Description

Join the itty-bitty city art quest

Pocket-Sized Precincts is a treasure hunt across the city of Sydney that aims to bring attention to local businesses, local green spaces and promote an interest in art through direct interaction.

Pocket-Sized Precincts is free and open to all members of the community. Participants can enter either as an individual or as a team. We will clearly identify which parks and businesses are fully accessible to families, the elderly and for those with mobility issues and will endeavour to make it as accessible as possible.

Pocket-Sized Precincts is environmentally friendly. We encourage participants to walk, ride or take public transport.

The 2016 event runs from September 24 - October 9, but the cache will be available year round.

To find out more about the trail and the associated competition visit:

www.pocketsizedprecincts.com

For those that are able to complete the journey and visit all the locations, we'd love to see photos of your favourite artworks in your logs.

The cache is hidden at the final park in the Pocket-Sized Precincts journey in a small patch of green known by the locals at The Paddock. It was near here in 1900 that the source of the Bubonic Plague was isolated. Residents were rushed to the Quarantine Station and most of the timber buildings in the vicinity were burned to the ground. The site was cleared and flattened to the level of Downshire Street and a grassed area created. It became known as The Paddock and the local children have played here ever since, even to the present day.

The current version of the park "...has been landscaped and levelled, planted with new trees and handed back to the community by Mirvac and Transfield continuing the tradition of the Paddock for future generations" in 2002.

The cache container has a bit of an arty feel in keeping with the theme of the event. Please look after it!

Logs

There has been nothing to find for some years, so we'll archive this listing to stop it turning up in the search lists.

This cache has been now disabled for longer than 90 days.

Unfortunately, the cache will be archived in 28 days if the listing is not re-enabled. This is done to keep the Geocaching Australia database clean and up to date.

We hope the cache can be re-enabled so that cachers can head to find the cache….and enjoy a visit to the area.

Searched all the garden beds and corners and went to PAF and still no joy. Looks like it was a walk to here for no purpose. Unfortunately it does look like this is missing.

This cache has ended up being a lot of waiting. Came in while I was off work for a while caught the train to Central where I headed into Pyrmont and spent some time getting some caches and virtuals around there. Then decided to head in this direction to get the new bridge virtual and stopped here on the way back. Got to the park but each time I went to reach for the cache a new group entered and I moved away. After 15 minutes I finally got the cache. Took it over to the bench where I sat down & signed the log. It then took the same dance of about 10 minutes to replace the cache. When I got home I needed a card in my main camera as a spare and took it out of my little camera I took into town. A friend then borrowed the camera for a week & by then senility was grabbing my memory & hiding them all over the place. Came across the card while sorting something else & was reminded that I hadn't logged anything from that day. Thanks for the cache ziggiau. It was a bit damp but while I was waiting to replace it I dried it out.

Out and about in town after checking out Barangaroo which I hadn't visited before. Made my way to the park and spotted a playground in use. Dang. But following the arrow took me past that and reasonably out of sight. Nothing in the first spot I looked but a previous log gave a hint and had cache in hand immediately afterwards. Signed and replaced unseen, then it was off up the hill for a beer at the Harbour View Hotel before a couple more finds. Thanks ziggiau.

I needed the photo clues to help as the GPS was all over the place. Not the highest scoring cache but some more points towards the Christmas in July event! Nice little park I've visited caching a few times over the years. Great to NOT find another micro Wink All is well here, cheers Ziggi!

#GA1752 - 13:15; In Sydney with the geohoney for the weekend and after a late breakfast, she headed into the CBD for some retail therapy, while I headed off to one of my favorite parts of the city to collect some new caches which have appeared since my last visit. After collecting a couple of caches near the Observatory, made my way down the hill and after taking a wrong turn near the Heroes of Waterloo, back tracked and made it to GZ. Found the cache once I stepped up to the task in the second place I looked. Another nice spot tucked away in The Rocks. TFTC ziggiau Very HappyClan Cerberus

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1531. Walking around the rocks area during a work visit.

Keeping my GCA streak going - getting close to that next target of 90 days in a row - today I was staying nearby and having dinner and a drink at the Admiral Nelson was too good an opportunity to try for this one. So much history in the area with lots of plaques to read. Made a quick find on the nicely hidden cache. Signed the log, replaced the cache. Great view of the Bridge during Vivid from here. Another find for me and Clan Cerberus ! Yah !

TFTC !!

What a great little spot for a cache. Hadn't been in this stretch of town in years, but the lure of a close cache was too great. After a quick walk down to the park we waited for the GPSr to settle and made a quick muggle free find.

19:30 Thought no one had found it yet despite it having been placed months ago, but it turns out two other people just haven't logged it on the site yet. (brismaniacs and boxhill, you got my hopes up and everything!! :p)
Saw a skateboarder making sparks at the bottom of the road nearby - so cool!
