Description

Access can be via the caches along the trail from the north or starting from Spellmans Bridge and heading north along the eastern bank of the Wilmot.

If coming from previous caches to the north the river will need to be crossed and may not be possible in winter flows.

With almost all the caches now placed along the whole trail, a longish day walk can be had starting at either end and utilising a car shuffle.

This section north from Spellmans Bridge involves quite a lot of rock hopping and climbing over some difficult sections.

Please be extremely careful on the rocks if they are wet. If it looks WET and SLIPPERY then iIT IS. A fall here could result in broken limbs.

As a general rule, stay off any flat surfaces if wet and stick to crevices and sharper surfaces.

If caching here alone, PLEASE follow normal bush walking protocols and if possible carry a PLB(personal locator beacon) which has been properly registered with AMSA.

The cache is a small black sistema container with logbook, biro, small swaps.

Please take care, but above all, enjoy the walk!

Tackled the Dooley track today with TrimbleTAS. Very Much enjoyed this walk. We did this in two stages, starting at Spellmans bridge and walking as far as we could without crossing the river then turned back to the vehicle.
We then drove down to the end on River Rd off Swamp rd after reading that we could right down to the river level to continue the track from there to the north.
From Spellmans bridge we did a fair amount of rock hoping on very slippery rocks. there was a tree on the track back near #18 TRIMBLETAS got some coordinance for its position for track maintenance purposes.

A quick find after negotiating the tree back up the track, this cache was full of water so we drained it out, the logbook was dry in its double bags. TFTC

Tackled the Dooley track today with DEZ055. What an amazing walk. We did this in two stages, starting at Spellmans bridge and walking as far as we could before turning back to the vehicle and driving to the end on River Rd off Swamp rd to continue the track from there to the north.

Another quick find on the track. TFTC Clan Cerberus

Set out to do Dooleys Trail with Goose&Egg and Stainless steel rat, a beautiful area and worth a visit but not for the faint hearted if you do the entire trail at once I left a scout behind in all the caches that were big enough. tftc

Yet more interesting paths to be discovered as we made our way to this cache, with 5 of use searching we soon had this cache found and returned to it hiding spot.

This one we searched for for quite some time without success, and were unsure whether we should have taken the high road. Eventually we moved on to be sure we were on the right track (we were), but came back later in the day after grabbing the other caches, and had another go. Searched for another 20 mins and still nothing. We determined that this had to be the right spot, so persisted, and after some final, desperate digging, uncovered the cache. It was really deeply buried in the dirt. Massively relieved to find it! We replaced the cache with a largish rock in front to make it easier for the next finders.

Hi Sirius
From #19 to #18 and really enjoying myself. Then I looked skyward as it seemed to have darkened as I was walking. Dark, ominous clouds had come across and it looked like it was going to pour down.
Got to GZ, finding the cache and Sainting it at 1042hrs.
Loaded the next cache in the GPS and got to the river. The rocks looked slippery and it was getting darker. If it rained, the river would rise even more - had not prepared properly for this walk, no coat etc. Discretion became the best part of valour and I turned around and decided not to take the risk of being a weather statistic. Returned to the car to fight another day.
As it turned out, no rain at all in the areas I visited...maybe....no maybes - better to be safe than sorry!
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.

Having found #19, we continued down river towards this cache. The track alternated between clambering over rocks on the river bank and a good trail through the trees and shrubs on the edge of the river. The rocks were quite slippery in places and at times, we were rather slow. However slow and safe is much better than fast and injured.

Fifteen minutes after leaving #19 we found this cache. Again good coordinates and the hint led to a quick find. the cache and its contents were in good condition.

We enjoyed the views along this section of the river - very different to other parts of the Wilmot River valley. Again, thanks Sirius Tas for this great caching experience. More photos have been added to the Gallery.

Found on our caravan and caching holiday to the North West coast, finding caches that had been published since our last vist and this was one of them.

After finding caches #8 - #15 on Dooleys Heritage Trail we drove to Spellmans Bridge to check out the caches from this end.

The rocks were dry in most places as we ventured along the marked track we managed to travese this section a lot quicker than the above caches. *FTF* @ 16.40 TFTC
