Description
Trees of Canberra Avenue - Historic Engineering Marker #60
In 1926 The Institution of Engineers, Australia, was one of a dozen organisations (mainly national in coverage) that sponsored the planting of trees in Canberra Avenue, the result of a suggestion put forward by a member of the Associated Chambers of Commerce. The Institution sponsored some 96 trees, and on a visit to Canberra in August a dozen members, and some wives, planted a token 3 dozen trees in the names of past and present Councillors, of benefactors of The Institution, and of its several Divisions.
At page 35 and following of the linked report there is an overview of the assesment of remaining trees and a map of their location.
According to sources, there is a CFPP plaque at Manuka Circle, Manuka near the GZ.
When logging this virtual, please add a photo of yourself or your GPSr at the plaque or with a tree of your choice (make sure you can describe which tree according to the earlier mentioned report).

Having not even looked at the GCA map in the ACT, I still took a photo with it and later discovered that, indeed, one of these virtuals was associated with it.
Always funny where I find these.
Thanks to Team MavEtJu for placing this virtual!

Thanks for the cache.
Great to visit this area though and see where the famous Manuka Oval was. Pity we couldn't get inside to search for the GC cache there but the 2 gates we checked were both locked.
Thanks.
Thank you for bringing my attention to this interesting bit of Canberra history, Team MavEtJu.

An eventful ride - I saw a 3 car pile up, and shortly after, huge storm rolled in!
Being on my own, I opted for the 'GPSr and the plaque' method.
Thanks Team MavEtJu.
Thanks

I chose the grove of pin oaks Quercus palustris - beautiful in autumn & in spring
