Description

A BIT OF LOCAL HISTORY

This place was found while searching for other nearby caches. it has been hidden by overgrown trees.

It obviously was once a big swimming pool for the town of Derby when it was a big tin mining place. The pool was part of the Ringaroome river which now takes a different course.

The cache is a fim cannister with log only.

There are two other caches not far from here, both well worth the effort.

This Morning whilst travelling past this cache for work up the road i called in to put a replacement log in this cache.

Today I had to go to winnaleah go fix a customers tractor, luckily everything went smoothly and I had extra time up my sleeve so as I wasn’t far from pioneer I decided to grab a few caches befor I headed back to work. Then on my way back through derby I noticed this cache showed up on my gps so I called in to grab it, sorry I didn’t have a chance to read previous logs or I would of brought a spare log for the cache and I didn’t have anything in my ute that I could have used either. The log was wet but i was still able to sign my name.
I was short on time so I didn’t have time to dry it out.
I will keep an eye on the logs for this one and the next time I’m in the area I’ll bring a replacement log for this one. Very HappyClan Cerberus

Log was soaked when I dropped by today. Sadly, I didn't have a spare with me to replace it Sad

#GA4098 - 08:35; I wasn't planning a caching day today, but with double dZ points on offer, I decided to get out nice and early for a quick trip and collect some of the newer caches around the north east, which have appeared since my last visit in some places I'd never been, or had not visited for many years. Collected a couple of GC caches in Branxholm before heading out to the Mt Paris Dam then on to Derby for this cache. Grabbed a coffee on my way through the town and then parked the geomobile up the hill and wandered down to give this cache a try. Another one I made harder than it needed to be, as I found it right back in the first place I had looked, but hadn't seen it, after some further unnecessary hunting Brick Wall This has been on the radar for some time, so pleased to finally make the find today. Random place for a pool. But still cool nonetheless

The diving board is certainly gone, hard to believe that it was once a pool but a great bit of urban history.

Passing through the area yesterday, and signed the log on this one. Was actually there when it was hidden. Introduced some MB muggles to GC'ing.

Fascinating spot Very Happy

The weather forecast for today looked pretty rosy, so decided to head to the far north east to round up some caches.

Usually I have my old canine buddy Sirius with me but sadly his age now precludes him from doing any more bushwalks and mountain climbs, but as soon as I had put my hat and boots on, Murder(the younger of the two canine family....4 yo) started to get pretty excited as he just loves both bush walking and travelling around in the geo fourby.

My eldest canine...Sirius...is now too old(16.10 y.o. or 103 in human yrs) to leave the comfort of his bed in front of the wood heater...which has an electric blanket of course(which he just loves and is great for his arthritis). Having walked 100's of km's with me geocaching over the years up numerous mountains, bush walking along many trails plus along vast stretches of beaches etc while geocaching, he has certainly earned his rest..an amazing companion who never gave up no matter how hard it got for him...a truly remarkeable and treasured companion.

Set off around 0640 with the road traffic being fairly quiet. After 2.5 hrs or so, we arrived at our first cache destination at Derby which was awash with mountain bikers.

Thankfully, where the cache "Derby Diving" was hidden it was all quiet away from the muggles.Found the cache with accurate coords but the log was all soggy, so replaced with a new one in a new ziploc.

Looks like it would have been an awesome spot once apon a time for the Derby youngsters in the middle of summer.

Many thanks for the cache robtas in a top location....cheers ST.

Sunday dawned with another stunning sunny start and our party grew. TazScout joined us today so now we had a group of seven (4 caching groups) and three vehicles. This was our first GCA stop for the day. We enjoyed exploring the area but were very conscious of time so after finding the cache and inspecting the 'pool' we had a quick look at the river and headed off to the next cache. Thanks Robtas

While on a trip to the northeast we got together with myself Mrs SSR GooseandEgg 1Tollman and Tazscout to grab a few cache and this was one of them we found today, toolman found this one in no time and we soon added our names to the log thanks for the cache.

Another cache led discovery. We've driven past here many times totally unaware of what lurked in the bush. Now we know. Signed log then went for a litle paddle. All good at GZ.

Travelling around Australia and now in Tasmania! So exciting. The weather has been kind to us so far.

Today we moved from Scottsdale to Derby! Then set off finding some local caches.

We found your cache in good condition but no swimming for us today. Although we did see a lady coming back from swimming in the river Laughing

Thanks robtas. Clapping

Found on the way home from a night of camping and unsuccessful fishing at the Frome Dam. Noticed this "swimming Hole" a while back when we found Gills Of The Trout. Would've been a fun spot in it's day. Accurate coordinates led to a quick find. TFTC

Hi robtas
A very quick find after finding the trout.
Glad the diving board isn't there any more as the landing today would not be as soft as it once was!
Sainted the cache at 1406hrs.
TFTC and cheers

The hint and corrected coordinates made this a quick find. The cache and contents were in good condition. Although the area is now somewhat overgrown, it certainly would have been a lovely and popular spot in summers of past. Thanks for the cache Robtas.

A well deserved FTF!!
After spending 45 minutes hacking through the scrub up and down the hill trying to achieve ground zero (with both Magellan and Garmin GPS going) we finally decided the coords were out and went to where the hint said..... A quick easy find THEN! Rolling EyesBrick Wall
