Description

A kayak only cache on the beautiful Middle Harbour

Sea Forth & Conquer

Middle Harbour is a wonderful place to explore by kayak. There are many great spots to visit and now there are a number of GCA and GC caches to keep you occupied. While some are available with a bit of effort on foot, this cache (as far as I am aware) is only accessible via the water. There is a lovely little small sandy beach you can land at via canoe, kayak or small powered craft. The beach should be accessible even at high tide, though a half tide like when I landed would make things easier.

Once you have completed the Sea part of the cache, there is a short Conquer section which will require some scrambling. The cache is well above the high tide mark. Shouldn't be too hard, there is a spoiler photo in the gallery taken from GZ if you need it. Foot terrain is about a 2.5-3 depending on your approach. Good luck!

Did you know that NSW has a geocaching association? Geocaching NSW aims to enhance and improve the activity of geocaching and holds regular events where geocachers meet to enjoy their common interests. Visit the association website here.

25/9/16. 11:43 AM. GCA Cache #25.
Found during the GCNSW event, "The Spit Reserve - That's A Paddlin'".

In a group with Team Canary (x2), crash2079 & followed soon after by cachem8; this was our second stop after getting groundspeak cache "Point at Pickering" (which I'd already found in 2013). We arrived here just as Gaztek were leaving. Headed up for an easy find.

Everyone else continued north to gc cache "Kayak Haven", whereas I wanted a shorter paddle today so I cut across, solo, to the Castle Cove side to get "Kaboom Castle". TFTC.

My first long paddle with bikerbuddy and Toriaz. But, I had the company of my youngest son and a group of intrepid follow cachers.

We arrived after the first of the kayakers had made land and the find, so it was up to my son to take the scramble and sign the log.

TFTC.

Found during a very enjoyable GC NSW event "The Spit Reserve - That's a Paddlin". Being second to arrive, meant that our group's search wasn't too difficult or long. TFTC

A great morning for geocaching and getting together with other geocachers. We hired a kayak from the Spit and headed north with the GCNSW eventers.

We were the first to land and, like early explorers, covered a lot of territory - needlessly as it turned out. Just as others were arriving we returned to a place not far from the 'beach' and found the stash in a very logical place. SL TFTC Cheers... Gaztek

Another awesome location, a couple a fisher men across the cove and a nearby boat didn't faze me. They must have thought I was a little nuts, as there was no sandy beach in sight. I thought to myself this is going to be interesting finding a landing spot. But I'd come prepared for my circuit paddle for exactly these kinds of conditions. I managed to spot an oyster free rock that would do to beach the kayak, BUT, the water was quite high. The trusty volleys posed no problems, they were already wet. I hopped out pulled the kayak up on the algae covered rock started wading. The fishermen gave me a weird look but I ignored them, they were across the cove and couldn't follow. The ankle deep water got higher and higher until it was thigh deep, before I could get onto a rock and rock hop the rest of the way. No matter, I had the right gear on. I made my way to the right level, and found the cache in the first place I looked. Good one. Another FTF. Great views. I made my back back to the kayak and went for another refreshing wade before hopping back into the kayak. I certainly came by sea and conquered the tide and the hill.

Well snap! Just noticed my witty pun has already been used by the Zargfinders on a cache nearby... which I have found. Ooops!
