Description

Small screwtop with bison tube and biro only.

Access can be via the caches along the trail from the north or starting from Spellmans Bridge and heading north along the eastern bank of the Wilmot.

If coming from previous caches to the north the river will need to be crossed and may not be possible in winter flows.

With almost all the caches now placed along the whole trail, a longish day walk can be had starting at either end and utilising a car shuffle.

This section north from Spellmans Bridge involves quite a lot of rock hopping and climbing over some difficult sections.

Please be extremely careful on the rocks if they are wet. If it looks WET and SLIPPERY then IT IS. A fall here could result in broken limbs.

As a general rule, stay off any flat surfaces if wet and stick to crevices and sharper surfaces.

If caching here alone, PLEASE follow normal bush walking protocols and if possible carry a PLB(personal locator beacon) which has been properly registered with AMSA.

The cache is a small black screwtop container with log inside a bison tube.

Please take care, but above all, enjoy the walk!

If crossing the Wilmot River, proceed to the rapids at S41 20.572 E146 10.270

Tackled the Dooley track today with TrimbleTAS. Very Much enjoyed this walk. We did this in two stages, starting at Spellmans bridge and walking as far as we could without crossing the river then turned back to the vehicle.
We then drove down to the end on River Rd off Swamp rd after reading that we could right down to the river level to continue the track from there to the north.
From Spellmans bridge we did a fair amount of rock hoping on very slippery rocks. there was a tree on the track back near #18 TRIMBLETAS got some coordinance for its position for track maintenance purposes.

This was a quick find after taking the hard way around the slippery section of rocks. TFTC

Tackled the Dooley track today with DEZ055. What an amazing walk. We did this in two stages, starting at Spellmans bridge and walking as far as we could before turning back to the vehicle and driving to the end on River Rd off Swamp rd to continue the track from there to the north.

Another quick find on the track. TFTC Clan Cerberus

Replaced cache...as evidence of minor landslips nearby.

Set out to do Dooleys Trail with Goose&Egg and Stainless steel rat, a beautiful area and worth a visit but not for the faint hearted if you do the entire trail at once I left a scout behind in all the caches that were big enough. Did this one just after our first river crossing, went up and down a bit looking for a likely spot to cross but in the end gave up and chose the least unlikely. tftc

On the whole it was still those darn sharp slippy rocks we had to worry about as we made our to this cache, we all took our time and watched our footing and before long we were finding the cache after adding our names to the log we moved on knowing that we had a river crossing coming up not far away.

Found at 09:28

Onward to the next one. Progress was slow as we had to scramble in parts. Last one before the river crossing....that took a lot of surveying before we chose our various paths.

Cache replaced on 18/1/17

Once again, we were relying mostly on the tape, so it took a little while to find (yellow tape almost non-existent!), but we got it. At one point we surprised a little wallaby who jumped into the river!

An easy find after a fair bit of rock hopping. Fortunately the rocks were quite safe today, only being slippery where the dog was in and out of the water cooling off. Thanks.

Had a lovely walk along one side of the river collecting 5 of this great series with Geo Kid A.

Found this cache after almost coming a cropper on the previous rocky outcrop

Congrats to Tassie Trekkers for FTF and for completing the series so far along with 2y'stassies....great effort by both geocachers.

The walk from #17 to #16 was, in parts, the most demanding. At times, walking was easy on a well formed track through the trees on the river bank. At other times we found the rock clambering quite demanding with narrow footholds at the waters edge. On one occasion one of us slipped down a metre or two towards the river but a hand hold was available to limit the descent. It took us 30 minutes to get from #17 to #16 with rock clambering taking about 25 minutes of the time. We were relieved when we got to GZ where accurate coordinates and the hint led to a quick find. the cache and it's contents were in good condition.

In all it had taken just over 90 minutes to get from Spellmans Bridge to #16. Good progress was made on some sections but, for us, the rock clambering in various places was demanding and slow. The positive outcome was that our rock clambering skills, especially in slippery areas, have improved. It then took us a little over an hour to retrace our steps. The total walk today took about 2 and three quarter hours.

We have mentioned it in other logs, but we never tire of the views in this wonderful river valley. There is just so much variety and great scenery. The river has so many moods and the flora and fauna are varied and very interesting.

Thanks Sirius Tas for all you have done to get this series in place. The placement of the caches has been a major undertaking but the track work you and others have undertaken to make the area accessible to all has been amazing and very much appreciated.

We have now found all the caches that Sirius Tas has placed in the Wilmot River Valley. We do, however, have a sneaking suspicion that, in time, some more caches may be placed along Dooleys Heritage Trail and possibly on the eastern side of the river too. We will be back.

Found on our caravan and caching holiday to the North West coast, finding caches that had been published since our last vist and this was one of them.

After finding caches #8 - #15 on Dooleys Heritage Trail we drove to Spellmans Bridge to check out the caches from this end.

The rocks were dry in most places as we ventured along the marked track we managed to travese this section a lot quicker than the above caches. *FTF* @ 16.55 TFTC
