Description

Wungong (pronounced "Woongong")

Wungong Dam was built on the Wungong Brook in the mid-late 1970's to augment the water supply for a growing population. Wungong Brook has its source in the vicinity of the junction of Jarrahdale Road and Albany Highway. It drops about 260 metres over the approximately 35 km route, via Wungong Dam, Wungong Gorge and the Wungong Township to its confluence with Southern River, not far from the Champion Lakes Recreational Reserve (aka Armadale Beach).

The Cache

Should be an easy grab. No need to enter any prohibited areas.

The cache was placed on a hot November day and CO resisted the temptation to descend the wall and have a swim in the deep blue water that looked so inviting.

Removing maintenance flag for now. It was found 3 months ago. Waiting for another DNF or previous finder check.

I finally found the time to head up here to look for this cache. Alas - after a longish search using mirrors to help, I must log a DNF.

I thought that I'd found this cache but it still appears on my list. Went looking today, but the road in is closed (for maintenance). I may try the Admiral Rd entrance sometime in the near future but IIRC, it is quite a walk for old legs. Crying or Very sad .

Added a hint. I didn't want it it to be difficult to find.

After completing the nearby Boulderdash series I drove down to this carpark and walked across to look for the cache. It was raining relatively heavily at this time, and quite windy. I have ridden my bike across this dam wall a few times as part of the Dams challenge, which is on again next weekend.

A quick find he says... always a recipe for disaster for me, especially if there is more than one possible hiding spot, and here I was faced with at least 100 places to hide a nano. As expected, it took me a while to find the cache, and I must have put my hand on it a couple of times before I found it, each time moving on to the other 50 options before coming back again to start from the beginning.

Thanks for the cache firnsy!

Thanks for bringing me back here again. I tried getting here from Albany Highway down Springfield road but the gates are locked, so had to backtrack around through another road and got there shortly after. I imagine these gates are permanently locked.

I snuck my car up to where the barriers are and walked out. no one else here today, the place was deserted.
You said it should be an easy grab. Funnily enough i used my gps due to lack of phone coverage. When in the gz area the very first place i explored i put my hand straight onto the cache. Could not believe it. So for me it was a very quick easy grab. Felt very happy for my immediate find. DancingDancing

Thank again Firnsy...shame the dams are very low tho. ClappingClapping

First cache for the day, had to look around a little bit but eventually came up with the goods. The last time I was here there was gate and you could walk around the control station. Thanks for the cache.

I hate when you say "should be a quick grab" it puts so much pressure on me when I'm still looking for it 10 minutes later. Missed it on my first sweep and yeah I guess it should have been a quick grab.

Noticed this morning that this one still hadnt been found, so took a quick drive up the hill to this beautiful peaceful spot. Coords were about 7m out for me, not much considering the interferences from the water and rocks.
Had a chat to an old fella who was walking by, about 70 i guess, says he walks 30km a day, used to walk 50km but doesnt manage it anymore...and here i was walking to my car!!! Rolling Eyes
