Description

A stroll around the lakes of Caroline Springs

Caroline Springs, just 25km west of Melbourne is a thriving community with a great trail of paths and walkways between the artificial lakes, ponds and creeks. Set in 800 hectares of grazing land Caroline Springs was developed on greenfield land since starting in 1999. At the north of the suburb is the town square and main shopping center known as CS Square, and a man-made lake known as Lake Caroline. It is around the man made lakes that your meanderings will take you as you collect the various geocaches around the area.

The cache you seek is a 200ml sistema container painted to blend into the surroundings. Be aware of water and snakes in the summer time.

Winter is Coming is all about geocaching during the cold weather, the challenge of controlling dragonZones and your own obsession with completing goals and earning dZPoints. These challenges and points are in addition to your normal dragonZone points. Your normal dragonZone points will also be accrued towards your total in this game. There are a number of different challenges to choose from during this game. Some will be easy. Some will be tough. Some may be impossible. Challenges can be accomplished more than once. The game software will calculate your points as you log your geocaches at Geocaching Australia. Challenges are there to give your points a boost and you are not required to achieve any challenge in order to participate in the game. Simply being a dragonZone game member will allow you to participate. Once you have collected your first points in the game, you will appear on the ladder. All points collected from all dragonZone activities will count towards your position on the ladder. This includes standard finds, daily dZPoints, challenge bonus points, trophy points and any points awarded by the game administrators.

A definite change in scenery as I swapped the Freeway trail for the lakeside paths of Caroline Springs. Not to mention caching in the dark once again.

Great to see that most were still there and in great nick after lying dormant for a year and a half.
-----
The cooler weather this weekend made today perfect for a bike ride. With a stiff southerly blowing, I decided that I'd tackle the lower reaches of the Kororoit Creek with the wind at my tail, rather than the tougher option... then enjoy a non-stop jaunt alongside the Ring Road and Western Freeway to where I left off last week.

It was certainly quite different this time around: express rather than stopping all stations (caches), then, once I'd made it to the vicinity of the prison, a cool, and occasionally damp evening compared to the balmy weather of late.

By the time I reached the middle of Caroline Springs, there were nearly a dozen and a half more smileys, with only a few I couldn't locate, and finds on some caches that had been dormant for a year and a half. Oh, and both my phone and GPSr were running on fumes when I finally got on a train. All in all, a good evening expedition.

Many thanks, C@W.

**Date: 10 December 2016 Time: 11:45 AM GCA Find #339**

I was over the other side of town for a family Christmas party, so I decided to leave home super early and find some GCA caches as well as going for a bit of a walk around the Caroline Springs wetlands.

I was going to go back to the car at this point and move it closer, but decided to complete the whole loop walk. After 2 DNF's, it was a relief to find this one. This took a while to locate and in the end it was on the opposite side of the path from where the GPSr was pointing. Cache again in A1 condition

**Thanks to Caughtatwork for the cache. TNLN**

Checked the location out and the cache is still safe and secure as the hint indicates. As Bart Simpson might say "Look harder, Homer!".

Sad

Maybe it's gone. But me and a friend looked for a good 20 minutes.

If someone finds it, let me know via picture please.

This trail was in two parts. Bird life was plentiful for the first half and was replaced by few birds and more tranquil scenes in the second half. All was quiet here too. Accurate coordinates and the hint led to a quick find. The cache and contents were in good order. Thanks for the cache caughatwork.

Today I dropped off the geokids and continued on north for a few smileys.

I completed a great little circuit of the lakes of Caroline Springs.

Some great caches that you can complete in just on an hour.

I looked on the wrong side at first.

Widening the search I found the hide.

Next stop in this series. Parked the car at number 1 and decided to take the stroll around to all the caches....and on any other day that would probably be a good idea. As for today....who the hell was I kidding...that was just plain DUMB!! I guess the people driving past who beeped at me as I was walking back to the car along the main drag thought so as well. Evil or Very MadEvil or Very Mad

Anyways, this first one was found ok, and with the weather the way it was, I used the hint on every one....couldn't see the sense in trying to find something, while holding the umbrella up like a target for any lightning to aim for. Brick WallBrick Wall

Log/s was soon signed, cache replaced and I was getting wetter....if that was even possible! But, it was still a caching run, and I enjoyed the area. I can remember when they started to build the area....new suburb, new display homes, it was all the go. Mid 90's I think??

Thanks for the series caughtatwork....just hope you don't mind cut n paste logs!!! DohDohDoh

The coords had me on the wrong side of the path here but the hint was nice and specific and made for a quick find. Signed and replaced and on the home stretch but this was taking longer than expected. Oh well, I can always make the time up tomorrow.
Thanks caughtatwork for the caching fun.

Relief achieved, it was back to the task at hand at a far more leisurely rate. Wink With only two of the newies to go, this was first and was a nice quickie at 12:10 to mark our 10th GCA FTF (and 73rd overall). Dancing
