Description

The spot caching couple Zalgariath and Zhaomin got engaged!

Zhe Tasmanian Dove Proposal

A Zalgar & Zhaoy GCA Virtual Cache!

We had been looking forward to this holiday for a while, but the honest truth is this event was completely spontaneous and unplanned. Well, I had of course been thinking about it, but until 10 minutes beforehand I had no idea this would be the day our lives changed forever.

Zhaomin and I first met in Inverness, Scotland on November 3rd 2011. I was sitting in a hostel logging my cache finds from the day and wearing a shirt which read <geek> on the front and </geek> on the back... she got the joke and so things were off to a good start! :D She asked what I was doing and so I said I'd show her and we embarked on our first of many caching adventures. The cache is sadly now archived but our first find was GC33E4K - "The curious case of the invisible bicycle?"  and that's where it all began. The next few days we toured together around the north coast of Scotland and soon met up again in England where she was living at the time. I renewed my contract to work in Ireland and the UK in 2012 so we could continue to see each other and soon she would tour Ireland with me and I would visit China to meet her family...  caching all the way.

Zhaoy came to live in Australia in June 2012 on her first visa which was for a year, but we had to leave the country every 3 months so trips to Thailand and New Zealand ensued. We had by this time long ago realised this was no holiday romance and we took steps to get Zhaoy to become Australian. What resulted was a 7 month trial as we were forced to live apart awaiting her visa to be processed. The day I got the message she was now an Australian resident was the best on my life... until this week! Soon we'd be back together and we continued to cache and explore our homelands and the world. This trip to Tassie was simply meant to be an extension of that journey but ended up being a much bigger step!

The weather had been phenomenal so far and as we pulled up in the shuttle bus and approached the majesty of the mountain a thought struck me... but I was not prepared! What to do?! We snapped some photos and begun the Dove Lake Circuit walk. By the time we had climbed the Glacier Rock my mind was made up... the silverware would have to wait. I'd been waiting for a perfect spot and perfect time... and it would be hard to ever beat this opportunity. As we approached a small deserted beach with amazing views of the Mountain taking what I knew (hoped! :P) would be the last photos of my single life I knew it was time. I stole the ring I had bought for her on our first trip to China off her hand and reoffered it to her with a few more strings attached... luckily, she said "Yes yes yes!"

That's enough self-indulgence for one day... now to the cache! Obviously we couldn't maintain a real one, so a virtual will have to do. We were very lucky a few minutes after our private moment passed a group of tourists arrived on scene and we recreated the proposal for some photos. Google+ then auto-awesomed them and the idea for this cache was born.

To log your find your need to recreate the proposal photo below!

I hope your weather is as nice as ours but no matter if it is not. Take a photo of 2 people, one on bent knee proposing something... anything! If you are solo hijack a stranger though be careful what you propose to them! If you really can't find a friend, propose to the mountain of your intentions towards her :D

No need to wait for permission to log, just upload your proposal photo and include in your log what it is you proposed to you partner in caching crime. Bonus points if you take 5 photos and get google to auto-awesome them like the shot below.

Engaged at Dove Lake - 15th December 2014

The ring I wear everyday from my 21st birthday, and the ring I gave Zhaoy on our first trip to China. It symbolises a 10,000 year promise, so is rather appropriate. The Monkey King also wore one on his head in "Journey to the West" (aka Monkey Magic!).... :P

Going through my old photos and whilst not actually a proposal it is a pikkie of three friends enjoying a magnificent holiday together. Hope this will suffice to claim a find.

This was a very apt cache to do today! We are having a weekend away at Cradle Mountain for our silver wedding anniversary and decided to brave the snow and blizzard conditions to walk around Dove Lake. Occasionally we got a glimpse of Cradle Mountain but the walk through the snow was beautiful. We will be back anyway when it warms up to try some of the longer walks. And so, after a quarter of a century, I got to propose again! Thanks Zalgariath, a very apt cache, and a super location! TFTC!
Cheers,
The Hancock Clan

Ever since I saw this cache published, I knew I had to come and visit this spot. Only took 3 years to make it happen.

Our Cradle Mountain visit was dictated by getting the required photos for this cache. Arrived at GZ (good selection) and we had the place to ourselves. We had fortunately planned for this moment many years previously and had children who could operate a phone and take the selection of photos. Actually, only one of them had the required skill set, but that's why you have more then one, right? The reenactment was was more than happened originally, but I have no complaints Smile. This year will be our 19th wedding anniversary although we've known each other for 26 years. We started out camping and adventureating and we're still doing it and have plans to keep going until the end. Our "travel bear" (who is pictured holding our rings) has been on many of our trips dating back to the late 90's. The kids occupied themselves by skimming stones which helped to keep the muggles away.

It was fantastic weather for the visit and walk and I'm sure we'll be back to have a go at some of the other walks in the not too distant future.

We walked to the boathouse today at Dove Lake. My husband of 34 years got down into position after waiting for all the crowds to walk on. Only time for one photo before more people came walking along. Thanks for this fun photo cache. Surprised more people have not done it.

As the Dove Lake circuit is one of our favorite walks we were delighted when this cache appeared and hoped other young caching couples would follow in your footsteps. Alas so far there has only been one log.
Today was a beautiful clear day, somewhat hot for Tasmania so we decided to start the new year with a walk around our lake with a stop at this lovely little beach and an attempted at this cache. But what to propose and to whom?
We have recently celebrated our 43 wedding anniversary and Mr Y'stassie is no-longer stable enough to balance on one knee so Mrs Y'stassie was delegated to do the honors. As our children were all Monkey Magic fans and the coming year is the Chinese Year of the Monkey we decided it would be appropriate for the proposal to be made to one of the family monkeys - that all monkey business in the Wise household shall involve both of us.
Thanks for the cache Zalgariath and our very best wishes for your future together Zhaomin and Zalgariath. Maybe in years to come both of you will revisit this lovely spot.

I saw this when it was published and knew that I had to visit this location as we were organising our family vacation here. With only two nights in cradle mountain Dove Lake was one of our must do locations. The weather was obviously not as good as when you visited but was instead on a twenty minute cycle between cold sunshine and snow. The kids enjoyed throwing snowballs and making snowmen so I thought I would propose to this one.
Thanks Zalgariath & Zhaomin for the smilie down here at Cradle Mountain.
