Description

The National Aboretum = lots and lots of trees....and lots of spots with great views over Canberra, so if you haven't already done so, come on up and have a look.

Park at S35 17.308 E149 03.778 and you'll almost be on top of the cache.    From there, walk over to GZ, where you should be able to guess where the cache is, but the muggles on a busy day (weekend mainly) will be your biggest concern.    Take a look around before you go in for the find....sign the log and then return the cache when no-ones else is around.

To ensure the cache remains........stealth is the name of the game here........hence the 3 star difficulty.

With a D1T5 CITO on in Canberra I decided that today I would do a day trip over. Johno, why didn’t you just stay a little longer over there after the Geobash? Because I had things to do at home and wanted some time with my [muggle] family and friends during my annual leave. So I made my way over there and after having breakfast, I headed off to go Geocaching. Due to the bad weather, I decided it was going to be a great day to find those caches within high muggle areas. It was a great idea because there wasn’t any muggles around. Yes, I got very wet throughout the morning and once it was about 1pm I started to dry off, because the rain stopped. I then found a couple of more caches before heading to the CITO. Once at the CITO, it was great fun cleaning up the pond and catching up with everyone. I then headed off to get dinner and afterwards headed home. TB visit. A big thanks to the CO for adding this cache to game for the Geocaching community to enjoy. Big Grin TFTE & TFTC’s! Big Grin

Given I was up here finding some GC caches, I decided on also finding this one. I have visited this one a few times in the past but always with too many muggles nearby to make the grab. However for today, given the rain no muggles were around. So I quickly made the grab and signed it within a minute. Then I was off to the next one. Big Grin

Out for a walk around the arboretum this morning, including up to the top of the hill. Getting good enough at phone caching now to actually run both the GCA app and GC app at the same time, and spot this cache! A quick detour, and it was done. Now if only the GCA app let me do field notes..

TNLN - Thanks Sol de Lune!

Day 12 Mainland trip
Out and about caching with Tassie Trekkers finding caches and this was one found. A lovely area and great views. TFTC

What a beautiful view this early in the morning.... peaceful too apart from the whirring of bicycle dogs as a few cyclists struggled up the hill. Funny to hear them breathing so heavily too. Anyway cache found and log signed. TFTC

Another great day out caching with Joolay after more points in the current game. Thanks to Minniek for the trail up Mt Stromlo and SDL for all his scattered around the area this being one of them. We continued on and found a few trigs then topped the day off with a stash of movables. All logs were signed and cache returned to their hidey holes. Dancing Clapping DancingDancingClapping

My third attempt at this one. Firstly it wasn't there, then next time a muggle wouldn't move on after more than 30 minutes! Today another muggle right at GZ, but only stayed 5-6 minutes after which I made the quick find.

Thanks,

For some reason I never seem to get around to checking for GA caches until I have found all the GC ones and find myself back there with spare time... so... came for the trig that i hadn't realised was a trig, and to check if this was the GA cache I vaguely remember finding with someone else (and forgot to go online and log)... it wasn't... not a lot of people have found this... and the most recent signature on the log sheet is exactly 11 months ago... so it is nice that I gave it some love/made it feel wanted Smile
TFTC - nice spot to sit and type my log in the app too (windy, but not cold... yet Smile
Muggles were not a problem... crowded down ar the Cafe but not so much up here in the wind... and plenty of time to do my thing in between cars...

Had to sit in the car half an hour waiting for someone to finish their lunch break or something. She was parked nose in to the best spot. Finally got it.

I'm feeling real well so I don't think I'll get around to doing anywhere near as many GCA caches as I hoped this trip. Could be forever before I get back too. Sorry.

I picked up a few caches with Joolay and Aakayem after the post-event coffee/lunch today. Freezing cold so called it early. Wonderful views across to the Brindabellas and the approaching storm. Cache in good condition. Thanks again SDL

Found after the Singing in the rain event at the aboreteum. It was a freezing cold day and would have like to stay out longer to do things but just too cold. Found with Kittykatch and Akayam

Had a surprise afternoon at the zoo as a reward for hard work with the Property Management team. fitzy_1965 picked me up and we detoured up here for a quick find before the arboretum closed.

Turns out the cache was not there. SadSad

Have replaced it with a preform tube that is tucked in the same place but can not be seen. You'll have to feel for it now.

Please ensure it is out of sight when it's return to avoid it being spotted by an over zealous work person.

Cache on....

Looked in the usual spots, but couldn't find it...

We always enjoy visiting the arboretum. The elevations give great views over the countryside and the city and the varying colours of the extensive plantings are beautiful.

Today we heading up to catch up with two local cachers and were earl ier than planned. So when finding yourself with some spare time what do you do? Look for a nearby cache or two of course and this is what we did.

We stopped not far from this cache and soon had located the cache in a familiar spot. Container and contents were in very good condition. The views from this spot are very nice. We had been lucky to have this spot to ourselves while we searched however as we were about to leave several cars pulled in and a few muggles tubbled out. It was really time to head off.

Thanks for another cache with an excellent view Sol de LUNE.

Found on a great day of caching to relax after the end of test week at college. After reaching the top of the hill, I walked over to GZ where - surprisingly - it took a little longer to find than usual with these type of hides. Not an issue in the end though - found, signed and replaced. Beautiful views from all places at the Arboretum, including here. After finding, it was off to find the other cache titled 'The National Aboretum.' Wink TFTC SdL! Clan CerberusClan CerberusClan Cerberus

probably picked the wrong day. it was windy and busy. I sat on to of the cache and waited, while enjoying the view. eventually the coast became clear enough for me to grab it. From there it was just a wait again to put it back. TFTC Sol De lune.

came here to grab Dairy Farmers Hill trig and saw this one nearby. Nice easy find. Thanks

FINALLY!!

It's only taken me several attempts to get here - I never DNF'd because I never got as far as trying to find it - too many people!

However, I finished my end of session exam, and decided to do some caches - with this being on the way.

Arrived at GZ (parked literally next to it), and with only one car in that bay, I knew I had a good shot. Found quickly enough - though a few more possible hidey-holes than your normal conflaguration.

Thanks SDL for the cache, and a more general thank you for your dedication to GCA, and increasing the count of quality caches in the ACT =] Clan CerberusClan Cerberus

GCA 1306 - 14356. I wanted to grab a GCA today and with the fast approaching storm I wanted a Drive-By.

This was pretty close to one - and in a familiar location. Great views of the storm from here.

We had afternoon tea at the local cafe and then continued up the hill to log this and the nearby trig. Always good to see the view from here. TFTC Sol de lune.

#GA1062 - 17:25; I was at the movies last night when these were published, but it was past my bedtime by then anyway. No such problem this afternoon, although the weather looked threatening and there were a few showers on and off as I made my way around the CO's newer caches and a couple of slightly older ones. After a short sharp climb on Mt Taylor, it was back down and along the parkway to the Arboretum. The climb was much easier than expected as I was able to park the geomobile quite close to GZ for a quick park and grab on this one. Great views up here, which helped as they were distracting a couple of muggles at the other end of the parking area near GZ. TFTC Sol de lune Very HappyClan Cerberus

Thanks for another one Sdl.

Chooo ooo *FTF* on a lovely Sunday morning! Seems there had been some rain overnight, and everything was clean and fresh! The views here were great! I could tell, as an artist had set up an easel, and was painting it! Nice quick find, coordinates all good. Thanks SDL.
