Description
In honour of our Chinese immigrants.
This shrine was originally in the centre of the Chinese section and used by the community as a shrine for funeral ceremonial purposes. This was one of the earliest Chinese societies in the state of New South Wales. Up until the 1950s, the society helped with the exhumation of Chinese graves from Rookwood Cemetery for reburial in China, in accordance with the beliand practices of the community.
One of the most famous Chinese immigrants buried at Rookwood is Mei Quong Tart (1850–1903) was a leading nineteenth century Sydney merchant from China. He was one of Sydney's most famous and well-loved personalities and made a significant impact on the social and political scene of Sydney at a time of strong anti-Chinese sentiment in Australia.
A prominent businessman, he owned a network of tearooms in the Sydney Arcade, the Royal Arcade and King Street. His crowning success was the ‘Elite Hall’ in the Queen Victoria Market, now the Queen Victoria Building. He was also a community leader, well connected with the local political and social elites.

After finishing off all the GC caches and grabbing the 3 moveables in the area, we tackled the 2 GCA Multis. We laughed as we revisited several locations in doing them. A quick search at GZ revealed the cache - Phew ! Rookwood cleaned out - for now !
TFTC Tronador !!
I left a Bookcrossing book. Arrowed in photograph.

These multis just keep getting better! At WP1 we spent some time admiring the structure from all angles and taking photos before I remembered we needed to collect some info. With GZ calculated it was off to make the find which was a quick one as I could just see the cache poking out of its hiddy hole. Signed the log and returned the cache with some more camo.
Thanks for another great multi tronador, what a beautiful structure.

Nice to find the prize not too far away from wp1
Loved the little Chinese pagoda thing close by.
I knew something was afoot when he changed our usual lunch date from Penrith to Lidcombe!
We did make it to lunch in Parramatta a bit later.
Thanks for highlighting a few intersecting places here. Loved it!
Headed down towards another goal but as we went past we decided to grab this one first. Had a couple of 'moments' with the calculations but once that was sorted we arrived at GZ and made a quick find. Log signed and cache replaced and we moved off in search of a few moveables....
Thanks Tronador.....another neat little multi in this part of the cemetery.
Thanks for the cache and the history lesson.
