Description
Stanley is an 18m tall emu designed by artist John Murray.
He was originally destined for Birdsville but logistics and cost prevented this.
The emu is named after a former Lightning Ridge policeman, Commander Stan Single, who was instrumental in 'supply' of much of the materials that the emu is made from.
Stanley is made from scrap metal including VW Beetle hoods and doors, satellite dishes and recycled metal from the old Dubbo Police Station.
Stanley was officially unveiled in May 2013 and contains a time capsule due to be opened in 2063.

Found the original, this cache, from 2014. I liked that this one was in a preform tube whilst the other was in a piece of garbage. haha. Stanley is awesome! Thanks for this cache.
What an impressive and striking statue. We would not like to be the person tasked with climbing up and relieving Stanley of his time capsule egg.
No real problems finding the cache.
Thanks for the cache!

Cache and log replaced. Wrote on log sheet that it is a GA cache not GC. Now a preform.
Heading for Lightning Ridge, logging caches, trigs, etc on the way. TFTC Shifter Brains.

staying in town for a few days and a trip out to the Opal Fields we stopped and found this case the
After a morning of more touristy stuff, Samuel and I did the customary "we'll be back when we run out of light" caching afternoon, heading right out of town for some lonely FTFs and even a few GC caches too... We stopped to check out Stanley on the way. There is certainly some confusion here with two caches within a metre or three! TFTC!

Can hardly miss this fellow as you travel along the highway. What an awesome structure!
Thanks for sharing this interesting location. I have hit the road on my trip across this Great Continent, meandering from Melbourne to QLD.
Travelling across this vast land, seeing the sights, the amazing colours, the natural beauty.
The geocaches are a great bonus of my travels.
Thank you Shifter Brains for placing this cache, it's amazing to see the country in the eyes of a Geocacher.
A 3-in-1 pickup... A GC, this GCA and a Waymark.
GCA #590

#GA5586 - 09:00; Day two of the Townsville Mega adventure with Sol de lune. The plan for the day is to cache our way north Walgett on a round about route via Lightning Ridge, Hebel, Diranbandi, St George and Moonie on to Surat. Plenty of water lying around and flowing down the Balonne River. Luckily we avoided any road closures, unlike our previous foray north when we had an unanticipated night in Goondawindi, but that's a whole other story. No problems today as we collected caches along the way, including this one. TFTC Shifter Brains

In the area with LuckyL10n while on route to Townsville. Found all 3 caches in the area, but was a little worried about which was which. All seemed ok in the end and always good to get a couple in the same area.
Thanks Shifter Brains....a neat stop over along the highway.

Finally stopped y to see Stanley up close on my way home from LR. All good at GZ, but log a little damp after Friday night's rain. I've tipped the cache upside down so in future no more water should get in. I love this artist and his paintings and sculptures.
Day 18 of our outback adventure which included QOGM 2019. Back into NSW today and really travelled further than I anticipated - St George to Dubbo. Will spend a couple of nights here and decide where to from here.
A little divergence into Lightning Ridge and ran into someone Greg went to school with while we looked at opals.ing.
Thank goodness for GCA caches as the journey would have been quite bor

Cairns trip 2019. Day 2. Today was shorter and took in Coonamble, Walagett and Lightning Ridge. I\'ll have to revisit Lightning Ridge one day. After dealing with the History cache over the road I headed over to visit the emu. I found an old container with a new log and no entries. I hope that was supposed to be the case.
Thanks

Today is Muggle Hubby’s 75th Birthday. He said he didn’t want a party, he wanted an adventure. So here we are at Lightning Ridge, on our Geocaching tour heading back from QOGM.
Thanks for bringing us here. The previous finder said Stanley wasn’t here, he is certainly here today.

Stanley wasn't here last time we came to Lightning Ridge. He's an unmissable sculpture and an excellent spot to stop for a cache. We were on our way to Grawin so called in to find it. Glad we'd had a good breakfast - nothing weak about this cache attachment. TFTC Shifter Brains

Sorry for the late log but realised I hadn't logged a find when publishing a virtual cache in Lightning Ridge. We enjoyed our time at the ridge. The cache was located under the watchful eye of Stanley. Stanley is very cute and tall! TFTC

While spending the day around Lightning Ridge and environs we decided to grab a few finds that had been published since our last visit.
Some clever clogs, or should we say ‘special’ person had thought it very funny to drop a piece of sharp cactus into the hole at GZ. We removed it.

As we travelled down the highway we could see Stanley towering over the surroundings long before we reached the rest area. This is certainly an amazing sculpture.
As the area was quiet we were able to search and quickly located the cache container. A quick tug and we were able to sign the log.
Cache and contents were in very good condition.
Thanks for the cache Shifter Brains. We enjoyed our stop at Stanley

Once the muggle who had wandered over from across the road had read the information and left the cache was quickly located. Getting it out of its hidey hole was another story though. Mr Beetle couldn't get it to release either but did manage to slide it up and out. Thanks.

Nice easy find on the way out of the Ridge where we spent two hot hot days sightseeing and doing a tour. After walking down 120 odd steps to the bottom of an opal mine and then back up again I couldn't walk to any caches in the Ridge and it was too hot anyway. This one however, was the one for me! TFTC.
We were here last Easter after the Mega Event but weren't really that active with GCA caches at the time. We tend to do a few more these days and it was good to find this one. Those hard drive magnets work well! Got a cool pic of the Emu with the sun behind. TFTC!

Found on my way south after a couple of days at The Ridge & a visit to Glengarry. That magnet is very strong!! Eventually got it off as couldn't extract the logbook otherwise. I wonder where that time capsule is? An impressive sculpture. Thanks for the cache.

Staying in Lightning Ridge for a couple of days grabbing caches in the area and this was one of them.
We were unaware it was a FTF until we signed the log. A case of being in the right place at the right time.
Stanley is a very impressive sculpture and a must see. Thanks for bringing us here and for the cache.
