Logs

This geocache appears to be MIA so to stop it clogging the search lists we'll archive it. This is done to keep the Geocaching Australia clean and up to date.
If the owner can confirm it is in place the listing can be resurrected by placing an "unarchived" log against it.

Unfortunately, this cache looks like maintenance maybe required.

To ensure future finders have an enjoyable experience in both finding the cache and visiting the area, a check on this cache is recommended.

If the cache still seems to require maintenance within 28 days, Geocaching Australia will archive the cache to stop it appearing on cachers lists / PQ's.

Out caching with ziggiau raiding Rookwood and Homebush for States of the Nation points. Ths was find 2 of 11 for the day.
Another interesting piece of history here. This one was a sneaky hide as we were looking for something taller but it is no longer, although the cache is still well hidden and in good condition.
Thanks for another interesting multi tronador.

Thanks to Nessel for giving me a shove to get out and find some GCA caches today. Another of my redemption caches for last summer’s game. The thing that the hint eluded to is now much shorter than when the cache was originally placed which tricked us a little. Thanks Tronador.

2nd of the four multi caches in this cemetery tackled today. Walked around the cemetery and then covering the bushes & fields caches nearby with phlphotos today. Interesting noting the many styles of head stones used and the history that can be uncovered when reading through them.

Nice to find the prize not too far away from wp1

I've had a lurgy all week so a nice easy walk was in order to get back into the swing again.
Soon found the one I was after & got the info. There seem to be a lot of Scots buried in this area. Thanks again for bringing me to such a nice bit of the graveyard.

I was going to claim this needed maintenance as GZ had much clearing under trees, when I got home & checked co-ordinates in checker I soon found I stuffed up SurprisedShockedEmbarassed & worked on where I went wrong. Soddenly the penny dropped & correct location worked out DohSmile . So, came again before work & went straight for GZ. Suddenly I had this sinking feeling Rolling EyesAnxiousSick – a tree had been cut down & the stump left. The saw dust was all around the place. Had a good scratch around & found a nicely hidden undisturbed cache Very HappyVery HappySmile – signed & replaced.
I liked this cache – thanks for the history lesson of this person.

This part of the cemetery is amazing! They don't make things like they used to do they. I'm not sure it its the detail on the headstones, the extravagant family vaults or the shaped paths that struck Me the most. The paths I think.

Thanks for highlighting a few intersecting places here. Loved it! Smile

Ah-ha! Thanks for the cache check. When there was a whole lot of leaf litter everywhere and no sign of the hint, I felt rather conspicuous digging around all over the place. Now the hint is quickly noticed, it's all a lot better.

Thanks for this little gem

Cache check. Still there. I've reworded the info. you need to find, as maybe this was confusing you. I've replaced the letters AB with **, you are looking for a 2 digit number. CD is replaced with ## again a 2 digit number. You just have to substitute the number into the given coords.
I tested the whole cache again and the final coords took me straight to GZ. It hasn't been found in 1 year so nature was starting to reclaim it. I've made it a little more visible now. Hopefully, it'll make it easier to find.

After the unsuccessful attempt at Louie I thought it was worth getting the data for this one even though the last log was a DNF. Got what I needed, made calculations, but I, like blossom* came up empty handed. And to make matters worse I slightly twisted my ankle so I was pretty over it even though I'd had such an enjoyable time finding Time for Tea and visiting the old train station.

I thought this ought to have been fairly simple but we had no luck. There has been a bit of maintenance done in the general area here, cleaning up overgrown bits and pieces (but not the prickles I plunged my hands into! Confused ) so maybe the cache was discovered and removed. Or maybe we're not so good at multis. Very interesting spot tho Smile

I love Rockwood, you never know who you are going to meet. I'd of course guessed what the gentleman had five but it was still an honour to meet him. Lovely morning on my way to work. Drove today but only time for one, will save the other for another day. Cheers Tron!

Day trip to Sydney with LuckyL10n to bust free a few GeGnomes and snare a few more trigs. Rookwood was our second stop....for a few of the said GeGnomes as well as the nearby GCA multi's....

Well, wasn't this another interesting multi. Can't say I had heard of this chap, so once again caching has taught me something. Once we played with the numbers, our GZ seemed likely and off we went. Cache was found quickly and all was good.

Thanks again Tronador, been an interesting few multi's.....*Recommended* for other GCAer's to head out and find as well.

#GA750 - 10:55; Sol de lune and I had decided that double points month made a flying day trip to Sydney to grab some more trigs and perhaps a GeGnome or two a worthwhile adventure. An itinerary was hastily prepared and today was to be the day. We were headed over to Rookwood as our first scheduled stop when Sdl noticed a recently published CORS in Bankstown was virtually on our route. We made the detour and managed to collect the CORS as well as a nearby trig for me as another bonus. Arrived at Rookwood to find various roads closed off, but still managed to find a way through to the general vicinity of the GeGnome gathering and collected three of them. It was then time to move on from moveables to multis and this was our second. Managed to find the WP without any problems, did the calculations and on to a quick find and after signing the log, it was off for number three. TFTC tronador Very HappyClan Cerberus

After getting the previous one I continued on foot to this. Reading the description I was expecting to see something on a headstone matching the history in the description, but no luck there after checking nearby graves. Looked again at the listing and the cache name reminded me of something I had seen while looking around and sure enough soon had the information needed. Headed off the short distance to ground zero for a quick find and sign. Then it was back to the car to slowly head east and find a few more before the trip home. Thanks Tronador.

Well after several failed attempts I had to beg for help from the ever obliging CO (Thanks by the way) and finally got to GZ and found the cache.
I don't know why I had the wrong idea stuck in my head and kept going back to it, completely wrong of course but the CO put me right, no doubt laughing her head off at my stupidity!
Nonetheless thanks for the cache I kind of enjoyed it Confused

Unexpected call,I was told to, and I quote" stop being childish get your pretty little heinie over here and log some finds!". So I did, What else could I do?
Thank you for the cache. Smile

I came back again with Phil and picked up the one (of two) that got away last time. TFTC.

There you go eh! You can learn something every day even if you don't try. We were cycling around the cemetery to do all the multi caches here with this being the last. Initially we interpreted one of the co-ordinate solutions in a particular (and incorrect) way and found nought. Had another look at the instructions and Lady Altaire saw another way to solve it - which turned out to be correct. At GZ we thought - momentarily - surely we don't have to go in there! Might have been interesting if so and if it was a night cache. But no. Logic returned and we had the cache - signed sealed and re-interred. Thanks for another little history lesson.

came previously with alnic39 & lachnic62 and got to where I thought it was supposed to be but couldn't find what I was looking for, we spent a while there looking but couldn't find anything that matched the hint. When I was heading back to Rookwood to fix a cache I am looking after I checked to see what else was here. Saw that CO had been here replaced the missing cache and updated details so decided I would check this one after Louie the Fly. Worked out the co-ordinates and followed the GPSr till it told me to look. There it is. Signed the log and replaced as found

So sorry to everyone whose searched for this. The cache is gone. I've replaced it in a different spot and tweaked the description on the cache page. The given coords should take you to this persons grave. The headstone is easily readable and the grave also has a special marker in front of the headstone to indicate it is a grave of significance. The cache is not far away. It is not necessary to step on hallowed ground.

Looked everywhere...all three of us. No luck.

01-Apr-15
A last DNF for the day, I too could not read the headstone properly.

01-Apr-15
Third DNF on this one, found myself in yet another spot from previously but no cigar! The only brick I could see was holding up a monument in the middle of a grave and I was not about to lie on a grave to check under the monument.
I am obviously doing something wrong, I simply cannot read the headstone and Google gives many different results!

950 GCA caches!!!

5450 combined caches!!!

FTF!!!

After a quick google search to find who's unassuming grave I was looking for, I soon had the information I required. Then after a few circuits if GZ I spotted what I was looking for and signed the logbook first.

TFTC.

Embarassed
Return to the scene of the crime, to no avail. I knew already that I could not really decipher the carving on the headstone, not enough contrast for me and I will not stand on somebody's grave to get close enough to read it! So I tried public domain information but that did not prove successful as the info found was a bit different to what I could decipher on the stone!

Still found myself in a slightly different spot to last time but no brick to be seen anywhere!

As the immortal philosopher Homer once said "You tried and failed miserably, the lesson is never to try!"

Still there.

I was in Rookwood yesterday but had not seen the listing until this morning. Since it is a multi I was going to ignore it but it was also a GCA so I decided to make the 3 hour train trip to Lidcombe (and of course 3 hours back to Lithgow). Shocked
As it turned out got to what I expected to be GZ but could not find the cache, in fact the only brick in sight was well and truly cemented to the ground. Crying or Very sad
I should have followed my instinct and ignored it! Wink
