Description
Why do birds fly in a V formation?
Well most people think it is to save energy.
A more complicated answer is the following.
As a birds wings flap it creates a rolling vortex of air that rolls of the wingtips.
This means the air immediately behind the bird is pushed downwards.
The air behind and of to the sides get's pushed upwards, another bird flying here get's free lift. Bonus!
Anyway look to the skies, it maybe today, it maybe next month but photograph a v formation in the skies.
The only catch is there must be at least 10 birds in action.
See the example I took below.
Good Luck!

Hi themd
While caching in the Howden area looking for caches in the "Tinderbox Area Views" series; this "V" formation flew past as I was taking photos of the scene
The cache that I had just found was GA22307 "Tinderbox Area Views - Top of the Hill"
This shot of the "V" flying formation is different in that I am above the birds in the formation and not below it as would normally be the case
I'm not sure what birds they were, but I think they may have been seagulls
Thanks for this cache and the associated challenge
Hope you enjoy the series of photographs
Cheers OldSaint

I have been attempting to grab this one for awhile but every time I see one V formation they are too far away to get the photo. got this one today as the passenger was ready with the camera. TFTLC

I was out placing a GA moveable cache and checking where to place when I looked up and saw all these birds coming from the east and heading west over the ring road at Barrabool Rd.
By the time I had grabbd the camera some had gone past but there are eight or nine in the image and there are more in the green pane in the sound barrier so I hope this qualifies.
