Description

During low river levels, easiest access will be via the East Wilmot trails. See notes and maps at....billshep1.wordpress.com/

During winter levels, access is best from the Sprent side, again see notes from above link.

Along with other new caches along Dooley's Trail, a great loop walk can be had by parking as per Secluded Falls cache, walking back down the road and along Chilcotts road, down the 4wd track to the river

where you'll meet up with Dooley's Trail at S41 18.894 E146 11.975

From here you can walk north passing the cache at Manfern Grove then onto this cache, retracing your steps back along the river, then heading south passing various caches until reaching the cache(Dooley's

Heritage Trail #7) at Groove Creek, where 50m or so prior you can make your way back up the Groove Creek track and back to car park. Again, see maps and notes in above link.

The cache is a small sistema container with log and pencil.

Also, could Geocachers please note any fallen logs or debris across the track in their cache log as an aid to keeping the trails maintained. As you can appreciate that with the trail

extending over a large distance, maintenance is a real issue, especially with only a handfull of volunteers.

Enjoy!

Cache all good.

Well this one was the last attempted and one muggle stayed behind at the track down while the other one and I headed across the flats to look for this one.
She had the GPS and had written the coordinates on her hand but unfortunately the numbers had become unclear and she had us heading way further north than we needed to be. As I was sure the cache was at the flats I suggested we turn around and look at 18 not 17.
A wise choice and we ended up back where we had left the other muggle and the cache was only metres from where she was waiting!!!
Thanks to the clue this was a quick find but we probably walked an extra half and hour more than we needed to here.
Then it was the long climb back up the Walters Flats track where Mr Beetle was waiting for us.
So a 6 hour walk netted us 4 finds and we now have only one left to do. One day we will walk through to Spellmans Bridge again and look for that other previous DNF.
Thanks for the series, it has taken a us a long time to get back to it. Just a pity more cachers don't do this track, the scenery is awesome and the walking pretty good except for the last haul out of there.

Set out to do Dooleys Trail with Goose&Egg and Stainless steel rat, a beautiful area and worth a visit but not for the faint hearted if you do the entire trail at once I left a scout behind in all the caches that were big enough.tftc

This one throw us for six, the area must have changed so much since the cache was placed, we couldn't even tell where a crossing used to be never-mind the cache it would have been funny if we wernt searching high and low for the cache.
I had to have a bit for a rest and made time to eat and drink something while I sat on a log as others run round for a bit and search since I was not feeling at my best, all I can think is the tumble I took a while back is catching up with me.
After drinking lots of water and eating some food i started to feel normal again and dug through my bag to find a replacement which we hid in a location that is high and dry at the moment.

We spent quite a bit of time doing a few things here:
1. looking for the cache
2. looking for the crossing
3. attending to a few wounds
We didn't find:
1. the cache
2. the crossing
We sorted out the minor wounds as best we could, we placed a new cache in a sensible position but there was no chance of us rebuilding a crossing so we left that alone Shocked
We could see tyre tracks on the grass so assume there must be at least 4x4 access but we were on foot so that wasn't going to help us.
Sorry, no photos here

Got a bit lost trying to get to this one: we made the mistake of following the pink tape across the river. Followed the path on the eastern side for some way; encountered a tiger snake which blocked the path and took a while to get around as it didn’t seem to be scared of us. Eventually the snake moved on and so did we, but we ended up at a curious dead end at the river. It was called ‘Walter’s Crossing’ but that had us confused as there was no sign of a crossing at all. And the cache was on the other side!

So we retraced our steps looking for a suitable place to cross. Had to bush-bash down to the river and then take our shoes off and wade across, but we finally got to the clearing and the cache!

Found on our caravan and caching holiday to the North West coast finding caches that had been published since our last visit and this was one of them.

After finding the 2 Secluded Falls caches we continued on to find 5 of the newly published Dooleys Heritage Trail caches.

Our last cache for today and another quick find. We retraced our steps and the total time for the 7 caches took 5 1/2 hours.

Thanks sirius for an amazing and memorable days caching.

Having found "Dooleys Heritage Trail - Manfern Grove" we continued on downstream to look for this cache. The track was quite good (a little wet in places but that is fully expected in these weather conditions). There were a couple of spots where we had to be to very careful - getting over a large tree trunk which had fallen over the track some time ago (would be fine in the dry but a little more challenging in the wet) and some of the inclines and declines on the track were quite slippery.

We got to Walters Crossing about 20 minutes after leaving the previous cache. We were surprised to come into this relatively open and grassed area. Again, accurate coordinates and the hint led to a quick find. the cache and its contents were in good condition. Also we were able to claim another FTF at 10:30am. After replacing the cache, we went to look at the river which had a different manner as it went around this bend. Another magic spot on Dooley's Track. Thanks Sirius Tas for all your work with this series - another great cache in a wonderful area.
