarendon was built with convict labour, Mr Cox was known to treat his convicts well and he later played a major role in the abolition of transportation and convict labour.Entry to Clarendon Estate includes the gardens; Australian Fly Fishing Museum with kids’ fish feeding pool and riverside access for anglers and picnickers; Clarendon Fashion Collection with precious gowns from the 1830’s to 1960’s; and the Norfolk Plains Heritage Centre, offering photo collections together with family history records and advice. The house is accessible by guided tours or special events and is also available as a truly unique venue for hire.

The cache was quickly found with the container covered in quite a bit of mud. The log inside was all dry. On signing the log I looked across the grounds to see a chap sitting outside one of the buildings, no doubt wondering what the hell I was up to.Many thanks for placing the cache Tassie Trekkers and for bringing me to a place I'd heard plenty about but never really knew where Clarendon House actually was.

Now it's off to find the cache 'Frog Killer' not too far away.Cheers ST.

We have already done two tours of Clarendon so today we just stopped and grabbed the cache. Thanks for placing a cache in an area that highlights one of Tassies historical homes.

Very surprised the old house is not open in a Sunday. Isn't that the day that 'folk' like to go for a drive? With it being closed there was nobody around so we were able to find the cache without interruption. TFTC

Pity it was closed, i would have loved to of looked around.

27-Feb-16
Travelling around Australia and spending a few months in Tasmania.

We missed visiting Ben Lomond when in this area last year so it was on the list before we board the ferry back to the North Island.

Beautiful weather for enjoying the drive in the countryside today.

Stopped in here on our back.

Nice easy find, discretely retrieved while reading the sign board. Local bloke doing some maintenance in the grounds was giving me the evil eye. Think I got away with it.. thanks..!!

The GC cache placed here is long gone but this one lives on. We were just a little disappointed to find the house & grounds locked up on our arrival, despite being within the advertised opening hours at the gate. There were signs referring to re-roofing & we later discovered (via some fine print on the national trust website) that it is "closed for general public access due to major renovation works (reopening early 2016)". That didn't stop us from doing what we really came here for though as the cache was most certainly open for public access, & due to the above, totally muggle free. Thanks Tassie Trekkers; all good at GZ.

It's a long time since I was at Clarendon House. Today I just drove round the driveway and looked at it from the outside - it's very majestic. A very neat little cache too - thanks Trekkers.

27-Jan-13
Pulled up and waited for a muggle in a van to finish sticky-beaking, then made a quick find. A good thing as we had no luck at all with the other nearby cache. We didn't actually go in the grounds and have a look around, which maybe we should have, but never mind! Thanks for the cache.

24-Nov-12
2 for the price of one!! What a bargain. Pulled up at 4.40 and was unfortunately too late to visit a place we had never been to before. A wedding was in progress at the venue so even though there were lots of cars , the occupants were otherwise busy. Thanks, we will return for a look sometime soon.

18-Nov-12
Found it at 5.00pm. A very interesting place. Thanks

14-Nov-12
We arrived well before opening time. There were a couple of people in the grounds of Clarendon but they were well away from GZ. Hence we had an unimpeded hunt for this cache. Accurate coordinates led to a quick find. The cache and contents were in good condition. TFTC Tassie Trekkers

Hi Tassie Trekkers. We are having a great day picking up the geocaches of yours we didn't get last time we were in this area. This one still makes me smile. Apologies if our hide caused you any dramas. The chances of simultaneous hides on the same day just metres from each other are pretty low - but we managed it Smile Thanks for organising the hide and graciously placing it on GA.

Hi Tassie Trekkers
Today was the second day of a two caching expedition with Budgietas and Cheesy Pigs. Yesterday was fine and just what you want for caching. However, today we woke only to find the weather conditions totally the opposit of yesterday - pouring with rain. Not good for caching and not even good for the ducks!
Yesterday, I left Huonville at 0700hrs, met up with the two other finders and left for Launceston about 0900hrs. Today, left Western Junction round 0645hrs and went for breakfast at Maccas. Cached all day and got back to Huonville on the first of November at 2340hrs. A great trip and I extend my thanks to Budgie and Cheesy for making it a memorable couple of days. Thanks to CraigRat for organising the event on the 31st of October.

This cache was my 37th for the day:
(Boy did those last four logs take some sorting out - all the river caches!)
We've now arrived at ground zero for this cache, and we found it very quickly. The weather is really starting to improve this far away from Launceston, can see a lot more blue sky in the distance now. The cache was found, the log signed and the container returned to its hide at 1620hrs. Had been here and found the near-by cache only a few days ago. Didn't think I'd be back so quickly - thanks for bringing me back to this great building. From here we're off to find "Anthony's Rock."

Day two had me find fifty-one caches, yesterdays caching produced fourty-one finds for me, total of 92 for the entire trip. I got a personal best for finds in a day again today and I think Cheesy set new one again today too.

Thanks for the cache
Cheers OldSaint.

Hi Tassie Trekkers

Second visit to the site in a couple of days had us making a quick find of the cache. It thought it was funny that the cache log book was claredon house, as obviously it was going to be called.

Thanks for the cache
