Description

The Reid Reserve in West Ulverstone is a 2.6ha fragment of Black Peppermint Coastal Forest. It provides important habitat for numerous native plants, animals and fungi.

This multicache will take you on a wander of The Reid Street Reserve. As well as the inperpretation signs, you should notice that it is a healthy forest of layered vegetation - canopy, mid-storey, understory and groundcover - which provide habitat and niches for a wide variety of birds, native animals flowering plants and fungi.

At WP1 (S41 09.123  E146 08.906, the published coordinates) you will find a plaque commemorating the opening of the refurbished Reid Street Reserve,

  • A = the day the plaque was unveiled
  • B = the month (as a number) when the plaque was unveiled

At the same point you will find the interpretation sign "The Importance of Small Reserves"

  • C = number of fungi shown in the photographs
  • D = the number of letters in the last word in the botanic name of the "erect currant bush"

Nearby at WP2 (S41 09.127  E146 08.895) you will find the original Reid Street Reserve Sign

  • E = the number of words in the last line

Continue to WP3 (S41 09.192  E146 08.910) where you will find the interpretation sign "A Haven For Migratory Birds"

  • F = the number of cuckoos in the photographs
  • G = last digit in the phone number

The last waypoint is WP4 (S41 09.230  E146 08.958) where you will find the interpretation sign "Tasmania's Special Birds"

  • H = the number of birds named in the last paragraph

The coordinates for GZ are

S 41 0A.CED  E146 0B.GFH

If required, there is a Coordinate Checker in the Actions Menu at the top right of the cache description.

Enjoy your walk through the Reid Street Reserve.

last time we followed this multi, the bonus cache at the end was not home. The CO's have since replaced with a very satisfactory item which is hidden exactly where it should be. So we are pleased to add this to our slowly increasing GA tally. Thanks for your house keeping activities here 2y'stassies. Clan MinotaurSmile

Checked this one today and it is indeed missing. Didn't have an appropriate sized container so left a small sistema as a temproary replacement until a large one can be sourced.

Moving on to the Reid Reserve now after other finds nearby. However, after doing the necessaries and visiting the various WP's there appears to be a dearth of caches at GZ. Being a regular size, we don't think we have missed it, but you never know ! TFTMC and walk.

Back again to this reserve. I should have done more homework so I wasn’t retracing my steps . I enjoyed the walk again this time in drier weather. A well hidden cache in good condition TFTC

Tonight while out taking the dog for a walk we targeted a few caches in the nearby area that we hadn’t yet completed we managed to attempt 5 caches before it got too dark, with 2 finds and 3 DNF’s.
We walked through the park tonight gathering the required information along the way to gain the final co-ordinance. With the final co-ordinance on hand it was off to ground zero where a fast and easy find was made and the logbook was signed. TFTC Clan Cerberus

Got out and about today to see if I could see if I could log as many caches around Ulverstone I could that I haven't found yet.
Finally pulled my finger out and took a stroll around the reserve. Gathered the required information from the signs and zeroed in on the final destination. A quick find was made and I was on my way. TFTMC Clan Cerberus

Decided to tackle this one today as we needed to find a multi cache and a large one brings more points. We'd been to this reserve caching several times before but hadn't given this one a go. A windy day today but quite warm in amongst the bush, had no difficulty finding the information required and then made an easy find of a really good sized container. Thanks 2y'stassies for another great cache

Wow. I went for the answers and had half of the coordinates done when I got a call from old saint. He had the cache. Better luck than skill.

Just as well this was a simple straight forward multi as it was a bit difficult juggling 2 dogs on leads, the GPS, a pen and paper between waypoints. Especially when the dogs found numerous imaginary beasts they needed to chase.
The cache was quickly located at the final but unfortunately we picked up a lot of 'buzzies' near it which had to be removed before the dogs went home. We have enough of them on our own farm without importing more seed!!!!
Have cached in the lower half of this reserve before but never been to the top.
Thanks.

Out and about for the Clan Minotaur Summer Scavenger Series 2016/17 Clan Minotaur and enjoyed the wander through this reserve.

A straightforward multi and quick find due to accurate co ordinates.

Thanks 2y'stassies for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

We enjoyed our walk around this reserve, thanks for sharing it with us. The steps seemed familiar though, maybe done a cache near here in the past. TFTM

Thought I'd try this one this arvo. Had slight hiccup...as didn't read a letter properly..so back tracked to sort out.
With final coords in hand soon found cache all tucked away. Chock full of goodies as usual. Now to get back up the hill....had a few stops but made it easily enough....very good exercise.
Thoroughly enjoyed the multi...no other logs so FTF an absolute bonus.
TFTEC 2y's....cheers ST. ClappingDancingClappingClappingClapping
