Description

A "Paddock Art" tourist trail

Black Bunny and I were heading back to Canberra when we came across this interesting trail of paddock art.  Having passed the frog many times on caching trips (there is even a Driver Reviver station here) we decided that this series of scuptures was worth examining a little more closely.

Animals on Bikes is a 120km "Paddock Art" sculpture tourist trail located in Central NSW between Molong and the Dubbo Zoo, via Cumnock and Yeoval.

Animals on Bikes started as a series of 45 creative 2 metre high sculptures (and smaller letter boxes) - created by local farmers, farmers wives, Men's sheds, busdriver, Preschool kids, Playgroup mums - anyone with an artistic flair! That was 2009, now there are over 100 sculptures on display!

The starting point is S33° 5.355’ E148° 51.876’ and head for Dubbo via Cumnock and Yeoval (or the reverse if you wish).

To claim this cache simply take a photo of yourself and one of the animals on the tour and add any interesting highlights from your journey.  We hope you enjoy the drive and be careful on country roads.

Geocachers are welcome to download the following before they leave home:

1. Tourist Map (1 page)

2. Tourist Map with sculpture description (2 pages - created in 2013)

3. Detailed "Animals on Bikes" description with tourism information (12 pages - created in 2013)

4. Family Eye Spy Quiz game. (4 pages - only 44 sculptures - created in 2009)

I decided a weekend dash north to finish my inland NSW counties was in order. The aim was Brewarrina for the two Earth Caches. Day 2. After a coolish night I was up and away fairly quickly. I am planning on doing most of the GC caches on my return journey, but I stopped at several GCA caches and even a run of Trigs West of Walgett. The day turned out quiet warm and I camped by the banks of the Barwon River just out of Brewarrina.

These sculptures are interesting, and I could not go past the first one.

Thanks
Albida

This was my favourite find today as we travelled north to Tamworth. What a great collection of sculptures. The road to Dubbo from here is definitely on my to-do list. Thanks Justa Cacher for drawing this to my attention. DancingDancingClan CerberusClan Cerberus

This was to be the only set of sculptures we were to see today as our route took us from Canberra to Tamworth. Thanks for this cache Just a cacher. Clan CerberusClan Cerberus Smittengranny wanted me out of the car but we needed to keep moving.

We didn't take the road past all the sculptures so GrimRaider and I snapped a photo of the frog at the start. So hot today and great to pick up a quick cache. TFTC

A big day of caching between Orange and Wellington and back. Great weather, able to squeeze in a parkrun as well and caches were all found straight forward.

We had a delightful day finding all the sculptures along the way from Dubbo to Molong. This photo is Mrs GT54 and the very last sculpture for the day before heading to the showgrounds in our geo caravan for a well earned rest. TFTC Very HappyClan MinotaurClan Minotaur

#GA3261 - 11:20; A plan was concocted with Sol de lune to hit the road for a few days to try and work out whether it really is the destination or the journey. We hit the road early on day one as we headed for Dubbo via Canowindra, Manildra, Yeoval and Narromine. After a couple of stops on the way through Canowindra, then Manildra, we grabbed a snap of some animals on bikes as we passed through Cumnock. Spotted a few more along the road as we headed towards Yeoval too! TFTC Just a cacher Very HappyClan Cerberus

Missed getting this on our last visit to Molong but this time we remembered. Would love to see the sculpture trail one day but today wasn't going to be that day. TFTC Just a cacher.

I was on a 6 day country caching and trigging trip that my year 3 students helped me to plan. It was their job to find towns to visit that had trigs as well as suggest interesting things to do. One of them was to take photos of these sculptures. I took plenty of shots!

Love this frog. It's a wonderful example of the creativity oozing out of people in out of the way places.

The other installations here are magic too.

Well there was certainly some junk here but what great junk it was. Mr Beetle was most impressed by the giant motorbike. We didn't have time to do the trail so our photo is only of the frog at the starting GZ. If this is not acceptable please feel free to delete our log. Thanks for bringing us to such an interesting place.

Thanks so much for this awesome virtual Just A Cacher. We took the children to Dubbo Zoo. We stayed at Macquarie Woods (Orange) and met a lady who was telling us about the Animals on Bikes of which we had no knowledge of. We were going to head via Wellington and on to Dubbo but after hearing about the animals we had to go and see. So far we had had the best trip seeing hay bales made into bikes, tractors, castles and many other creative things when we went through the Barry area. It was well worth venturing on through to Dubbo via Cumnock and spotting the animals, we had an amazing trip. There were surely some beauties along the road, I took photos of every animal, now I can't decide which one to post here.
