Description

Once upon a time there was a village here.

Mount Boppy, also called Boppy Mount, was a village that lasted less than 10 years. It began to rise with the opening of a copper mine and construction of a railway line. When gold was discovered in small quantity and quality it grew even more. However, just 3 miles south, serious gold was hit and a rush followed. Almost every house, shop and hotel in Boppy Mount were pulled down and re-erected down the road. The railway buildings remained for a while, servicing what was a thriving town but is now the ghost town of Canbelego down the road.

In one old photo of the station (see photos in gallery) I noticed the water tower. Passing this weekend I wondered if you could see any foundations left where it stood.

...well you'll have to come find out for yourself.

A VERY nice cache. I wish most GC caches were as good. Reading the description took me straight to it, although my GPS was out, preferring S31° 31.882' E146° 16.752'. TFTC No Tomorrow.

#GA5814 - 12:30:00 PM; Taking the long way to Adelaide from the National Capital with the geohoney and after spending the night in Dubbo, we are headed for Cobar. Took a short detour to give this one a try and once near GZ, started the hunt. Almost gave up, particularly after seeing the latest attempt was a DNF. Decided to give it one more shot and spotted something suspicious near the bricks. Looks like the cache was buried when some work was done in the area since the last find. Managed to extract the cache and I can confirm all is in good nick and now awaits more successful finds! TFTC C○3 ♀ Ɛ○<<○3 Very HappyClan Cerberus

I couldn't find anything except thigh high grass. Wading through that I found no brick structures or anything remotely able to hide a cache. The coords took me to a tree, but it hid nothing either.

GCA 4,292. Found during our 2020 Outback Adventure tour.

Day 2 - and we drove from Warren over to Cobar. After heading up the nearby mountain it was time to grab this one. Parked nice and close to GZ for a quick find.

Thanks No_Tomorrow !!

West New South Wales trip 2020. Day 2. I was joined by MinnieK and Fitzy_1965 for a trip planned to go from
Goulburn to Forbes, Nyngen, Cobar, Broken Hill, Wentworth and Balranlad. After a sleep in we left our overnight
stop at Warren and headed to Cobar via Nyngen. There were a few caches along the way, but most of the action
was the Australian Towns series North of Cobar, and a great selection of local caches. The two Earth caches
were the highlight.

After ascending the peak of Mt Boppy, we found this great cache below it.

Thanks
Albida

When we were planning our trip we noticed that there were several GCA caches between Cobar and Nyngan. This was the first we looked for.

As we approached gz we noticed an interesting brick structure - originally base of the water tank?. Very soon after we had a nice sized, well stocked, cache container. We noticed our gps indicated we were 8m east of gz.

Thanks for the cache No_Tomorrow and for the information about the history of this area. We hope more cachers will stop to look for this cache and enjoy the area.
