#GA2315 - 17:30; When the States of the Nation game began, a plan was hatched for a group of ACT cachers to take a trip north to the Hawkesbury on a scavenger raid. As time passed the group's numbers dwindled, but with a bit of work solving puzzles and a few things rescheduled, our merry band comprising andrewbt, Sol de lune and I set off on a damp Canberra morning to try our hand. A recent visit to Canberra by cachers from this area provided an added incentive, so we could repay the karma points we gained from their visit. A successful day it turned out to be with 56 finds and only three DNFs. After a nice quick find and sign over the road, this one provided a bit more of a challenge. One of our merry band decided things could be done without the tool we brought with us just for this cache. Gravity had other ideas and while he recovered his composure the remaining pair made the find with the aid of the tool. A nice one which had been high on the 'to do' list for us this trip. Now for the reverse cache, another with a high 'to do' rating as it is one of three remaining cache types I have yet to conquer TFTC Splitty Miller JJCC

Came prepared just in case...and a good thing. The first attempt at retrieval ended in disaster (for one of us) so the required TOTT was brought out and all was good. Log was signed in situ and then we packed up our equipment and moved on.
All ended well, so all was good.
Thanks Splitty Miller JJCC...neat hide.

54 of 56 today
We spied GZ. I said "we don't need no stinkin tool!"
I tried to amble up the stump, stump gave way, i slipped. Shoulder went click, got stabbed in guts with broken wood.
Ruh roh. Went into shock, oh dear. I felt fine! Body had other ideas.. sat around for 5 minutes feeling a bit dizzy and seeing stars.
I knew I was fine, just a bit embarrased, just rode it out with a bottle of water. Got the tool out and SDL and LL retrieved cache

We located the area for this hide and looking around spotted the object where the cache was most likely hidden. Fortunately, when we travel we always carry specialist equipment needed to retrieve caches like this one. As there was noone around we were able to quickly utilise our special equipment to locate the cache. The log was signed and the container returned safely out of sight Container and log were in good condition.
Thanks for a challenging little cache Splitty Miller JJCC and for a cache that meets a D/T rating that we did not have.

Last time I came out this way, I was alone & not equipped for this cache. I wasn't any better equipped today, but I wasn't alone. I parked next to the object, thinking that maybe we could use the car, but instead, bikerbuddy climbed up unaided and retrieved it for me. All that effort & he doesn't even log GCA caches!
Thanks
Thanks
First time I came here I didn't have anyway of reaching the cache with me this time I had a different idea after driving right up to the hide and getting to the correct level. Signed the log and replaced for the next hider. Thanks for the cache Splitty Miller JJCC

In lieu of a ladder, there is always the car. Just a matter of backing it up carefully. Kids thought this was a bit of fun.

I didn't read any cache notes before heading out, so didn't realise I needed some special equipment here. Next time...
In past days whilst scavenging I had been past this location and realised that equipment I do not carry was needed. Today in my other vehicle (wagon) I carried the special equipment needed. On parking at GZ I set up the special equipment and soon had the cache in hand. I signed the log and replaced as found. Then retrieved my special equipment before moving onto my next target. tftc

Well this took a while! We swung by a few days ago (after an hour's drive) to check out what was needed here. Oh. OK.
So today we were back with the required equipment. It was a 2.5 hour round trip for this and the cache signing took round about, oh 30 seconds maybe? Still, we got to stop by the Glenorie cake shop to have lunch of the best pie and cake in Australia.

After driving passed last week decided a larger/higher tool was going to be needed. Fast forward to this morning and we had the alternate TOT with us, so another check was made. Combined with our elevated status this proved to be all that was going to be needed as on closer inspection we spied what we were after...which we duly signed and carefully replaced. Another scavenge of the Summer Scavenger Series ticked off.

FTF! I had arranged to grab some special equipment after work today in order to grab this cache. However before I picked it up in did a recky of GZ and determined equipment I already had would suffice. I donned my safety gear and was quickly at the peak. There your are! Nice little micro, not a nano. Special equipment is definitely recommended but I think the D rating can drop a bit. Once you bring your gear and get to GZ the find is simple, more like a D2 than D4. Cheers for the scavenger assist, really cool little cache.
