This interesting statue; "Spirit of the Sea" is a statue situated in Devonport at the mouth of the Mersey River, installed in 2010.
There is a parking nearby and the Devonport Shared Foreshore Pathway, that goes right up to the bluff lighthouse.

Extended our caching stroll to this BIG concrete edifice (which I believe if you look carefully there may be an incongruous statue perched on top). Anyway we have arrived. I do ride past here most mornings about 7am and try to ignore this "landmark" supposed tourist attraction by looking up river instead. Thanks Ryan00 for the cache in a good location.
A quick visit before boarding the Spirit on our way to the mainland for a road trip. TFTC!

I saw this a couple of times while staying in the Devonport area at the start of our lap of Tasmania, but didn't take a photo until we got back to town to board the Spirit of Tasmania.
Found this guy out on the rocks, i thought it was like King Triton or something haha

After our fish and chips dinner we decided to have an evening stroll and came to the viewing platform to see what we could see. As it was dusk I quickly grabbed the photo of me and the very manly sculpture before the light faded and then spent time throwing rocks and finding shells on the shore below. Thanks Ryan00.
We sailed right past this on the Spirit of Tasmania heading back to Melbourne

This is a popular spot for land based fishing, more so during the Summer.

We had a couple of hours to kill before boarding the boat back home to Melbourne so we headed for a look around Devonport. We came out here for a look but the kids were more interested in finding crabs in the rocks on the nearby beach.
Thanks Ryan00 for the cache.

Last one of the day! Had to run up to sculpture as phone was nearly flat and I needed to take photo with it. Just got photo taken and it charged down - whew- that was close! Day of caching is over as phone is flat.
Parked nearby then wandered up to GZ just as a couple of young blokes jumped over the fence to go fishing !
Cool sculpture in a nice spot - thanks for the cache, Ryan00 !

Been here a number of times. Certainly an interesting monument to greet people arriving as tourists on the spirit of tasmania.
This installation certainly caused a stir in Devonport in 2009 and 2010. The majority of those who believe they appreciated art said that "it wasn't art", a small number thought it would be a good tourist attraction and the majority were somewhat bemused as a local service club pushed on relentlessly to acquire the statue from a then resident sculptor. Eventually the "Spirit of the Sea" (known locally and widely as "Dro Mymu Yx Dro Bymu" [needs deciphering]) was erected. Tourist buses are not frequent callers but Devonport City Council staff are frequent visitors as they clean the statue from the comments made by silver gulls and corrosion from the salt laden spray. Public art is expected to generate controversy and this installation is no exception. Similar controversy was generated with the installation of "The Red Peril" which, after being moved a number of times, has finally settled on the foreshore reserve closer to The Bluff. Photos of our visit to the "Spirit Of The Sea" are included in the Gallery.
Had some time to spare while the van was getting a wheel alignment so walked along the river to grab this cache. Thanks.
