See what happens when you forget to check all the websites. I knew this was here but when I logged I only logged on Geo . com.
I had to drop off a parcel for a friend in Canada.
My husband used to come here as a kid with all his UK family visiting down under back in the 70's. There were no birds there when I went so will have to go back.

The grandparents bought the kids tickets to the wildlife sanctuary for Christmas and we are finally cashing them in. We decided to use the extra hour we gained by crossing the NSW QLD border by feeding the lorries.
The kids had fun with all the birds flying around, even if the first plate was dropped as soon as a bird landed on it. The birds seemed just as interested in everyone's heads as the food. Just as Granny went to take a photo a plane flew over and all the birds flew away, much to the merriment of all.
Thanks for the virtual cache!

This morning, I topped up my go explore pass, hopped on a bus and headed up to Currumbin to go and find some caches.
I ended up wandering in the direction of Palm Beach and targeted a few hides in particular, though I didn't get quite as far north as I expected, having somewhat overestimated my phone battery's mileage!
The GC virtual here had caught my attention, and it was only when I thought to check for GCA caches in the area on the bus ride up that I noticed there was a 2-for-1 deal to be had!
The requirements for this one were a bit easier to fulfil and I've attached some photos to this log.
No lorikeets here at the moment as feeding time has passed, but I do recall feeding them as a youngun, and even recently bought a Pathtag with a Currumbin lorikeet feeding design on it!

I had to do maintenance on my nearby Multi cache and checked out the feeding area while I was here. I remember coming here back in the '50. It was a Must Do when showing visitors around the coast. It is good to see that it has survived the years and grown a lot bigger.
Driving past and now we know that the feeding area is free to enter dropped in for the cache. We both have photos form the 1960s of us feeding the birds here and we started bringing our own kids here in the 1980's. Thanks for reminding us of this place BARBBOWMAN and thanks for the VC

Remember bring the kids here over 20 years ago.
Then driving past it many years later and thinking it looked a bit run down.
Today after finally finding a parking spot we wandered in and were impressed with the place, perhaps it has had a facelift since the last time we drove past.
Unfortunately we didn't time our visit with the feeding but got the required photo and then after a quick look around the gift shop continued on our caching way.
Thanks.

Caching in the area with whitewebbs and this was one of the virtual caches we found. Long time since our last visit here when we did see birds feeding but not today.
Many thanks Barbbowman for publishing this virtual cache and adding to our geocaching experience.

Out and about caching in the area with Tassie Trekkers and we stopped to take a photo. Unfortunately the birds were not being fed. We did see them feeding about 25 years ago which is when we were here last. TFTV

Today’s outing was to the curry, bin Wildlife Sanctuary. We rode Segways around the park, we saw a kola in the CWS Hospital, we fed Kamgaroos, we had lunch, but we missed both the Lorrikeet feeding times. But the feeding area does make an excellent area to practice riding a Segway

Today the whole of Currumbin was in muggle overload and carparks were like winning the lottery.....but where there's a will there's a determined geocacher's way. Sadly no amount of determination was going to produce lorikeets though so our pic, like the others, shows an empty frame. TFTC barbbowman.

This virtual cache bought back some wonderful childhood memories for me. will have to come back again at feeding time. TFTC Thanks for the trip back in time.
Well we tried... checked the website feeding at 8am and 4pm. OK if I leave work on time then come and pick up the other half we can get there in time, then after we have our photos we'll have coffee at the café.
That was the plan, but in all manner of things of mice and men and lorikeets, there was a hitch. We showed up, the volunteers who run the feeding sessions turned up, the crowds all waving the metal plates that they just made a gold coin donation for waited patiently for their plate to have its quota of nectar turned up. The lorikeets failed to show. OK two did a fly past about 15min after the start but did not stop to have a snack.
I can hear why right now as I type up this log at home. Home is just 3km as the lorikeet flies from Ground Zero, a nice little leafy suburb where the callistemons (bottle brushes) are flowering rather well. The lorikeets are going nuts just up the hill from my place. If I waited long enough I could give you a photo of a lorrie gorging him/herself on the bottlebrush in my front yard. But that's not the point of this virtual.
So we chatted to one of the volunteers for a while, took our photo of the lorikeet feeding area, went and had coffee and a cake and came home to write the log and claim first to first.
Its been quite a while since I was last at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, thanks for a reason to go and thanks for the virtual.
