Description

Access is via the Groove Creek track...see maps and notes at.....billshep1.wordpress.com/

or you can continue on from the previous caches, depending on fitness or you can walk north from Spellmans Bridge crossing the river at Spellmans Crossing.

All logs and debris have now been cleared all the way to Spellmans Bridge.

A huge thank you must go to Bill Shepherd and Max Richardson who have spent many years in track building and on going maintenance. When Bill isn't spending 2-3 days per week

on the Dooleys trail network he's out rebuilding a bridge or two and clearing tracks all over the district. Many thanks also to Chris Dennis and others from the NWWC who help make

these trails available to us all.

Also, could Geocachers please note any fallen logs or debris across the track in their cache log as an aid to keeping the trails maintained.

Any possible help in maintenance would be greatly appreciated as well, as these trails cover a large distance and maintained only with limited volunteers.

The cache is a regular black container with log book, small swaps and pencil.

Enjoy the walk!

Set out to do Dooleys Trail with Goose&Egg and Stainless steel rat, a beautiful area and worth a visit but not for the faint hearted if you do the entire trail at once I left a scout behind in all the caches that were big enough.

The track now turned into more what I was used to with it snaking its way away from the river so we got to see the forest in its true glory all be it with the resulting up and down of the terrain, I think we all enjoyed the change to be honest even if we did do the old oh no not a hill bit.

Cache was found by team 'must be mad to do this' and we were soon moving on.

Found at 10:45

The track was a real track now but with it came hills and trees to torment us. We are still in good spirits and enjoying the perfect weather.
the attached pic of SSR was just taken just a few minutes before this find

Great walk under the manferns, accurate hint, no problem!

This one was the last one tackled today as we had already done the rest of the ones between here and Spellman's Bridge. It took a while and we found it in an obvious spot in the end although a little closer to the track and the fern than the clue suggested. We then continued to the river crossing where we sat on rocks in the water and had lunch before making the last cache free leg to our pick up ride at Spellmans. Thanks for a wonderful series Sirius. We now have the 2 caches at the Falls [which we probably should have tackled today] and 2 others on the track and we have attempted them all. Hopefully that will happen soon.

Found on our caravan and caching holiday to the North West coast, finding caches that had been published since our last vist and this was one of them.

Today we targetted 8 caches along this stretch of the trail. We parked at the car park for Secluded Falls and walked, skated and slid down the hill again. The first couple of caches were along relatively flat terrain and the track weaved beside the river. Evidence of recent track clearing was appreciated and today we noticed the ferns shooting new growth after the recent rain.

The terrain became steeper and challenging as we proceeded along the track engaging the mountain goat in us. 3 hours after we left the car park we arrived at Spellmans Crossing. Here we rested and had lunch ready for our return journey which saw us back at the car 6 hours after we left.

Thanks sirius for all the effort gone into placing these caches and clearing the track.

There was a rather steep (and slippery) descent from #13 to the river bank. We reached the river at a distinctive location (Horseshoe Bend??). The river was running quite swiftly on the eastern side but the western side was very calm. Then we noticed some bubbles, followed by a slight disturbance in the water. A large fish perhaps. Then it revealed itself, a larger than usual platypus poking around it's territory. It was oblivious of us and we remained still until it had move on and out of sight. Despite the wildlife show, we got to GZ in a little over 30 minutes. Again our GPS units were being quite erratic. Had it not been for the detailed hint, we may have missed this cache. We located the cache - another FTF at 11:30am. The cache and it's contents were in good condition. The vegetation in this part of the Wilmot River Valley is quite spectacular - large ferns and interesting trees are attractions. Again, thanks Sirius Tas for another cache in a wonderful area.
