Description

Claytons Power Trail

The power trail you have when you're not having a power trail.

The CPT series was placed for a GC event to be held in Echuca on Anzac Day 2013. It started out with a plan for a power trail of GCA caches but ended up becoming a series of caches placed in various locations between Elmore and Mathoura.

CPT Mathoura

Mathoura is located in NSW, just 40km north of the Victorian border towns Echuca-Moama.

Mathoura is known as the gateway to one of the largest Red Gum forests in the world. This forest is some 70,000 hectares and includes wetlands of international significance and has arguably the best access in the region to the Murray River, with good dry weather roads and no high banks.

Mathoura began as a market garden and a pub on a drovers track in the mid 1800s, and built itself as a timber source for the developing young nation of Australia. Not surprisingly, timber still remains an economic mainstay of the area ever since the woodcutters first arrived in the 1850s. The Red Gum timber is used for railway sleepers, furniture, landscaping, firewood, fence posts, and much more.

In 2010 amid considerable local public outcry the Millewa, Gulpa and Moira State Forest was converted to a National Park, now known as the Murray Valley National Park.

The cache you seek is just north of the township. It consists of a log book and pen only.

We are heading to Morisset for the Geo Muster at Easter with the caravan in tow.
Today we left Bendigo for Narrandera with only a little bit of time for stops along the way.

Good spot for Mr Morris to turn around while I sought out the cache.

#GA1824 - 16:10; Day one of a caching mission to Victoria with Sol de lune. We headed over to Coolamon then south through Jerilderie and Finley before heading west to Deniliquin and then on to Wanganella before heading back through Deni and on to Mathoura, Moama and then Echuca where the caching finished on dark. Grabbed a bite to eat on the way through Bendigo and on to Creswick, which will be home base for the week. After a detour to Wanganella, we collected a few in Deniliquin on the return leg before heading south again. Next stop Mathoura where this was a quick find and sign. Today was a nice, sunny day for a cache maintenance run north of Echuca.
All good.

We enjoyed a short walk in this reserve then we looked for this cache. It took a while to locate due to the depth of leaf litter. Though muddy on the outside the container and contents were in very good condition.

Thanks for the cache WazzaAndWenches and for showing us another interesting part of your area.

A quick find once we found the right entry point. Trying to be careful on unsealed roads after last night's downpour! TFTC

Grabbed while heading to Echuca for the night...

Parked just off the highway and took the short stroll to GZ. Cache was found easy enough and even after a while since the last find, the cache is in good condition....with plenty of natural cammo helping the concealment.

Thanks again W&W

It was with some de ja vu that we approached this GZ as we had memories of being here on a similar mission several years ago.
Roma came up trumps again and it was not her turn!
Thanks again Warren and your team for initiating this trail and for choosing to do it in this flavour.
We look forward to its continuation.
Cheers,
from Roma and Max.
