Description

In the pine forest near the cricket pitch there is an old stone wall that runs down to the avenue.  You will also find the remains of many stone a branch forts constructed by various visiting children (and some adults too). Have used both the electric and wood fired BBQ's many times in this spot and it makes a good base for a walk all the way around Hollybank. Container is a plain 200ml sistema. Coordinates might be slightly off.

Looked for this one back in March 2021 and remember being quite frustrated at not being able to find it.
Decided to tackle it again today on our way to Scottsdale to look for the 56 caches on the rail trail there.
Searched for a long time and then spotted a likely place as we headed back to the van after giving up.
It was the replacement cache but we didn't mind and it was good to finally cross this one off.
Thanks.

After a lot of searching we found the original cache, we never sighted the replacement. Coords were out by 15 m.TFTC

A Trip with Oldsaint was on the cards for today, and the target was GCA caches for shots on the battleship board. A second objective was to get Oldsaint to the next dragonzone level, which happened early in the day. Thank you for the caches to that helped make the day a success.

Took Oldsaint with me to this cache, and yes it was gone - but we came prepared to replace the cache

The coordinates are S41 18.347 E147 12.477 as per previous logs

Didn't have a lot of time to spend here on the way home today but did give the search about 20 minutes. The location we searched the most fitted 2y'stassies coordinates but we came up empty handed. Perhaps after 2 years without a find it was just buried deeper than we looked.
Thanks.

I was back to finally find this cache and a couple of others that had turned up fairly recently and after searching and searching and not really getting anywhere, reread some of the old logs especially 2y'stassies' co-ordinates of S41 18.347 E147 12.477...I had looked here on my last visit and no luck, oh well I am here again, this spot really fits the hint, I will dig a bit deeper (so to speak), and that familiar blue colour finally caught my eye and I at last had this cache in my hand. Signed and put back in place for the next geocacher.

Back in this reserve hiding some moveables and thought I would have another go at this one. This time the GPS was more cooperative and I found myself in an area that fitted the description. Walked away but came back to the original spot. Looked around and saw something that would be obvious to a cacher. Looked and found the cache. No one around today as too wet and cold so I could hunt uninhibited. TFTC

17-Oct-17

After climbing both St Patricks Head and South Sister over the past 10 days it was off to tackle Mt Arthur for the 3rd time.

The weather forecast was for a fairly hot day, just hope its a bit cooler on top.

My last visit here was to find a gc cache...King of Camelot which was so hard to find it took two visits up the Mt and around 90 min in total to find it.

Unfortunately trig points weren't listed as gca caches back, hence anorher trip up was required to both the fire cabin and the Trig cairn.

Back then I had my trusty canine companion with me...aka sirius....but sadly his age now precludes him from doing any more bushwalks and mountain climbs, but as soon as I had put my hat and boots on, Murder(the younger of the two canine family....4 yo) started to get pretty excited as he just loves both bush walking and travelling around in the geo fourby.

My eldest canine...Sirius...is now too old(16.9 y.o.) to leave the comfort of his bed in front of the wood heater...which has an electric blanket of course(which he just loves and is great for his arthritis). Having walked 100's of km's with me geocaching over the years up numerous mountains, bush walking along many trails plus along vast stretches of beaches etc while geocaching, he has certainly earned his rest..an amazing companion who never gave up no matter how hard it got for him...a truly remarkeable and treasured companion.

So now Murder has the opportunity to retrace the footsteps of his elder canine mate...sirius.

After 2 hrs or so of driving we finally arrived at the parking area next to the shed at the end of a well gravelled spur road. The last time here a locked gate was encountered about half way up, so this time a considerable amount of walking time was saved.

From here it's a steady climb up through beautiful but stunted myrtle forest and climbing up and over many boulder sections.

Murder with his long legs bounded up with ease, though one climb up a boulder took a couple of attempts.

After 31min from the shed we both arrived at the old fire cabin which has seen better days. The views from up here  today are absolutely awesome though a little hazy on the horizon.

After Murder stood in for his photo opp, it was then off across the plateau to visit the Mt Arthur Trig cairn.

The trip across the plateau to the cairn only took a further 20min, where along the way Murder was able to get a good drink from running water, but exoect that will soon dry up over the summer.

A good rock scramble soon had Murder at the base of the cairn, right under the visitors log book container. There was a lovely cooling breeze here as Murder obligingly stood in for his 2nd photo op for the day.Extensive views out to Bass Strait and far inland. An excellent walk and highly reccommended to all....cheers ST.Its now back down to find some more GA caches before heading home.

The next cache....Between trees and a hard place...in the Hollybank Reserve was soon found in a good hide. The cache is in top nick..many thanks for the cache...Hammer-Oz....cheers ST.

Heading to Lilydale today so stopped by to look for this cache. Love the Hollybank reserve. Its a great place to explore in all seasons. The Autumn leaves have blown away so it was quite wintery today. As expected our GPs's were all over the place so the search took some time. We kept coming back to what we thought was the obvious spot and after a third search pulled out the well hidden cache. Our GPs's were indicating 17m and 10 m from GZ so we took a range of readings with the average being S41 18.347 E147 12.477.
Thanks Hammer_Oz for an enjoyable caching experience. Cache and contents were in good condition.
Advice to hunters use GPS to get yourself into the area of GZ and then trust your caching instinct.

Hi Hammer_Oz
Woke early this morning, showered and headed to Launceston for an event in Trevallyn (to start at 0930hrs) at 0430hrs.
Arrived in Launceston round 0715hrs. Found and Sainted the first cache for the day at 0732hrs.
Arrived at Hollybank and Saint this cache at 1230hrs. The seventh for the day.
Enjoyed walking from where I parked the car to GZ. Like wise as I walked back to the cache mobile. The recent rain had freshened the whole area.
Lots of colourful leaves all over the ground.
It took me a lot longer to find the cache than I would have liked. Had a Mum and her children play in the area for a short time.
Some other muggles walked across the cricket field but didn't really worry me
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.

Hollybank was very quiet today giving us the opportunity to search freely. Identified a possible GZ according to the hint and soon had cache in hand. As expected the GPSr jumped around but settled on 8m. Autumn is a lovely time of the year to visit and enjoy the colourful leaves on display. FTF @ 10.30 hrs. Thanks Hammer_Oz.

An area that could accommodate a whole day of caching, I'll be back to drop more here for sure.
