Description

CCC27 - The Rock Wall

A rock wall with a micro. I expect you hate me right about now. But fear not, it’s not quite as tough as you might expect. While the geocache container itself is a micro the geocache itself is fist sized and you should be able to spot the obvious difference once you see it. If you are still struggling to see it there is a nice hint that will put you in the right location. This geocache is not wheelchair friendly as there are rocks to roll over just to get to the geocache location. Retrieval should be easy if you are game enough to take the trip across to it. Watch the drop off. It’s a long way down and not just for kids, adults will topple over too.

Nice time of day to admire the view.

No one out and about round here on a Sunday.

Made for a quick retrieval, sign and replace.

This one took a minute to locate but following the hint led me to it. I wonder what the muggles leaving the carpark thought I was doing. A few drops of rain started falling so time to head back to the car.
Thanks caughtatwork for the cache.

I really liked this cache placement, it had me stumped for a bit but eventually was able to put the clue in perspective. I almost ran into disaster when the I dropped part of it but lucky for me the bounce had it at my feet and not the other way.

Thanks for a quick afterwork cache, Im slowly working my way theough the docklands caches after beleiving it was a bit of a void caching wise when I was going off the geocaching.com map.

I travelled back home to SA from Perth for family reasons and decided that Melbourne is only a short hop from Adelaide, so I logged an attendance at the Parkville Mega event and headed over for 5 days in Melbourne. I hired an E bike and had it for 4 days so was able to get around to many places and grab lots of caches as well as biking from the Youth Hostel in North Melbourne to Parkeville which was only a short ride. I arrived Thursday arvo and headed into the cbd from North Melbourne for a quick look around and then back to the Hostel I was too early to pick up the bike so jumped on a tram and headed to the docklands and grabbed some caches in the area. I can not believe how much the CBD and docklands has changed since we were here about 5 years ago. This cache was a very easy find because as i got close to it i spotted it. It blends in so well with the others. Clever hide and still in good condition. Thanks for bringing me here and to the cache Caughtatwork. ClappingClan Minotaur

This was really awesome, I loved the idea behind it and the cache was really well hidden. Found with toy hunters - TFTC C@W!

Found with jinxed13 on our holiday to Melbourne. After watching the Doggies win against the Blues, we walked around Docklands to get more of the CCC caches...despite the patchy rain and wind. A quick and easy find at GZ. TFTC C@W! Clan Cerberus

Out for an evening stroll in the city after a weekend keeping an eye on the kids while the better half escaped for some Mother's Day fun.

Hahaha... I passed this one earlier without realising. Hot tip: don't place the log container on top while signing, or you'll end up playing one of those claw games, like they have in the pubs. Fortunately, I had a spare onboard, so all is good.

Thanks, C@W. More entertaining than it should have been, but hey...

Today we needed 15 caches for the Idus Marti Trophy and this was 1 we found. Enjoyed the walk around the Docklands area - some places we have not been before so thanks for showing us a different part of Melbourne. Made a quick find thanks to the detailed hint. Cache and contents in good condition.

Many thanks Caughtatwork for publishing this cache for our enjoyment and adding to our geocaching experience.

Another trip to Melbourne with a few hours to fill in before loading passengers and returning home via the long road.
Today was planned as a caching day around part of the Docklands area followed by a long slow lunch.
This one took a bit longer to find. So many possibilities, and with a security camera very close by.

Thanks again.

Planning for this trip began in June - we knew we would be heading to Adelaide but which way would we go? This depended on our targets. We looked at our list of unclaimed Dragon Zone trophies and picked out several that we could feasibly collect the required number of finds to qualify for the trophy. We then had to identify caches that would meet our targets and from here it was time to plan a route that would take us past the caches we had identified. Any caches too far off our route were discarded and replaced by suitable alternatives.

All was running smoothly until the Christmas in July game was announced. We would be travelling in the latter part of the game. It was difficult to include this in our target caches as we did not know what was required. Once the game began and we understood what we needed to do we could then add other caches to the target list.

We were just getting our heads, yes all four of them, around this when more Dragon Zone trophies were added. Which ones could we meet and which should we ignore? Do we need to add more GA caches and/or do we need to change our route and our targets? We decided on our target list and then our route and timeline. We had just drawn a line under everything and were about to begin printing our caching booklets, route maps and target lists when caught@work published 23 new caches on the Western Ring Path. Earlier we had decided on the caches in the Edgewater Walk series. If we added the new ones on the Western Ring Path and as many of the CCC series as possible, we could probably reach the required number of caches to qualify for the Dragon Zone trophies “Restraining Order Stalker” (Find 100 DZ caches hidden by the same cacher) and “Obsession!=Insanity” (find 50 DZ caches in a day). As the latter would give us our first Blaze Trophy, it was decided to alter everything to include the CCC series.

We usually head out of the Melbourne CBD as soon as we disembark from The Spirit of Tasmania as we do not enjoy city caching. If we were going to tackle the CCC series we would have to start in Docklands, then move to Edgewater walk and the Western Ring Path. Caches in these series also carry nice points for the Christmas in July game. New lists drawn up, alterations made to the route and maps. New line drawn and printing and collating begun. No major changes now (unless something significant gets published just before we leave – we cannot be too inflexible when caching is involved).

It has been some time since we have cached in the Docklands area and our first impression was the large areas of development which have taken place. This development seemed to have impacted on satellite signals as both our GPS units were quite erratic and, in general, took quite some time to settle. The detailed hints were very much appreciated as it enabled us to start searching without waiting for the GPS to settle and so made searching more efficient.

After finding Rain Forest we were able to quickly make our way to this one. For once the GPS settled quickly and accurate coordinates resulted in a quick find of a nice little cache well suited to its hide. Cache and contents were in good condition.

Thanks caught@work for this cache and all the caches you have placed around Docklands. And yes we are practising for our dissertation.

#GA1796 - 20:45; In Melbourne for a few days to visit the geoteen and after a nice meal in Bourke Street, I headed back to Docklands for one last mission before heading for home in the morning. Second stop and a quick find, even in the dark. I'm not sure what happened to the initial cache hunters here Laughing, although it might be under 'surveillance' from the building nearby. Woo Hoo! Number 7. We loved this one, as it was very clever and logged as a FTF for us. Great sneaky hide.

Checked at the end of the event and the cache is indeed in place. It's a bit tough without the hints (and the game players were up for 100 points cost to open the hints), but the cache is still there just waiting fror the FTF.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't. This is where I should have released that I was never going to beat 'the hare' so I should have opened the hint list that was in my hand....certainly would have helped with a couple I DNF'd from here...including this one.

Arrive to find 'the hare' searching the rock wall but having no luck. The hare looked for another minute or so before heading off, while I looked a bit longer. I thought the cache would stand out a little, as these ones can do (as long as it was what I thought it was WhistleWhistle ) but in the end I had to give it away and move on. I did send a text message to the CO saying..."Yes, we do hate you about now..." all in good fun of course....and in reply to the cache description, but alas, no witty reply was received.

So that makes me 6 from 8.....with time almost at the halfway point. Time to move on. Thanks for this one anyway caughtatwork.
