It's All About The Numbers - Powertrail in a Can - 2

Some may remember this series from a few years ago. At the time I felt dirty placing them so they became archived not long after I activated them. They however got a relatively good reception. So due to everyman and his dog (or at least kangaroo) putting out a power trail in the last couple of years I began to feel I was missing out. Therefore they have been remade (moved to a slightly quieter location as well) and inspired a brand new series of caches making a mockery of lazy caches.

It's all about the numbers (IAATN), every geocacher knows that. This series is dedicated to those caches that are only about building your stats.

Below is the slightly modified blurb from this trails previous life because this is a lazy trail and I can't be bothered explaining it all again.

Powertrails are a craze that seem to be sweeping the geocaching world. Love or hate them they are here to stay it seems. In the good ol' US of A they have trails up to 1,500 caches. Here in Oz we are a bit lazier. We have much smaller trails seemingly usually between 10 and 30 caches. We even have the smallest powertrail, Roundcircle’s Aussie powertrail of a single cache. Even Canberra is in on the powertrail action with seemingly every new cache part of a trail.

However, powertrails are still too much effort. Having to move at least 160m to find the next micro seems like a lot of effort, and the worlds shortest one does not boost your stats enough to make it a really worth it. But what’s the solution?

Well this cache is!

A powertrail of 10 caches all conveniently located in a single container. So grab your pen, and get ready to be signing for a while.

Well that was a bit of a treat. GLISS! and I were out on a regular old GC power trail and checked around to see what GCA’s might be close and I spotted this little guy. A power trail in a box!! Perfect! Just what we needed to get a ton of extra shots for the battleship game in one foul swoop Smile took a little rummaging but the cache soon appeared! Winner. All 10 little gems are in great condition. Thanks for the funky little cache(s)!!!

Found today with Smittengranny out chasing caches for the summer game. 2nd one for the day and what a great find and idea. Had to read the previous logs to find it though. TFTC

Joolay and I have been working hard to gain points for the current game, so when we saw this one, it was a real bonus. I wish there were more like it. Like others before us, we tried the PAF trick but with no answer I told Joolay about the digging trick and in no time we were signing logs. DancingDancing

We had found nine GA caches this afternoon and needed a further eight caches to lift our dragon zone finds for Tuesday from 183 to 200 and we needed 13 finds to lift our finds for the seventh of the month from 37 to 50. We had noticed this cache so added it to our must look for list.

Some how we managed to confuse our selves over the location of this hide. A geo friend put us on the right track.

We found an access point to the park were the cache is hidden after doing a circuit of the area.

A short walk around the block saw us arrive at the publish coordinates. We searched around lifting the recently dumped mulch and poking around the trees and rocks but no cache could we find. After some time of fruitless searching we decided to text a recent finder. While one was texting the other sat down and idly started to dig to china. Low and behold what should she unearth but a well buried container and yes the ten caches were safe, clean and dry. After signing the log for number two we went on to the next. It took us longer to locate the container than it took to sign all the logs.

Thanks for this cache and its fellow house mates Cantanga. We were very pleased to unearth them as they enabled us to increase our finds for the seventh day of the month to fifty six, to increase our finds for Tuesday to 202 and completed our Shooting for the Stars dragon zone trophy.

10 for the price of 1? Gotta love that. Interesting concept which I'd like to see more of. Although 50 mint tins in a large container is a bit daunting !

GCA 1629. Found on a miserable rainy day lunchtime run with minniek.

I hate Power Trails. Well - I hate Power Trails I haven't done yet ! Lol. But this is the sort of Power Trail I can enjoy - even if it was raining. We decided to do the PT backwards - that way you sometimes bump into people doing them in order. Wink 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 also reminds me of a great album.... Did I mention it was raining ?

Next find for today - signed the log, replaced the cache, and headed off to the next one. Rinse and repeat - cut and paste begins...

I was nearby, looking for another cache, and I decided to have a crack at these caches again...

..aaaaaaaaand I didn't find them.

I walked back to the car, somewhat frustrated, and realised that I had a hint from the CO sitting in my GCA inbox.

So I read it. I figured "what the hell, I'll go back and check again"

oh.. poke.. plastic noise... oh it can't be this small.. oh it is!

Signed the caches and was on my way again. TFTC Catanga!

Took a hike along this powertrail to maintain. This one is still there and in good condition. Resorted the containers as someone has mixed up the cache locations as they are all jumbled up. Copy and paste from here on out to maintain laziness integrity of this trail.

861. Well what a difference a bit of overnighter pondering can do for you. Still wandered around aimlessly for a while until I noticed the usual cacher tell tale signs of those objects being neatly lined up. so then the chore was done on the nearby pad which made it a might drier than the grass surrounds today.

778.Whoa - much embarrassment. I wasn't entirely sure what was happening here and then got confused with a similarly named cache on Mt Taylor. SO when I couldn't find the container on first try I assumed that it was a moveable and had gone to the nearby big hill. Got hoe and then realised that was not the case. Argh. Teach me to take my glasses so I can read the description.

Found on a lovely morning! I loved the other 'Power Trail in a Can' as soon as we found the previous one - it's such a novel idea that can unfortunately only be done on GCA! It was so nice to see this one back in business. This big container was quicker to find than the previous one. Great concept in a nice area. TFTC catanga!

Found about 10:20pm. I had tagging along geodaughter and friends. So it turned into a little bit of an assembly line when they realised how many had to be signed and logged. Eventually I had a little help with opening and unravelling whilst I signed, keeping those signed to one side and then couple being rolled back up. Once all the power trail was signed were the caches returned to the hide.

No – I’m not after the numbers – I’m after getting those pesky things off my unfound list! In fact, I am only logging one of these on my official GSAK database, as I don’t want to exaggerate the numbers. Now don’t do that ever again Very Happy

#GA577 - 15:35; I'd left this one for the FTF crowd to walk the trail first and make sure the coast was clear, but this afternoon the time had come to tackle what looked like it could be a challenging run. Not sure what I should expect, the anticipation built as I parked the geomobile and grabbed the geograndson from the back seat and headed off. Made GZ fairly quickly and soon had #1 under my belt. The hunt for #2 ensued and it wasn't long before I had that one signed off too. Would #3 present an additional challenge? TFTC cantanga Very HappyClan Cerberus

I have not done one of these before - very interesting concept. As it was new to me I was not too sure what I was looking for. When I found it all became clearer to me but I had under estimated how long it would take to sign all those logs so it was dark by the time I had finished. I have copied & pasted by log as it seems is the custom. TFTC this will boost my numbers for the "Winter is Coming" competition

Yep, my kinda powertrail. A very pleasant trail and some good weather to complete it. For convenience I chose to complete it in the following order,
5,9,1,10,4,8,2,6,7 & 3.
Many thanks for the series and my apologies for the copy and paste, but like Sdl says......it is a powertrail after all.

Ah yes, remember the first series well. Has it been that long? Wow, time does fly....

At just under 2klms from home, it wasn't before I arrived at GZ and soon had the power trail covered. Sat in the sun and made my mark on all the logs and then replaced them all for the next power trail hunter.

Thanks for the fun again canatanga, along with the *FTF*.....and in the the spirit of a power trail, all my logs will now be a cut n paste...... WinkWink
