Description

Walk though the Willoughby Street Reserve!

I've just changed this cache from a 'Night Cache' to a 'Traditional.'

Park at 43.752/20.373, at the corner of Willoughby Road and Carleton Road, where there's a fairly obvious entry into the Reserve. Please stay on the trails. There is no need to bush-bash and GZ is only about a metre or so from the trail. There are a number of other entry points, but this one is located on a quiet street and is probably the closest parking spot to GZ. (It's also right at the location of one of my GC caches!)

Towards the end of your short (about 250 metres) walk, if you start going steeply down hill, then you've gone too far. The network of little trails leading to GZ are all pretty much on the flat, although sometimes a bit narrow. If you overshoot GZ by more than 100 metres or so, you will indeed eventually come to a small cliff, so please take care.

This is the reason I love Australian caches over international – they take you to places that many don’t want to tread. They must have a bush care group working in this reserve a on 1 track they had signs please don’t step on rocks as concrete is wet. Maybe not when I got to them, but it was newish. Many thanks for the walk on the wild side of life - TFTC / TFTH / SL

Found It!
A nice walk in here. It took a lot of searching to find the cache but eventually I looked at the right banksia plant and found it!

Previously came and parked at the parking coords for this cache.
I don't have good night eyesight and couldn't spot any glows. Since then MrT and I have done a GC night cache so have a better idea of what to look for.
However I was passing today and thought I would check it out. Using a bit of logic knowing it was meant to head the cliff direction i took the required fork. With help from a paf, and using the hint, it only took me 4 attempts to find the right place! Signed log and returned as found. TFTV

What an adventure. And a frrrrrrrrrreeeeeezzzzzzing one too! Pulled up at the beginning of a track and headed to GZ. This was the easy part. One path and no intersections along the way to it. But once at GZ... !?!?!?!... I couldn't find a tack for the life of me, headlamp on and all. I went some meters down all the paths and back, and even back along the one I came in on, but couldn't see a thing. I had noticed that all the other night caches in the area were archived or something, leaving me with just this one to find. I had to find it! So I ventured a long was along a few paths, aided with the light of the silvery moon, until finally I saw something glowing in the bushes that wasn't a house light between leaves. Yes!!! I'm on the right track. Which track am I on again? Oh, and theres another intersection. Great. No tacks to be seen. Which way now? Off I went again, quite frozen by now as I'd been wandering around in the dark for some time now. A couple of intersections and backtrackings later and I saw another light. Aha! Yes! I'm on the right path! Seeing no more lights from here, I wondered if this was the last one. Hoped really. I had been out wandering aimlessly for some time and wasn't even sure where I was or if there happened to be any cliffs further down. I decided to do the geocacher thing and see if there were any signs of geocaches at the marker. Bingo! Then I thought, I hope this isn't just a waypoint container. Thankfully not.

Geocache log signing duties done, I turned my attention to my phone's google maps. Hmmm - I really should have brought my GPS. I have no clue where I am or where I parked now. So about half an hour later I finally came up behind a bunch of houses and couldn't find a way around them, so quietly wandered through a yard to the road out front. I wasn't going to keep wandering till I found a way out! I was a little nervous about the steep rocks nearby, what lay beyond them, and the dimming of my headlamp. Thankfully my phone had plenty of battery and I was able to find my way back to the car along the roads.

I'll have to add that to the list of things I probably shouldn't have done alone. But, hey, I'm alive. Smile

#GA2362 - 21:25; After weekend caching around the Macquarie region, today I was headed for the hills for a few days with the geohoney relaxing in the Blue Mountains. After collecting a couple of caches closer to sea level and a couple of trigs on the way up the hill, we stopped off at the Norman Lindsay Gallery and took a tour. It was well worth the visit and so were the scones and jam at the cafe after Clapping By this time we had checked into the hotel and finished logs from the earlier finds before having a nice meal and heading into the town centre to collect a nice bottle of red. Grabbed a cache as well then headed back to the digs with a detour to give this cache a try. I parked near the entry to the track and made my way to the posted coords. The GPSr was moving around a bit and I wandered about in a circle (or triangle) around three intersecting tracks before I spotted a white fire tack. I continued along that track, but saw no more until I spotted the gold fire tack at GZ. Woo Hoo Dancing I made my way over and soon had my name in the log, more than 2 years since the last find. It seems the bush may have grown and some of the tacks have disappeared, but the cache is still in place. TFTC pjmpjm Very Happy

Alnic39 & myself caught up with CO at the start of the track to have a look for the cache. There was still some light around when we started the walk so it was easy to follow the path. We got to where we were supposed to see the first orange marker but picked up a white further down the track so went back to where we were supposed to see the first marker but still didn't see it. So we went on and found some tacks may have fallen out and at one point Al found an orange tack on the ground. Continued on till I spotted the yellow tack and went to the cache for a very quick find. That was an enjoyable walk in the bush. We signed the log and replaced. The yellow marker was moved slightly to be easier to spot as you are approaching. The orange tack was placed at the beginning for the next person to search. Thanks for the cache and the night walk pjmpjm

Phlphotos and I met the CO nearby and we chatted about all things caching, and a few other topics while we used some powerful headlamps to find the prize. Clever little things, and it was a beautifully clear and cool evening for a walk above the valley. I love this sport! Thanx PJM.

A lovely night time walk that my middle son and I invited the owner to join us on.

We followed the racks and were soon at GZ signing the log.

Thanks to the CO for the pick up to and from leura station, otherwise it might have been a very boring walk down the street!
Surprising how it all looks so different at night, but no problem following the fire tacks to GZ.
Thanks for a nice cache.
