Description

A beautiful bush walk to the trailhead of Lake Eckersley.

This cache is hidden in a small pocket of land along the pipeline trail that falls outside of National Park boundaries, and was was hidden in order to qualify for the 1500m challenge (publish component) of GeosportZ 2016.

There are several ways to get here, but we suggest parking on Princes Highway at S34°06.108 E150°59.666 and following the Mirang Fire Trail. To find this cache alone, you're looking at a 7.2km return walk. It's fairly easy going that's quite hilly in places, but it's a beautiful walk and you'll be surrounded by wildlife and native flora including an abundance of Gymea Lilies, especially along the lower section of Mirang Fire Trail.

The cache is hidden close to the trailhead to Lake Eckersley, which is a stunning location on the banks of the Woronora River with camping available. It's only about 500m away and well worth the extra walk.

Had a nice walk along the pipeline to this spot and even though I saw the SPOR I disregarded it as it looked like it was meant to be there. Turns out it was just the right rock for the camp job. Thanks Hancock Clan.

What a beautiful day to go for a walk, GeoDirk and Jarrah were ordered to come along as they were the naughtiest during lunch. We followed the usual track: Oliver street, down the hill, turn left and start walking. This time it wasn't just the waterhouse, or the bridge, or the pools. No, it was further than we ever have been on this track. My surprise when we saw a wooden table in the forests and a leak in the waterpipe, which we reported to Sydney Water. All with all a great walk and worth it, again. TFTC!

Was in for a bit of a walk today and decided to pick up the remaining caches in Heatcote national park. started walking from the highway via the mirang rd firetrail. Lovely walk, but very humid today. Just before going up the hill and around the bend to reach this cache, I had to take of my shoes and handle the flooding! Cache was found quickly and only the second to do so!

I approached GZ from Woronora Dam Rd and having done Flying Monks, it did not take long on the mtn bike to cover the 4 or so km to Lake Ekersley. Nice down hill ride. I locked my bike up here not 5m from GZ, also saw a baby eastern brown snake slither off into the scrub. Hmmm this took longer to find than I thought it would. I checked both sides and came up empty handed. I have no idea what the hint was refering to and after my 3 trip to the other side something else caught my eye and I uncovered the well concealed cache. Yeah FTF.
