Description

2016/17 Summer Scavenger Series cache

The cache is not at the published coordinates.

You will find the geocache at S33 29.??? E150 52.???

A local astronomer was observing the night sky recently with the latest and greatest computer assisted telescope. Attached to the telscope was a DSLR camera and in his kit he had several custom made camera filter attachments which turned his setup into a full spectrum ‘super camera'. A small selected group of individuals have had the privildge of working with the setup and viewing the nightsky, the names of these individuals appear in the night log located in the cache. For an opportunity to view the scene yourself and have your name inscribed in the night log, you must crack the following code:

Towards the south three measurements where recorded:

  • 600
  • 760
  • 470

Towards the east another three measurements where recorded:

  • 390
  • 650
  • 760

Out and about on a bit of a walk from home, checked in and found this one. Great spot for a good view above the river. Even after a couple of years cache is in good nick

#GA2340 - 12:30; Day two of the Macquarie mayhem cache hunt with Sol de lune and andrewbt. After a big day one with 56 out 59 finds, we were optimistic about another successful day two. A few cold ones, a few logs and a few more claims for the States of the Nation game set the scene for a good night's sleep and a spring in our step as we packed up and hit the trail again today. Hope the CO's are enjoying all the Karma points rolling in as we get through our logs Whistle. Headed off from our previous find along the track with a view to grabbing a closer cache. The track took us in a different direction, so we grabbed this one first. Nice views from up here and worth the walk in. TFTC teamMerlin Very HappyClan Cerberus

One at GZ the cache was found without issue.....the problem was getting the puzzle solved for us to have the GZ. Brick WallBrick Wall AndrewBT did the work and with contact made with the CO the required help was given. Have to say without the help this one would still be unfound by us.

Thanks to TeamMerlin for the help and for the cache.

24 of 35 today

This one did my head in for a bit!

Help from the CO helped me, so the co-ords were quickly worked out!

Another one in the scrub. TFTC TM!

Arriving at GZ, I thought I'd need a light to see one. A bit of precarious crawling brought it into view though. The breeze coming up the hill was glorious.

Solved this one a long time ago but too many other caches take precedent so near but yet so far from making the grab. Well that all changed after the Canada event at Tizzanas. After I left the event headed up here. Parked in a spot that I have parked many times before. Headed off passed a car that has now got a green sticker on it, see how long it takes before it is moved. Headed along the well formed track and watching the GPSr counting down. At 10 metres the accuracy on the GPSr said it was 11 metres. Don't know what was affecting that. Looked in lots of likely hiding spaces but couldn't find anything so expanded my search area but still nothing. So went over to a section that I noticed as soon as got to the area but dismissed as too far away from GZ. It was here I spotted the cache, should have trusted my instinct. Signed the cache and replaced as found. Both the cache and log are in good condition. Thanks for the puzzle teamMerlin

With the geoKids at school it was time for a few last minute scavenges for the summer series and this one meet one of them. The puzzle wasn't an easy one to crack, but with a few probing questions the coordinates made themselves known. Parking in what has become a familiar spot made our way up to GZ... standing at the top of the steepish precipice we inched our way around the 16 inch platform and knelt down to have the full spectrum of the night log shine from within. I saw the light on this one yesterday whilst attending the event. It waited until today when I returned to a familiar area for a bush walk. A short search at GZ soon had the cache in hand. tftc

Well, despite my love for astromony and other scientific pursuits, I didn't see the light on this one until someone shined it in my face! Had a good walk and chat with Blossom* while retrieving it. I was right next to it, but again, didn't "see the light>'

I have spent many hours googling all sort of astronomical information and found many very knowledgeable and scientific texts on the subject. Unfortunately, none of them were very much help! However, finally I worked out a sequence that might help and with quite a few trials (and errors), I got the one that was correct (with a tip-off to pinpoint a number)!

So I headed out to find the cache which is in another really lovely spot with great views. Dancing
