Description

An inner city cache, but not easy

When I started caching any set of published coordinates that matched within 10 metres of where the cache was found was called good due to the GPSrs of the time. These days I have seen complaints if the cache isn't found within 5 metres of the published coordinates. Garmin, Magellen, iPhone and Android all have error margins against each other, let alone models within a brand.

So here is my new mystery cache. It is a key hider containing a log book.

The published coordinates are the centrepoint of a circle of 15 metres radius and the cache is somewhere on its edge(at least by my measurements, which proves what I'm saying ;)). Above head height. Garmin and Magellen gpsr units have the facility to determine the correct area, iPhone and android only if you have downloaded the right apps :)

And that is all I am going to tell you :)

The last time I was here, I was able to spy where the cache was hidden but, alas, was not able to stay at GZ long enough to be able to retrieve the cache to sign it.
Today I was back at a more suitable time and the cache was in hand quickly.
The has been signed and this is another of those pesky one now off my lists.
Thanks for the cache Cheesy and Budgie.

Hoping to collect some ammunition for the Battleships Game we headed out today to reload our cannon in preperation for firing.

Many thanks for placing this cache and adding to our geocaching experience today.

Did a walk by of this one about a week ago during a lunchtime break while working in the city.... just to see if I could locate the cache considering it had been unfound for nearly 2 years... mission accomplished along with blackened fingers!!! Went back this evening knowing there would be less traffic and muggles armed with a plastic baggy and serviettes to make for a somewhat cleaner retrieval! After a little clean of the cache and signing the log I'm happy to report this cache to be in good order... TFTC

Found with GooseandEgg today I have looked for it a couple of times now and offen think about it when going to or from the Royal, well today with the car park being packed we walked up walked up to GZ and tried out an idea and what do you know I put my hand on it in straight away. The cache was as black as soot.

Very pleased to find this one at long last.

thanks for the cache.

After all those years it's found again! SSR and I were on the scrounge, or should I say scavenge, again in the rain. At least this was a dry spot. 4 years since the last find and sitting there happily, although very thick with dirt, soot, exhaust etc. (See SSRs pic)
Thanks Cheesy pigs, really stoked about finding this one.

Gee, after reading the log below just now we can see why we didn't find it... we think. Confused Oh well.

Found at 23:55.
We came here earlier in the day but there were so many muggles we decided to return later.
Upon our return we looked north, south, east and west but could not locate the hide.
We stood back and gave it some more thought and realised where the hide might be.
Our next problem was how to approach it at this late hour.
While we were pondering the solution appeared.
With the help of an unwitting accomplice we managed to make our way to GZ.
With Mrs DnA! standing guard, Mr DnA! searched for the cache.
This was made all the more difficult because we had to keep turning off our torches as the unwitting accomplice remained in the vicinity.
After a prolonged search we had the cache in hand.
We quickly signed the log, returned the cache and made our escape.
We think the difficulty should be a 5 given the clandestine way we approached the find.
We enjoyed the hunt and the challenge. It certainly got the adrenalin pumping.

Reading budgie's log had led me to an altogether more dangerous idea than was necessary, so I was grateful to quickly spot a corner of the container.
I'd guess the 15 metres is spot on!
Thanks, CP

We had a little time between helping #3 with some renovations and going to the event. So, this cache looked ideal. We wandered around trying to get our GPS down to 0m but we never got there. A combination of erratic behaviour (in the concrete jungle) and GZ apparently being inside a building created some fun. As we wandered around surveying the area one of us noticed a feature which matched the hint. We explored that line (not knowing if there were other features which matched the hint too) and after about 10 minutes an object was seen in a possible hide location. A quick grab confirmed the cache. Thanks Cheesy Pigs for the cache and for reminding all of us that every instrument, GPS included, have margins of error and only the unrealistic can expect our GPS units to show 0m when at GZ.

History would suggest that if Dippy can solve a puzzle without assistance then it's less than 3 stars...of course there COULD be an exception to every rule. I'm not sure, but am happy to make the find. I went to the GZ area the other day and had a little wander around before an idea formed about where it might be. I didn't have enough time to explore fully until today but my biggest problem was finding the orange. I became convinced that I was on the right track though, and after further wandering found it, and to my surprise the GPS read 15m. Thanks, CheesyPig.

Mr red tag and I followed my hunch and went directly to the correct location. He checked one side and I checked the other. I came up with nothing but he had a big grin on his face. Log signed and cache returned. I'm not sure this even qualifies for a difficulty of 3 Razz

Hi Cheesy
After finding "PCC07" and the New Town Bay Series, I checked another cache and then drove to this one.
Having spent a lot of time here over recent months I had a fair idea of the meaning of "Orange."
Got to GZ and walked the line and was lucky that the GPS was still working. Zeroed in quickly and made a very fast find.
The log was signed and the cache returned to its hide at 1825hrs without disturbing any of "the eight legged creatures" lurking in the area.
Not another soul to be seen at ground zero, making the search even quicker!!
This was my 2300th find overall. Thanks for the milestone Cheesy.
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.

My android app pinpointed GZ straight away so I knew what I would be in for. The Garmin also gave indication as to where GZ would be - next I worked out the significance of the hint. I was worried about attracting attention while doing a few laps of GZ but thankfully wasn't challenged.

Hi cheesy. Right I suppose this returns the favour regarding spiderman. You picked my fear very well here. Had no luck with gps. The best accuracy I could get was 17 metres, with the gps putting me 50 metres into the hospital, then 50 metres into Wellington walk. Finally got to the right sort of spot, but then had gps accuracy of 32 metres. After walking around and around and attracting the attention of the security guards (I managed to talk my way out of this) I rang cheesy and said you b@&&er. Some help was forthcoming after some merriment. Found and logged the cache at 7.27. Tftc cheesy

Will admit it took a little while to pinpoint but once I understood the hint I had to wait for Mr W to finish work as I was unable to retrieve. TFTfun of the hunt.

Well done Very Happy. I thought this one was more difficult than Big Fibs and based on the problems some have had with that one expected a harder find Smile. I might reassess the difficulty depending on other finds Smile

As I left work I noticed the notification of a new cache a 4.5 mystery 45mins ago.
Well I thought I had no chance of solving it or finding it before RebornCyclist or any of the other city workers.
My amazing daughter said if you don't try you want know so off I went.
I don't know what to say I drove to GZ got out of the car and there it was just as you described.
thanks for the easiest 4.5 I have found. Its a pitty I cannot solve some of your other puzzles as easy.
Did I mention the log was empty so a *FTF*
