Description
Just because this is a lovely little spot to visit with a rich history....
Just because I was in the area....
Just because I happened to have a ready to go cache in the car......
And well, Just because..................
This is a good size container with swaps, logbook and pen, the track is easy to wander along and well worth the visit. The coordinate are a couple of meters out due to the trees when I was setting it but should be ok apart from that. If you are very lucky you might even get some snow! we did :)

A day trip up to the Lakes to find (and refind) some caches, a great day out, some easy and some harder finds.
Straight after parkrun this morning i meet gooseandegg at our normal coffee shop and after a few minutes chat the goose loaded his gear in the 4WD and we were off heading North for the day.
We almost made it to our futhest target cache without stopping but called for some GCA caches along the way, after grabbing some stunning views from a new budgie cache we headed to the last one and started on our drive back after a short detour.
The cache of the day was a out of the blue surprise showing me a location i had no idea of and a feature i didnt know existed in Tasmainia or Australia.
It was dark and 9:40 before I got home, almost 11 hours and 460km made for a good caching trip.

Beautiful walk from the sculptures. A wallaby was bounding down the trail to me but darted into the scrub when it saw me.
I stopped to visit and learn about the history of the homestead as well as finding caches and "Just Because" this cache was here I ended up continuing the walk to the sculptures which was an additional bonus. Thank you TazScout.

Out and about with the Rafas caching, A day that had it all Rain Hail Snow and Shine all four seasons in one day. It was cold enough to lower the temp. of the motor while going up to Bothwell and warm enough driving from Perth to home to put us all to sleep. a great day caching on an old road thats worth traveling on. lots of GCA caches to find, TFTC TNLN log dry.

Thank you for the cache TazScout.
A couple of weeks ago, RLD4963 and I were returning back to Hobart from Burnie along the Highland Lakes road and I mentioned that there were heaps of GCA caches along the road. At the time we didn't stop to look for any as we needed to get back home to pick up the GeoGSP from his doggy pet resort.
When the Blitz game was published, we decided that a drive along this road would certainly be helpful for us, so we picked a day and off we went - this time we had the GeoGSP with us. The weather wasn't terrible, we certainly had lots of blue sky, but also a few periods of overcast weather, and even a few short periods of light snow, and the occasional shower - but it was never cold, so all in all, we had a great day as we made our way, looking from caches between the Melton Mowbray turnoff and Deloraine. It was a big day, leaving at 7am in the morning and turning back in to the driveway 12 hours later, but we had heaps of stops and breaks to have a bite to eat, we even found a dog park in Deloraine for the GeoGSP to really get out and stretch his legs after sitting in the car.
Thanks for publishing and placing this cache, hasn't been logged for a while. The GeoGSP stayed in the car whilst we looked for this one. I have driven past this spot so many times, and so it's great to have a reason to stop, get out of the car, have a look around, ready some history, and think about how hard it would have been to live in this environment. We initially missed the hiding spot, got distracted by something bigger and then had a closer look at the initial area and there it was, all safe and sound.
A nice quick find with RLD4963.

Have been sorting through all the various dz trophy points and found that I need to add two more zones to my dz list and selected two available GA caches which fitted the bill. As I had another specialist appointment today in Launnie, a plan was hatched to head up through the Great Lakes road then down the Interlaken road through to Tunbridge then onto Launceston. So as long as the published caches were still available or more importantly found, then the dz requirements should be met.The weather forecast for today was for a sunny day but with severe frosts and some snow likely up in the highlands.Set off at 8.30 am so as not to be too early encountering the frosty areas.Murder(the younger of the canine family who loves a drive) was as keen as, so took up his regular back seat position keeping a keen eye on anything that goes past. My elderly(16.5 yo) canine companion Sirius, stays at home these days keeping his old bones warm in front of the wood heater....after all, he is 102 y.o. in human years, so has definitely earnt the privilege.Approaching the upper sections of the Great Lakes the frost and snow were soon apparent with very icy conditions, just so glad to be in a 4wd. On the plateau the snow had settled to be around 0.3m deep...a beautiful landscape indeed. Finally made it to the Steppes, parking in front of the old homestead. Wasn't sure where I was going but saw the start of the track to the sculptures(never knew it was there) and followed that until reaching gz. The excellent hide was covered in snow but the cache and contents were in great condition.Just wish I had more time to spare to look around the buildings but with a tight schedule I had to move on.I'll be back at a later date with more time.An awesome winters day up heretoday... just picture perfect. Many thanks TazScouts for placing and maintaining the cache for all our enjoyment....just what geocaching is all about....very much appreciated. Now to head further east for the next find...cheers ST

Went straight past this one and then when we finally got phone reception we realised we had passed a GCA cache. Headed back and so glad we did as this is such an interesting area steeped in history that we didn't realise was accessible to the public now.
After a short flat walk we were at GZ where the cache was quickly located.
Thanks.

Travelling around Australia and spending a few months in Tasmania.
We have been volunteering our 'talents' at Bronte Park this week and dashing out each day to find 1 cache as there has been much to do. Today we actually had decided to take the day off to visit Waddamana and return for 'work' this evening.
After visiting the nearby artwork a not so quick find of the cache was made by Mr Felix today.

For once we were driving home from this general area with plenty of time to spare, so we could just take it slowly, learn a bit of history, stop and find caches and admire the surrounds along the way. We had no idea this day use area was here and are just sorry that you are not allowed to stay in a van overnight so as to fully enjoy the area and picnic facilities. TFTC
Just because... I was on a working bee at the Steppes today and this cache beckoned at lunch time (who needs an extra sandwich when there is a cache to find). Container was located quickly and log signed. Thanks TazScout.
A nice walk Just Because ... there is a cache here. Thanks for placing, an interesting place. TN left pathtag.

Just because you want to make people walk, instead of drivebys.
Walked in from the sculptures and all the way to the homestead.
Found quickly even with poor GPS coverage (read iPhone).
TNLN, thanks for the cache!

Just beacause you like making me walk I feel. Nice walk but weather was closing in, so was concerned that a run back to the car might be in order. All good in the end
Decided to do a tour of the Lakes area and see how many caches we could find on a winter day. This one was a quick find when we reached GZ. Love this area. Thanks for giving us a reason to stop and wander about.
We were travelling the Lake Highway today trying to find caches that were published while we were in New South wales. We have visited the sculptures on two previous occasions but today we discovered that a new track has been opened up. We used this track to walk to GZ where very good coordinates led to a relatively quick find of a very well hidden cache. The cache and contents were in good condition. We loved the "peg scout" but left it for a young cacher. Thanks TazScout for a very well hidden cache in a great area.
Hi TazScout
I really enjoyed this cache.
Walked to it from the Steppes Sculptures and then walked on to the Steppes Homestead. I've often passed by this home not realising what it was/is. Enjoyed walking around the old place.
Members of the HBWC were there for a Search and Rescue exercise, but the weather was too inclement and it was put off - you would think that it should have continued as this type of weather is when most bush accidents and 'lost people' need to be found - good practise one would think?
Found, logged and replaced the cache at 0923hrs.
Gets a favourite from me.
Thanks for taking me here and for the *FTF*
TFTC and cheers
