Description

To log this locationless cache, you will need to complete this very addicting and frustrating online strategy game called 2048.

What you need to do is slide the tiles up, down, left and right to connect the tiles with the same number so they double. Keep on doing this until you reach the 2048 tile. Once you have completed it, post a photo of your GPSr in front of the screen and post it in your log. Coordinates are not required.

Happy caching!

I was mildly obsessed with this game a few years back and every now and then I come back to it for some reason. Thanks (sort of) for the the reason this time around. Luckily, unlike some of my previous bouts of obsession it only took me two days and half a dozen tries to get the required result.
It usually takes months.
Oh and I used all four buttons.

Out of my (about) 200 ties (maybe more/less) over the years, this game, happens to be my second ever time I have gotten the 2048 score come up. My first time was for another cache and the 2048 score was a code word which you needed to use to get the GZ coordinates. This time I used the link on the page description. After a few attempts over the past few days, I received the, 'You Win' message. Photo attached. Very Happy TFTLC Very Happy

Now I can see why people say “Finally!” when logging this cache.
Such an innocuous little puzzle, but how frustrating.
I saw this one day about three months ago and gave it a try, and again every day since then.
Last week I showed it to my grandson who is a bit of a maths wizard, and he had it solved in half an hour.
He gave me a very useful tip, and since then each day I’ve been getting closer to the score required.
Finally I can claim this tricky little devil.
Thanks for this Locationless Ryan00,

Was stoked to find your locationless for 2048. Have been an avid player of this game for some time, it is quite relaxing for me. Realised I had a game going past 4096 per the attached photo. I play to the bottom left, although of course the game can be played to any corner.
Thanks for highlighting this fun game Ryan00!
Cheers

Saw this cache and thought how hard could it be. Never had played the game before.... it consumed me. But I got it and I squeaked a little bit and made sure to take a photo. Thanks for the addiction

I used to play this a lot a couple of years ago. So to see that this was a locationless. Needless to say I remembered all my old tactics to go all out and complete this locationless on my first try. Anyways thanks for the cache.

With geocaching.com and geocaching.com.au caches added this will be my 500th cache Very Happy

There is a cache at http://coord.info/GC5CHX3 which also features this game, but the puzzle link has broken so I went looking for other 2048 options Razz I've beaten the game a few times now, but this is the first time at the URL given. Will look at what other 'locationless' caches are listed on this site. Cheers all!

I used to play this game when it first came out but found it meaningless. Then more recently I discovered the city version where instead of the numbers rising, the buildings do. Now that was fun! I felt life I was building my own little world. I have a habit of deleting games off my phone as soon as I conquer them or they get addictive because I don't want to waste my life staring at a phone. Its not very outdoors-y.

Anyhow, I saw this locationless last night so downloaded the game, conquered it, then removed it again. Wasn't sure how to take a photo of my phone and GPS with my phone so just did a screenshot.

Thanks for the challenge. Smile

In our house we play the Pokemon version which also offers beyond the 4x4, 5x5 and 6x6. As it's played on my phone a screen shot is what I can offer.

I've been playing on and off for the last three days and had given up. Here is my achievement from 13 March 2014 which I believe is the first time I managed to do it.

#GA479 - 21:00; Eureka!!!! I first encountered this tricky little game when I needed to solve it for GC5CHX3 'Twenty-Forty-CACHE' by Cankid. Different symbols, but the same principles. Having completed the GC challenge, I thought I would find this one much easier. Not so! It took a while, but I finally got there tonight, so now I can get away from the computer and back outside on the trails Clapping TFTC Ryan00 Dancing

We can finally stop playing this game.
Mrs Shifter was taking a break from setting a Year 11 test and decided to have a go, she managed to achieve the 2048 on about the third game of the evening.

For the past few months, I have seen my friends at school playing 2048 and I was always interested in playing. With the publication of this, I finally had a reason to do so. Once this was published, I immediately got to work. Every night, I (accidentally) stayed up later than usual trying to get the 2048 tile. I was always so close and so involved that once I failed, I had the motivation to continue. For the past few weeks, I kept getting closer to 2048, but I kept failing. Finally, after many days, I managed to get the tile - I was so happy that this addiction was finally destroyed. Such a fantastic game and I am glad that this cache has influenced the caching community to play it.

This game has been driving us crazy since the cache was first published. Initially we tried to play it on our PC but our psychomotor skills let us down at critical moments when the wrong arrow was pressed and the carefully forming arrangement of tiles was destroyed. We then downloaded the app onto our mobile phone and it was much better as we could watch our finger moving the tiles on the screen rather than looking at a PC screen with the keyboard out of sight. Many days of attempts brought skill improvements but no joy. Today we went to Hobart for an appointment and, limited by the charge in the phone battery, we played the game a few times. At one stage we got very close but . . . Doh!!! Brick Wall After getting home and with the phone on charge, a few more attempts were made and after about half an hour !!Eureka!! Laughing Laughing Now the really addictive game can be removed from our phone, the washing up can be done at a sensible time, the lawns can get mowed, that cars can be washed and the cat can be the centre of attention again. We are not sure that we should thank you Ryan00 for publishing this cache but we can certainly thank you that the challenge can be achieved and now we can get back to some form or normality. The required photo has been added to the Gallery.

I agree, totally addictive.
When this first popped up as a cache my offsider at work took an interest. He's a keen strategy gamer and solved in just a few games.
I took many, many more games until the numbers aligned Brick Wall

Thank you Ryan00 for a challenging puzzle.

Well talk about addictive torture.

Then bingo I got lucky.

Now I don't have to play it again. Razz
