Description

CCC07 - The Long Bench

A weekend stroll or roll along Newquay Promenade will have you passing many restaurants, coffee shops, ice-creameries and other tasty places to nom into some lunch, dinner or, just enjoy eating for hell of it. Along the way you may need to take some of that newly acquired weight off your feet so the long bench is exactly what is suggest; a very long bench seat. However this bench seat has a secret. There is a ledge under the long bench which is a perfect height for a brown 200ml sistema container. Where you can find it along the long bench however may have you seeking for a long time as the long bench is quite long. You can get a wheelchair up into the area where the geocache is located but there is no way that the geocache can be reached from that position. Hands and knees are the activity for this geocache site so this site is kid accessible and handy.

Great weather for a walk and a few caches. There were a few people close to GZ but I picked my moment and went in for the find.

Thanks c@w

I traveled back home to SA from Perth for family reasons and decided that Melbourne is only a short hop from Adelaide, so I logged an attendance at the Parkville Mega event and headed over for 5 days in Melbourne. I hired an E bike and had it for 4 days so was able to get around to many places and grab lots of caches as well as biking from the Youth Hostel in North Melbourne to Parkeville which was only a short ride. I arrived Thursday arvo and headed into the cbd from North Melbourne for a quick look around and then back to the Hostel I was too early to pick up the bike so jumped on a tram and headed to the docklands and grabbed some caches in the area. I can not believe how much the CBD and docklands has changed since we were here about 5 years ago. This cache was a very easy find and not even a muggle anywhere to be seen. Great hide and still in good condition. Sat here for a minute or two to enjoy the view.

Thanks for the cache and bringing me here Caughtatwork. ClappingClappingClan Minotaur

Out for an evening stroll in the city after a weekend keeping an eye on the kids while the better half escaped for some Mother's Day fun.

Thanks, C@W... I thought at first I'd bomb out on this as the cafe shelters are up due to the change in weather. But it was quiet where I needed it to be, and the cache was sitting there waiting.

Today we needed 15 caches for the Idus Marti Trophy and this was 1 we found. Enjoyed the walk around the Docklands area - some places we have not been before so thanks for showing us a different part of Melbourne. Made a quick find thanks to the detailed hint. Cache and contents in good condition.

Many thanks Caughtatwork for publishing this cache for our enjoyment and adding to our geocaching experience.

After a quick bite to eat at Renzo's nearby the geodaughter and I stopped here.

The artificial grass was soggy so I worked hard here.

But it was a fairly quick find.

Signing the log we soon moved on.

Planning for this trip began in June - we knew we would be heading to Adelaide but which way would we go? This depended on our targets. We looked at our list of unclaimed Dragon Zone trophies and picked out several that we could feasibly collect the required number of finds to qualify for the trophy. We then had to identify caches that would meet our targets and from here it was time to plan a route that would take us past the caches we had identified. Any caches too far off our route were discarded and replaced by suitable alternatives.

All was running smoothly until the Christmas in July game was announced. We would be travelling in the latter part of the game. It was difficult to include this in our target caches as we did not know what was required. Once the game began and we understood what we needed to do we could then add other caches to the target list.

We were just getting our heads, yes all four of them, around this when more Dragon Zone trophies were added. Which ones could we meet and which should we ignore? Do we need to add more GA caches and/or do we need to change our route and our targets? We decided on our target list and then our route and timeline. We had just drawn a line under everything and were about to begin printing our caching booklets, route maps and target lists when caught@work published 23 new caches on the Western Ring Path. Earlier we had decided on the caches in the Edgewater Walk series. If we added the new ones on the Western Ring Path and as many of the CCC series as possible, we could probably reach the required number of caches to qualify for the Dragon Zone trophies “Restraining Order Stalker” (Find 100 DZ caches hidden by the same cacher) and “Obsession!=Insanity” (find 50 DZ caches in a day). As the latter would give us our first Blaze Trophy, it was decided to alter everything to include the CCC series.

We usually head out of the Melbourne CBD as soon as we disembark from The Spirit of Tasmania as we do not enjoy city caching. If we were going to tackle the CCC series we would have to start in Docklands, then move to Edgewater walk and the Western Ring Path. Caches in these series also carry nice points for the Christmas in July game. New lists drawn up, alterations made to the route and maps. New line drawn and printing and collating begun. No major changes now (unless something significant gets published just before we leave – we cannot be too inflexible when caching is involved).

It has been some time since we have cached in the Docklands area and our first impression was the large areas of development which have taken place. This development seemed to have impacted on satellite signals as both our GPS units were quite erratic and, in general, took quite some time to settle. The detailed hints were very much appreciated as it enabled us to start searching without waiting for the GPS to settle and so made searching more efficient.

Again the search was facilitated by a very precise hint and the complete absence of muggles. We were able to make a quick find of a very well hidden cache. The cache and contents were in good condition.

Thanks caught@work for this cache and all the caches you have placed around Docklands. And yes we are practising for our dissertation.

#GA1792 - 13:50; In Melbourne for a few days to visit the geoteen, after breakfast and a spot of caching around Carlton, I headed to Docklands to continue my caching mission while the other members of the geofamily did some retail therapy. I had collected a few caches in this series yesterday and was out to collect a few more today. It seems the series has been a little neglected after a flurry of activity in January, so I set about changing that while I am here. Another quick find after an art stop nearby, but got a damp knee during retrieval and replacement of the cache. TFTC caughtatwork Very HappyClan Cerberus

That synthetic turf is just so comfortable to lie down on. I nearly fell asleep and forgot why I was there.

So, from the wall it was on to the long bench....a walk of about 380 metres...past all the market stalls that were set up, which made me think this one could be a tricky, if available at all, find. Once at GZ...and yep, it's a long bench.....the book stall set up right there looked to be an issued....but no...GZ seemed to be out of his line of sight....and that proved right as the neatly hidden little Sistema was spotted. Opened the log and scored yet another *FTF*....which just made me wonder where everyone else went.....but of course I was going to find that out later. Felt like I was killing this cache chase thing, but alas, something else I was going to learn...and very soon...was that those who run like the wind....will find more then those who walk. Oh well, I'm at 3 from 4 with 3 FTF's....so all was good to me.

Continuing the fun.....thanks again Caughtatwork ClappingClapping

We had hoped this was where we thought and we were correct. A short break after finding this one and we were off again.

Wow so close to all the muggles, but the hide was well hidden and I found it easily. Signed and completed. It was at this stage I noticed the goodies in the stall and the coffee van, noting that would soon be my next stop.
