Description

CY O'Connor Beach

During cooler or inclement weather, CY O'Connor Beach can be a place of solitude - but I suspect that this will change with the City of Cockburn's plans to develop the surrounding vacant land into a new suburb with a population of about 10,000 people.

The beach and adjacent reserve are named for Charles Yelverton O'Connor, the engineer responsible for some of the most significant infrastructure projects in Western Australia's history, notably Fremantle Harbour and the Eastern Goldfields water supply. O'Connor died in the vicinity of the listed coordinates and there is a commemorative sculpture, just off-shore, depicting O'Connor on his horse. There are also some reminders of the area's industrial heritage in the vicinity.

To log this cache, you are required to visit the location, take a photo of at least one of the artefacts visible from GZ - there's a few to choose from - and attach your photo(s) to your log.

Out and about caching and taking photos for the day. House sitting over here in this beautiful state. Always a great way to explore areas. Lovin' life, coffees and caches, waymarks and photos, taking the roads less travelled, letting my GPS be my guide. Does it get any better than travelling this great land of ours? Dancing

What a beautiful area to take a stroll (and quite a few photos). So quiet too. Lovely area and sad history.

Thanks for the Virtual Cache firnsy. Appreciate you highlighting this area and bringing me here. Clapping

A little road trip grabbing GC and GA caches as we go along. Came here late yesterday but the sun would have been annoying so back down this morning after checking out of our nearby accommodation.

First time I have been to this beach so after the trek in, and down the dune I saw what is part of our WA history and a sad tribute to the man that was our engineering marvel, may he rest in peace

TFTC firnsy Very Happy love it

Nice to see a new log on this one. It is indeed a very cool place ... this is one of my favourite beaches. I used to come here almost daily and it is one spot that I really do miss following my move to NZ.

Came by today to find a few local GCA caches, have been caching here in the past. Now its time to clean a few of the new ones that have popped up. Could not see much as the tide was high but managed to get off a couple of shots.

Called by here on my home to pay another Homage to CY O'Connor. What a great Man. Thousands of people have no idea what this great man did for this state and what legacies he left behind. Very sad story and an absolute tragedy that he never got to see his dream come to fruition.

Thanks Firnsy for the cache and giving me an opportunity to come and reflect on this great man. Smile

I noticed this one still hasn't had a log so talked the muggledaughter into driving us for a stroll in the sand. Was a beautiful evening and sunset and would have loved to do the nearby multi as well but I think I would have had to walk home if I did that Rolling Eyes

TFTC firnsy Very Happy
