Description

This cache is located in the Styx State Forest and brings you to a towering giant - an 87metre high swamp gum. These gums are one of the tallest trees on earth.

This big tree can be found on a circuit walk showcasing euclypts with a rainforest understorey of myrtle, sassafras and celery-top pine, with manferns and dogwoods.

The track is well maintained and has a boardwalk part of the way providing an easy walking experience.

Please wait for GPS to settle down as rather flakey in this area.

***No mobile phone cover in this area***

Cache contains logbook and pencil.

No need to leave track to retrieve cache

Looked and looked. I even resorted to using the hint.
But when I looked there, the animals have been digging and there is nothing to find here except divots.

A quick find as we did the track loop among these magnificent trees. Imagine the stories they could tell if they were able to speak!
Thanks Tassie Trekkers

Had a nice day in the Mt Field / Styx area, although we were up and going earlier than we wanted due to an incident in the street at 4.30. Perfect weather for the day - 17 - 19 degrees overcast.

Great cache, and what a giant tree

Wow, wow, wow, what an incredible place!!! Had heard of the Styx but never ventured down here before. A local told us that the Tolkein track is even better and has bigger trees but these were impressive enough to satisfy us.
The cache was quickly located and considering it hasn't been found for over a year was in good condition.
Thanks, loving our caching trip to the south west, a place we haven't visited for over 30 years.

Travelling around Australia and spending a few months in Tasmania.

Staying at Left of Field today we headed out to visit Lake Pedder. Wow what an awesome area.

After finding the nearby GC cache Mr Felix walked on to this cache. He managed to leave his walking pole at the cache. He hadnt noticed until back at the car so he had to walk back a 2nd time. Rolling Eyes

A wonderful short walk through a forest of magnificent towering giants. Also loved the fantastically twisted treeferns, like some kind of bizarre fantasy forest! An amazing walk, thanks so much, we really enjoyed coming here.

Certainly a lovely walk in the rainforest (who doesn't enjoy that !) and a really pretty area. Cool
The trees really need to be seen to be believed, but wilco and I also appreciated those bizzare tree ferns ! Surprised
You can really see the whole cycle of the trees on this walk - short but sweet ! Very Happy
Thanks for the cache, Tassie Trekkers ! Very Happy

There are many big trees in the area, but I think this one must be the biggest (not the sleeping one) in the area.

This one was easier to find.
The tree was very impressive, but what I really love is the rainforest understorey.
Thanks!

Left home at 0530 and rewarded with a *FTF* at 0750 in a place not visited for over 20 years. The last time we were on a Forestry bus tour. Nice to see the big trees so well looked after. Thanks for bringing us back. Found easily by using the hint. TFTC.
