Description
Gilgandra Rural Museum
The Gilgandra Rural Museum is located on the Newell Highway (Dubbo Rd) on the Southern approach to the town of Gilgandra, right alongside the Visitors Information Centre.
The museum is run by the Gilgandra Museum and Historical Society and has an extensive range of agricultural plant and machinery collected from the region. For those interested in these items you can find examples of -Howard Rotary Hoe, Ruston Proctor Steam Traction Engine, Titan Tractor, Ajax Gas Producer, McKay Harvester and McCormick Deering Tractor.
Within the grounds of the Rural Museum can be found - Tooraweenah Police Gaol, Uargon Subsidised School, the famous Berida Sheep Station bookkeeper's office and residence and the Bullagreen Station shearer's quarters. These buildings contain local items from bygone days from kitchenware to doctor's instruments and hospital equipment.
To claim a find simply:
1. take a photo of yourself with an item from the museum in the background, and
2. email me how many blades are on the large windmill (bonus if you can identify what should be on the tail).
Note: Entry is $5 for those who wish to enter and school age children free.
Because of the large number of exhibits on show set aside at least 2 - 3 hours to fully appreciate the museum.
Logs
This afternoon we visited the Museum in Gilgandra. Unfortunately it was closed and views from outside the fence were the only option. We counted the number of blades on the windmill and this answer has been sent to the CO. Included with this log is a photo of the rotary hoe - revolutionary for it's time. Thanks Black Bunny for the cache.
Drove into Gilgandra this evening. Answers sent. TFTC Black Bunny.

I arrived too early to get access to the museum, but I read as much as I could from outside.
Thanks for the virtual.
Thanks for the virtual.
Travelling north to Dayboro we made an early morning visit here, too early for the museum to be open, but a great place to visit.

#GA5127 - 15:55; Day one of a road trip with Sol de lune as we head north for the CacheQLD - Dayboro Mega. The weather was fine at last as we set off from the National Capital and made our way towards Narrabri where we planned to spend the night. Stopped on the way through Gilgandra for a brief visit to the museum and to grab a snap for this cache. Found a very appropriate item with which I share a few details! TFTC Black Bunny
Heading to Dayboro and the QLD Mega and stopped off for this one along the way. Required photo is attached and an email with the other answer is on the way.

We passed through Gilgandra last week on our way to Brisbane and passed through again today on our way home to Melbourne. This was a good place to stop, stretch our legs and have some food.
Thanks Black Bunny for giving us a reason to stop here.

Unfortunately, we arrived when the museum was closed so we could not explore beyond the front displays. Thanks for the virtual.
What a top spot. Loved the small windmill that made Ned Kelly and his kangaroo move.
Great little town.

Very smokey from bushfires but at least it wasn't too windy.... that is until I started counting the blades on the windmill. An interesting place to stop for a break from travelling.TFTV Black Bunny.

Day 18 of our outback adventure which included QOGM 2019. Back into NSW today and really travelled further than I anticipated - St George to Dubbo. Will spend a couple of nights here and decide where to from here.
A little divergence into Lightning Ridge and ran into someone Greg went to school with while we looked at opals.
Thank goodness for GCA caches as the journey would have been quite boring

Cairns trip 2019. Day 2. Today was shorter and took in Conamble, Wlagett and Lighning Ridge. I\'ll have to revisit Lightning Ridge one day. It was still a bit early and it was all closed up, so I just stuck to the main windmill.
Thanks

Day 3 of our journey to Alexandra. Left Nanango Qld on Monday and stayed overnight in Moree. Left Moree early on Tuesday and now it is Wednesday and we are staying in Dubbo till Friday. Collecting GCA hides on the way south as this is the perfect time for me to increase my finds for GCA and my Dragon Zone points. Saw this one from the highway and easy to take the required picture. Passing through today so no time to visit. Hubby would love this place. But he isn't here today. I love how the white boomers jump when the prop spins. And Ned's gun. haha. Very creative engineering.
Email coming.

First for the day and arrived here well before the museum opened. Our only cache in Gilgandra as we got the others here when we passed through last year. Our photo is of Mr Beetle being held up by Ned Kelly. Thanks.
Found while staying at the beautiful Gulargambone Caravan Park during the Easter break. We cached around the surrounding districts.
