Description

CCC45 - To the Colonnade

In classical architecture, a colonnade denotes a long sequence of columns joined by their entablature, often free-standing, or part of a building. Paired or multiple pairs of columns are normally employed in a colonnade which can be straight or curved. Unless you head to the colonnade, you won’t see anything like that at this location. The 200ml grey sistema container you seek is separated from the colonnade by elevation. This location is not friendly to wheelchairs as the geocache will be well above head height and small children should be closely supervised here as there are two roads very close to the geocache location. The rating on this geocache is high as you are in one of the concrete canyons and getting an accurate GPS signal is tough. The hint, should you choose to you it should assist greatly.

I was in town for a parcel pickup and figured that I'd try for couple of these GCA caches. This was the only attempt in the end due to muggles at the other one but once I'd read every letter of the hint Embarassed, I was signing the log at 12:30 and on my way. Very Happy

TNLNSL. Thanks caughtatwork.

After a vax nearby I enjoyed a little sunlight before heading back to the car.

Perfect time to claim these as the area is so quiet.

The cache is safe and sound.

Signed the log and moved on.

Last find in the area with Toy Hunters as we filled in a bit of time waiting for AFL game time. Quiet around here at this time on a Sunday meant a search without interruption so the cache was quickly found. Log signed, cache returned and we off.

Thanks caughtatwork.....only Field of Nightmares left now....but that will have to wait for another trip.

Another circuitous route up and down a couple of sets of stairs and I was on site. I didn't have time for a long search with my parking running out so luckily I only had to wait out one smoker before I could search. I put my hand on the container on the second place I checked so I was soon on my way.
Thanks caughtatwork for the caching fun this afternoon.

#GA2230 - 07:50; Accompanied the geoteen to Melbourne on her first drive down and into the city, where she has been studying for the past 12 months, after she decided it was time to bring the vehicle down too. After a long day on the road, I overnighted not far from Docklands and decided that an early morning wander was in order to collect a few of the CCC series I had not picked up on previous excursions. After abandoning the hunt for another in the series, I headed along to this one and was grateful to make a quick find. The GPSr didn't like all of the tall structures in the area, but I was able to use the map to get to GZ and grab the cache. TFTC caughtatwork Very HappyClan Cerberus

Planning for this trip began in June - we knew we would be heading to Adelaide but which way would we go? This depended on our targets. We looked at our list of unclaimed Dragon Zone trophies and picked out several that we could feasibly collect the required number of finds to qualify for the trophy. We then had to identify caches that would meet our targets and from here it was time to plan a route that would take us past the caches we had identified. Any caches too far off our route were discarded and replaced by suitable alternatives.

All was running smoothly until the Christmas in July game was announced. We would be travelling in the latter part of the game. It was difficult to include this in our target caches as we did not know what was required. Once the game began and we understood what we needed to do we could then add other caches to the target list.

We were just getting our heads, yes all four of them, around this when more Dragon Zone trophies were added. Which ones could we meet and which should we ignore? Do we need to add more GA caches and/or do we need to change our route and our targets? We decided on our target list and then our route and timeline. We had just drawn a line under everything and were about to begin printing our caching booklets, route maps and target lists when caught@work published 23 new caches on the Western Ring Path. Earlier we had decided on the caches in the Edgewater Walk series. If we added the new ones on the Western Ring Path and as many of the CCC series as possible, we could probably reach the required number of caches to qualify for the Dragon Zone trophies “Restraining Order Stalker” (Find 100 DZ caches hidden by the same cacher) and “Obsession!=Insanity” (find 50 DZ caches in a day). As the latter would give us our first Blaze Trophy, it was decided to alter everything to include the CCC series.

We usually head out of the Melbourne CBD as soon as we disembark from The Spirit of Tasmania as we do not enjoy city caching. If we were going to tackle the CCC series we would have to start in Docklands, then move to Edgewater walk and the Western Ring Path. Caches in these series also carry nice points for the Christmas in July game. New lists drawn up, alterations made to the route and maps. New line drawn and printing and collating begun. No major changes now (unless something significant gets published just before we leave – we cannot be too inflexible when caching is involved).

It has been some time since we have cached in the Docklands area and our first impression was the large areas of development which have taken place. This development seemed to have impacted on satellite signals as both our GPS units were quite erratic and, in general, took quite some time to settle. The detailed hints were very much appreciated as it enabled us to start searching without waiting for the GPS to settle and so made searching more efficient.

As we were not familiar with the area it took us a while to navigate the building works that had closed off several foot paths and made our journey a little longer. Once we managed to get close, within 20 of GZ, we use the hint to get us to the hide. All was quiet so we made a quick find, sign and return. Another good hide! Cache and contents were in good condition.

Thanks caught@work for this cache and all the caches you have placed around Docklands. And yes we are practising for our dissertation.

My mission was to visit a whole bunch of ex (as in parrot) Victorian Premiers for this year's major challenge. Once all the nearby notables were accounted for (and a few chance discoveries in parts of the cemetery I'd not, at least in recent years, visited), it was time to move on.

With not enough time left to add to the tally of pollies, I decided to see how many of this new series I could find. These have been on the radar since I had family issues mean a no-show at the competition for which they were placed. A short tram trip or two to a pretty good starting point courtesy of the literal leave pass I'd been given by the better half, and I was off and running. Well... strolling..

There's a hide nearby that I chose the wrong approach for... which put me on track for this one. A surprising number of people approaching from at least five directions meant patience was required after I'd located the hide by touch, but that's urban caching for ya. Thanks, C@W.

About this time every year I get to spend a few very tiring days at Jeff's Shed for the International Toyfair. Not as an exhibitor but as a retailer trying to find the next hot product at an acceptable price.
Evenings are spent poring over paperwork and writing stock orders. When that's finished I get a chance to walk the streets of Melbourne CBD (one of my great loves) and search for a few caches. Tonight I concentrated on a few more of the caches placed for the recent CCC event.

This was the last cache for the evening then it was a long walk in to Swanston street for a sugar filled crepe before walking back along Southbank to my accommodation beside the WTC.

Thanks for this series of great caches. I've still got a few to find but they'll have to wait for another trip.

This was lucky 13 find today. A quick get in and get out and the unsuspecting muggles on their phone were none the wiser.

this took a little searching as I initially went much higher than I needed to be. found quick enough when I was at the right height
