Description

Another in our Platypus series at Fern Glade.

This cache is currently the last one in our Platypus series and is at a picnic spot at the end of the path from the bottom gate.  Alternatively you could enter the reserve at the top gate and do the series in reverse.

A platypus breathes air and will drown if tangled in a net for more that a few minutes.  They can travel long distances along creeks and rivers.  If a river goes under a road the platypus may prefer to  go up and over rather than through a narrow pipe. This puts them in danger of being run over by cars.  If you find an injured platypus please contact Bushwatch or Parks & Wildlife.

There are picnic tables, bbqs and toilet facilities in this area.  GZ may be a busy place in fine weather so good luck with your search.

Please note:  This reserve is closed at night so no night caching.

While in the area finding a moveable and a puzzle cache we took the opportunity to drive in to do a couple of caches. The gate is usually shut so these were nearly drivebys! Mrs W was pleased Mr W offered to go for this one as it was a "stretch". TFTC

Hello sharnie's tribe thanks for the cache.

I spotted the hide but it took EeePees to climb up and retrieve it.

Found on Friday 3 July 2020.

Thanks for the cache Sharnie's tribe. RLD4963 were staying nearby for a few days and we decided to spend a morning here exploring this beautiful reserve. We had our fingers crossed for spotting a platypus but we had no luck today. We were much more successful in locating the cache which RLD4963 was able to retrieve. The log was signed and cache returned. Thanks for bringing us to this area.

today we decided to make an assualt on the fernglade series of caches since never being in the area today was a good opportunity to explore a new area.
once at the ground zone and using the hint, it led to a quick find and signing of the log. this was a very beautiful area and exploration of the area was much enjoyed.

Quick find thanks to the hint - first corner I tried

TFTC.
Took the longer way to walk to this cache, and then it took me quite a while to actually find cache.
Found this cache on a 2 day trip to the NW, covering over 1000 kms and finding around 100 caches of both GCA and GC

Had a lovely walk (and climb!) to retrieve and replace this one. Met some friendly people from Sydney and actually saw a platypus! Very excited about that. Thanks, Sharnie's tribe. Another beaut walk in beautiful surroundings.

Today we visited this area finding caches that had been published since our last visit.

An early morning visit was an advantage here as no muggles about.- cache and contents in good condition. TFTC

The final one in this neat series in the area. Enjoyed the walk, and all the cache were found without and issue, except maybe the last one....sometimes I do like my height.

Thanks ST....good series and an informative walk. Didn't see anything in the water, but not from want of looking!!

Hi Sharnies
The second day of a four day trip racking up 1535kms. Starting at Huonville to Ulverstone (Night One); to Marrawah (Night 2); Arthur River back to Burnie (Night 3) and day four to Launceston and back to Huonville - a great trip!

This was the 16th today, 24th cache of the trip.

Slowly walked from the slide to this cache with a short stop over on the way
Being short in the legs, the stretch was overcome by engineering a good means of attack
Two muggles came by during the process of signing the log; but were no real trouble to my efforts
Replacing the cache was a lot easier than the extraction

Sainted the cache at 1130hrs.
TFTC and cheers

Fernglade is one of my favourite places for childhood memories. I almost always come for a walk here when visiting family or friends in Burnie. My dad first taught me how to cast with a fishing rod right by this cache! Today the water level was very very low due to the drought. It was a warm sunny day and there were quite a few visitors at the other end of the walking track but not here so I was able to access the cache quite easily with a little climb as I'm a shorty. All was in good condition. Thanks for placing the cache Sharnie's Tribe!

Travelling around Australia and spending a few months in Tasmania.

Today we headed out to try and find the remaining caches around Burnie.

The weather was kind and the areas we visited really pretty. We are just loving our visit to Tassie. Cool

I was lucky I was tall enough! Rolling Eyes

Had a fantastic walk along this beautiful area, haven't been here for a long time. Forgot how serene the walk was, it was made even better by the company I had on the day. Thanks Shanie's TFTC

After grabbing the 2 caches at the bottom of the walk we drove up to the top car park and grabbed this cache. It was quickly found and signed, although we did have to climb to retrieve it as we couldn't quite reach it.
Looks like a top spot for a bbq and we will return for one some day. Can imagine cooking on these bbq's with a drink in one hand and looking at the great river views from here. Thanks.

After hiding some moveable caches time was short so we stopped on the way home to have a quick look for this new cache. Fortunately the tall team member was present as the short one would have been able to reach this one. Accurate coordiates led to a quick find just as the council employee drove in to check the car park prior to locking the gate. A quick sign amd the cache was rehidden as found. FTF at 5.00pm. Thanks for the cache sharnie's tribe we are looking forward to returning to look for the others and perhaps see a platypus. No time for a picnic today.
