Description

Shortest access is via the Groove Creek track...see maps and notes at.....billshep1.wordpress.com/

or you can continue on from the previous caches, depending on fitness.

All logs and debris have now been cleared all the way to Spellmans Bridge.

A huge thank you must go to Bill Shepherd and Max Richardson who have spent many years in track building and on going maintenance. When Bill isn't spending 2-3 days per week

on the Dooleys trail network he's out rebuilding a bridge or two and clearing tracks all over the district. Many thanks also to Chris Dennis and others from the NWWC who help make

these trails available to us all.

Also, could Geocachers please note any fallen logs or debris across the track in their cache log as an aid to keeping the trails maintained.

Any possible help in maintenance would be greatly appreciated as well, as these trails cover a large distance and maintained only with limited volunteers.

The cache is a regular black container with log book, small swaps and pencil.

Enjoy the walk!

Another stoopid idea to tackle more of the Trail today. Laughing Thoroughly enjoyed every bit of our walk today, my legs had other ideas though. This time downhill was as bad as uphill. Anyways, I battled on smacking fallen branches away from the track as best we could. We got as far as number 11 and called it a day and headed back for the grueling walk back up the mountain to the Ute. I tell you that last 100 metres is murder on the calf muscles!! Stabby

Sorry for generic copy and paste, too tired to think. Clan Cerberus

Found this whilst out and about with Trimbletas in search of GCA caches to get us on the board for the blitz games.
We decided to park at the groove creek carpark and walk from DHT #7 towards #15. there were numerous trees over the track and we never had a saw with us to clear them so we only cleared what we could, the track was very overgrown in places and after battling our way to #11 the decision was made that it was enough battling for today and we made our way back to the car.
on the way back i nearly walked straight on top of a tiger snake crossing the track, i did a good job to spot him before i would have stepped on him.

After using the hint to find the cache this was where we decided we had enough of battling around and over all the fallen trees, so we turned back here, will attempt the other remaining ones another time when we are more equip to deal with the trees. TFTC

Set out to do Dooleys Trail with Goose&Egg and Stainless steel rat, a beautiful area and worth a visit but not for the faint hearted if you do the entire trail at once I left a scout behind in all the caches that were big enough.tftc

This one was not far from the last and we were adding our names to the log in short order, we noticed here that we had been walking for 4 hours already and we were not half way along our chosen route yet. Well its onwards, upwards and downwards for a bit longer yet.

Found at 11:57

ok, my photo records suffer here so I a trying to remember this bit. We crossed another time creek. I can only imagine what it was like in the floods here, these little trickles would have been close to raging rivers (like the big one below). No trouble finding this one. Thanks sirius Tas, it's been a great journey so far.

This one was difficult to find, but saw no reason why it should be gone, so kept searching. Hint was accurate; cache was found in a not-so-obvious spot that required reaching up and over the rocks. We replaced it in the bottom crevice which is more obvious and easier to access.

8 caches attempted today and 2 DNF's this being the second one. Found the perfect hiding spot at the co-ords but despite a lot of probing were unable to find a cache. Then we unsuccessfully extended our search in both directions. Loved todays walk so having 2 DNF's means we get to come back another day and do it again. Going to wait until it is confirmed that the missing ones are actually there though. Thanks.

Found on our caravan and caching holiday to the North West coast, finding caches that had been published since our last vist and this was one of them.

Today we targetted 8 caches along this stretch of the trail. We parked at the car park for Secluded Falls and walked, skated and slid down the hill again. The first couple of caches were along relatively flat terrain and the track weaved beside the river. Evidence of recent track clearing was appreciated and today we noticed the ferns shooting new growth after the recent rain.

The terrain became steeper and challenging as we proceeded along the track engaging the mountain goat in us. 3 hours after we left the car park we arrived at Spellmans Crossing. Here we rested and had lunch ready for our return journey which saw us back at the car 6 hours after we left.

Thanks sirius for all the effort gone into placing these caches and clearing the track.

Have updated co-ords to those obtained by 2y'stassies as I was having a degree of difficulty in getting accurate co-ords at time of placement.
Many thanks 2y's...much appreciated.

Congrats to 2y'stassies on FTF...return walk from the Secluded Falls carpark definitely not for the feint hearted...well done.
Many thanks also for the help in keeping the trail clear of debris....very much appreciated.

After finding #10, we headed off up another steep section of the trail. Again, we had to be very careful of our footing as we worked our way round the side of the ravine. We could hear the roar of the river but the trees prevented us getting even a glimpse of the ravine and river below. However we could see the steepness of the ravine on the other side. It would take a mammoth effort to get from the river level to the top of the ravine on the other side. We had to be particularly careful where there had been a landside some time ago. The recent rain made the narrow track at that point rather soft and part of the outside of the track broke away as the heavier of the 2y'stassies walked along. Along the way we also came across two dead limbs which had fallen over the track. Although the limbs were 5+m long, it didn't take much to heave them down the bank and clear the track again. As we approached GZ we saw a location consistent with the hint but our GPS indicated that we still had 59m to get to GZ. Luckily we stopped and looked because the cache was found rather quickly. Again, the cache and it's contents were in good condition. Another FTF at 9:55am. Our two GPS units were being a little erratic in the ravine but we took a number of sets of coordinates, both on the way south and when returning north. To our surprise, they were quite consistent and averaged at S41 19.902 E146 10.791. As GPS reception in this area is so fickle we don't offer these coordinates as a possible update to the published coordinates but they may be useful to another cacher if they get to GZ with their GPS and cannot complete a find. Thanks Sirius Tas for another cache in a really great location.
