Description

Shortest access is via the Groove Creek track...see maps and notes at.....billshep1.wordpress.com/

or you can continue on from the previous caches, depending on fitness.

This cache is above Horseshoe Bend which can be seen from the trail.

All logs and debris have now been cleared all the way to Spellmans Bridge.

A huge thank you must go to Bill Shepherd and Max Richardson who have spent many years in track building and on going maintenance. When Bill isn't spending 2-3 days per week

on the Dooleys trail network he's out rebuilding a bridge or two and clearing tracks all over the district. Many thanks also to Chris Dennis and others from the NWWC who help make

these trails available to us all.

Also, could Geocachers please note any fallen logs or debris across the track in their cache log as an aid to keeping the trails maintained.

Any possible help in maintenance would be greatly appreciated as well, as these trails cover a large distance and maintained only with limited volunteers.

The cache is a regular black container with log book, small swaps and pencil.

Enjoy the walk!

Set out to do Dooleys Trail with Goose&Egg and Stainless steel rat, a beautiful area and worth a visit but not for the faint hearted if you do the entire trail at once I left a scout behind in all the caches that were big enough.tftc

This cache find was over powered by the path on the way to it but again it was more about the fun we had getting here than anything else.

This was where we come across the land slip, after read last logs and messaged from past finders I had packed a 30m rope, we must ahve used 25 of that by the time we had tied off, we didnt know if we would need it later so had to take it with us i'm sorry to say.

After setting up the rope we all made our way over and then recovered it without any drama. Its a bit steep and you have to have your whits about you but its all fun in the end.

Found at 11:30

we hit the landslip we had been warned about on the way to this one. We had been advised 10m of rope would be sufficient to get across but it has widened a lot since that party went through. We used most of Andys 30m rope so, allowing for tie off at each end, it was perhaps 25m.It was a little hair-raising at times but with good teamwork we were all across safely Clapping and went on to find the cache. While we logged the cache Cindie decided to wring her socks out as she was fed up with the squelching water between her toes.

Cache was found easily, but the steep ups and downs of the trail not so easy!

Probably the easiest find for the day but the hardest one to climb to. Having been up and down quite a few times by this stage the legs were starting to feel the pain. The river below looked very tempting and the dogs were ready for a water fix again too. Thanks.

Found on our caravan and caching holiday to the North West coast, finding caches that had been published since our last vist and this was one of them.

Today we targetted 8 caches along this stretch of the trail. We parked at the car park for Secluded Falls and walked, skated and slid down the hill again. The first couple of caches were along relatively flat terrain and the track weaved beside the river. Evidence of recent track clearing was appreciated and today we noticed the ferns shooting new growth after the recent rain.

The terrain became steeper and challenging as we proceeded along the track engaging the mountain goat in us. 3 hours after we left the car park we arrived at Spellmans Crossing. Here we rested and had lunch ready for our return journey which saw us back at the car 6 hours after we left.

Thanks sirius for all the effort gone into placing these caches and clearing the track.

Congrats to 2y'stassies on FTF...return walk from the Secluded Falls carpark definitely not for the feint hearted...well done.
Many thanks also for the help in keeping the trail clear of debris....very much appreciated.

Although the track distance between #12 and #13 was one of the shorter for today, walking to this cache from #12 took the longest because of the up and down terrain (some parts quite steep and slippery). Again we came across two limbs which had fallen over the track - thankfully they were of a size which enabled their easy removal. It was along this section that we had a lucky escape. Part of the track under Mr y'stassie gave way (another section of the track had become quite soft following recent rains) and he tumbled about 5m in light scrub. the only outcome was a very quick swelling on the forearm - thankfully no more serious problems. We eventually got to the area of GZ and, after entering through the pink tape gate guardians, we made a quick find - another FTF at 10:55am. The coordinates were spot-on. The cache and it's contents were in very good condition. Despite the little misadventure, we were really enjoying walking this section of the Dooley Heritage Trail. Thanks Sirius Tas.
