Description

The Sail and the Small [SSS]

The Sail and the Small [SSS] is a small geocache hidden for the Summer Scavenger Series.

The sail is a strange piece of psuedo artwork which forms part of the sound barrier along the Western Freeway Path. A piece of steel structure high above the rest of the wall, this sail stands out as you drive along the freeway and walk along the path. I wonder what will happen should the winds pick up to over 100km? Maybe the sait will set sail.

The geocache you are looking for is a 400ml sistema container. It's not magnetic but I wish it was. Either way the place that you will find the geocache should mean it's secure from all the elements.

Today we cached along the Western Fwy Path and found your cache along the way. Cache and contents were in good condition.

Many thanks GabGab for placing this cache.

A lovely afternoon for a walk along this trail.
My second find out here today.
Not many muggles about makes for nice straight forward finds.
Cache in good order. Thanks for the hide, Gab Gab.

I decided to continue exploring the western bike trails... this time the Western Freeway was my target, so I caught the train to Sunshine to ride the last section of the Kororoit Creek before continuing westward.

A fine evening, and a mostly successful hunt (apart from a couple of fruitless scrambles in the bushes), and edging closer to the 10% target I want to maintain.

Thanks, GabGab.

A nice sized cache with clear hints. No problems finding this.

#GA1836 - 08:58; Day two of a caching mission to Victoria with Sol de lune. Our major goal for the week is to complete the SSS and other series along the Western Freeway/Ring Road and to then collect enough GCA caches around Docklands to bring our total finds for the day to 100+ which would build our trophy cabinets a bit more as we complete a few more 'missions'. This was one of 82 finds in just under 6 hours along the various series, where we only had the one DNF! Apologies for the mostly generic logs. TFTC GabGab Very HappyClan Cerberus

An unplanned opportunity for LuckyL10n and I to head south for a 5 day caching run arose and was too good a chance to slip by, so plans were made and we headed to Creswick yesterday. Plan for day one was to ride the bike paths of the Western Ring road before heading into Docklands for a few more there.

We parked nearby to this cache and started our ride here, heading out bound on this leg before swinging back to complete the rest. All went well, with only 1 DNF (GA9922 Tall Fencing) which certainly seemed to be missing. Another couple were found away from their GZ co-ords, but that was put down to an animal not being happy. They were replaced in at GZ, as per their hint, so no problems with them.

All up it took 6 hours to ride the entire circuit, including a 30 or so minute break for a feed at a conveniently located HJ 'restaurant'. Once this series was finished, and as per our plan, we headed into Docklands where another 18 or so were found before dark and then heading back to our digs at Creswick.

Thanks to Gab Gab (and C@W) for the series. A lot of fun, and a lot of riding...which hasn't been done in a while.

We had arrived in Melbourne early to catch the Spirit of Tasmania back to Tassie tonight. That gave us the opportunity to look for more caches along the Western Ring Path, ones that we didn't find in April because we ran out of time. We were pleased that the rain of yesterday had gone and, apart from a cold breeze, the walking conditions were very pleasant. Accurate coordinates and the hint led to a quick find. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks GabGab for the cache and the series.

Next stop up the path.

Nice view of the cars sailing past today.

Nice spot for a hide too.

Nice quick find for me.

A small. Better than a micro or a nano. A nice area to go strolling around in on a warm evening. The grass had been recently mowed so there was no issue in getting across to this cache without a show full of greass seeds. That may not last with the warm wet weather at the moment, but it was nice this evening.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks for this geocache here GabGab.
