Description

Access can be via the caches along the trail from the north or starting from Spellmans Bridge and heading north along the eastern bank of the Wilmot.

If coming from previous caches to the north the river will need to be crossed and may not be possible in winter flows.

With almost all the caches now placed along the whole trail, a longish day walk can be had starting at either end and utilising a car shuffle.

This section north from Spellmans Bridge involves quite a lot of rock hopping and climbing over some difficult sections.

Please be extremely careful on the rocks if they are wet. If it looks WET and SLIPPERY then iIT IS. A fall here could result in broken limbs.

As a general rule, stay off any flat surfaces if wet and stick to crevices and sharper surfaces.

If caching here alone, PLEASE follow normal bush walking protocols and if possible carry a PLB(personal locator beacon) which has been properly registered with AMSA.

The cache is a small black sistema container with log book, biro, small swaps.

Please take care, but above all, enjoy the walk!

Tackled the Dooley track today with TrimbleTAS. Very Much enjoyed this walk. We did this in two stages, starting at Spellmans bridge and walking as far as we could without crossing the river then turned back to the vehicle.
We then drove down to the end on River Rd off Swamp rd after reading that we could right down to the river level to continue the track from there to the north.
From Spellmans bridge we did a fair amount of rock hoping on very slippery rocks. there was a tree on the track back near #18 TRIMBLETAS got some coordinance for its position for track maintenance purposes.

This one was a good test of the boots as the rocks to climb to this one were very slippery TFTC

Tackled the Dooley track today with DEZ055. What an amazing walk. We did this in two stages, starting at Spellmans bridge and walking as far as we could before turning back to the vehicle and driving to the end on River Rd off Swamp rd to continue the track from there to the north.

Another quick find on the track. TFTC Clan Cerberus

Set out to do Dooleys Trail with Goose&Egg and Stainless steel rat, a beautiful area and worth a visit but not for the faint hearted if you do the entire trail at once I left a scout behind in all the caches that were big enough. tftc

Amazed to see that the CO had made it this far and replaced another cache that had been washed away last winter, Mr Tazscout found this one and before long we were on our way again.

Found at 09:03

Another quick find by Paul here, he was certainly on the money today. We are an hour into it by this stage and enjoying the challenge and of course the scenery.

Continued our walk along the river. The water level was very low so it was easy walking along the exposed rocks. Cache found after a bit of a search.

(Our GPS was a bit messed up from being overseas, so the first few caches were about 25m out, which made things extra difficult!!)

The walk from #18 to #17 involved the longest stretch of rock clambering. Most of the rock hopping was not straightforward and there were a couple of sections that were quite slippery. The river level assisted as it was quite low and it exposed good rough rocks near the river bank which made walking a little easier in places. Again we were quite slow, taking 25 minutes to get to #17 after leaving #18 even though it was only a relatively short distance.

Once near GZ, accurate coordinates and the hint led to a quick find. The cache and it's contents were in good condition. Despite the difficulties negotiating the rocks, we were really enjoying the environment. Thanks Sirius Tas. More photos have been added to the Gallery.

Found on our caravan and caching holiday to the North West coast, finding caches that had been published since our last vist and this was one of them.

After finding caches #8 - #15 on Dooleys Heritage Trail we drove to Spellmans Bridge to check out the caches from this end.

The rocks were dry in most places as we ventured along the marked track we managed to travese this section a lot quicker than the above caches. *FTF* @ 16.45 TFTC
