Description

Lighthouses of NSW - Sugarloaf Point Lighthouse

The Sugarloaf Lighthouse was completed in 1875, ten years after it was first recommended a light be placed to highlight the nearby Seal Rocks. It was originally intended to place the light on Seal Rocks but landing was difficult the proposition was abandoned.

One of Australia's biggest shipping disasters occurred of Sugarloaf Point;- the wreck of the Catterthun in 1895 when bound from Sydney to China with the loss of fifty five lives.

We've been staying in Blueys Beach and decided to visit Seal Rocks on a windy afternoon. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit, from the walk through the forest, the blowhole and the spectacular views. Enroute I had discovered that there were some GCA caches (making up for the lack of GC caches). I took the attached picture from the signal point. TFTV

We did a day drive from Booti Booti NP to Seal Rocks. Headed up to look at this lighthouse. While we were there we spotted some birds flying around we hadnt seen before. They were White-throated Needletails. I love finding new birds especially in picturesque locations. TFTC

A road trip up in the Great Lakes district not been here before but the weather wasn't really nice to be doing caching. In a break in the weather came to looking for the cache and then visited the Lighthouse & found the trig, virtual & the traditional.

Staying at Treachery Camp and drop by to find the GA caches around the lighthouse. Extremely windy and rainy, but managed to duck out with the team during a mild reprieve in the morning weather. Found the lighthouse trig, virtual and traditional during our stay.

We're staying in Pacific Palms for a few days on the way home from a trip to Qld and this afternoon went for a drive down to Seal Rocks. I was disappointed there were no GC caches here but also pleasantly surprised to find there waa not 1 but 3 GCA caches up for grabs.

Thoroughly enjoyed our lighthouse visit and actually stayed longer than intended. Thanks for the cache.
