Description

Lighthouses of NSW - Point Perpendicular Lighthouse

Built to replace the Cape St George Lighthouse, the Point Perpendicular Lighthouse is believed to be the first lighthouse in New South Wales to be built of concrete blocks, which were cast on the ground, then lifted into place.

Most of the stores and materials for the new lighthouse were landed at Bindijine Wharf, constructed in 1898, on Honeymoon Bay inside the sheltered side of Jervis itself. They were then carted by house and cart to Point Perpendicular.

Height: 21 metres
Elevation: 93 metres
Pattern: Group Flashing (3) in 20 seconds
Range: 26 nautical miles / 42 km

Photo: Annette Flotwell

Fun fact: The window above the main door is interesting as it displays the Waratah, the state flower of New South Wales, and the construction date of the tower.

For more information, see Point Perpendicular Lighthouse at lighthouses.org.au.

Third attempt at this one. Last year it was close due to COVID and the year before the fires closed the area.

Well, I decided to snap a pic from a lower angle here today. Unfortunately my usual captain busy couldn't come with me but I did have another captains company, abs a lot of other people. Great cruise tour looking around the area from the water.

Out for an explore on Beecroft Peninsula today we were excited to see a few caches on the way. We have been here before a few times but always love how dramatic the coastline is. Cheers

This was one of our two real targets today. We spent quite a while here taking photos. We were annoyed with a group of people who decided to be outside the fence to take their photos as we didn't want them in our photos.
Thanks for the virtual Team MavEtJu.

Awesome spot with a great Lighthouse and associated buildings. Looks like a popular spot for rock climbing and abseiling if you have the nerve for it.

Was a bit daunted by the boom gate here but approached and the Wilson security muggle, after taking Mr Beetle's driver's licence details, sent us on our way. No fee either which was a surprise.
The road to GZ was gravel but a bit corrugated. Been down worse though in the pursuit of geocaches.
What a contrast between the last lighthouse we went to [Crookhaven] and this one. What a majestic building and such a beautifully maintained area.
After checking out the area and grabbing the required photo we went and watched the abseilers. Those guys are crazy, and the way they scramble back up was impressive.
Thanks for bringing us to this awesome spot.

Waymarking the old lighthouse for the new category - Australian Heritage Sites. Also "found" several other waymarks & visited an existing one. As usual didn't remember to take a photo of myself or my Garmin but do appreciate your series. According to SIX one of these lighthouses is a trig. A chilly wind compared to a balmy Sunday. Naval vessel at sea. Thanks.

Woohoo! FTF while claiming the nearby traditional cache as our 5000th GC find!!! Very Happy I can see why this cache took so long to be found - the gravel road was so bumpy and so badly maintained, that we had to spend about 30min driving in first gear along the road. There's fixing it up on Monday, so for future finders, that might be much better - because we have a very small car, it would have been better for the state of our tyres and steering wheels in case they became damaged during the drive (which thankfully, they didn't). Awesome and original design for the lighthouse surrounded by a great view. TFTC Team MavEtJu! Clan Cerberus
