Description

One of many opportunities to learn about the history of The Blue Mountains.

The Pointman's House if a small stone structure that sits on the corner of The Great Western Highway and Ross Street. Locals have most probably seen it on their regular drives down and up the mountain, or when pulling intpo the service station which shares its space. There is plenty of parking on the southern side of the highway, just west of the servo, or you can pull into Ross St and park in the car park for the comminuty centre and cinema. If you are lucky, you can score the one parking spot that exists between the sevo entrance and exit driveways. Find the plaque outside the house and answer the following questions in an email to me.

1. When was the house built?

2. Which company restored the house?

3. How many separate pices of glass are used in the front windows?

Happy caching!

We had a break from the drive in Glenbrook today, and stretched the legs for a pair of trigs and a pair of virtuals, and a pair of trad DNFs. Nice spot, worth the stop.... TFTC!

I took the opportunity to get a bit of solitary outdoor recreation in this part of the world today while the cuddle muggle had a mental health day with her bestie in Penrith. I'd just completed the nearby Adventure Lab and while having a bite to eat, I had a look at the GC and GA geo-maps to see whether there were any handy caches about, and saw two virtuals not far apart and both close to where I was. A photo stop here to get the required answers (which have now been sent to the CO) and then over to do the GC virtual ... one unplanned stop, two quick smilies, I like it!

Thanks for publishing this virtual cache alnic39, which ties in nicely with Toriaz's tunnels & trains Adventure Lab.

Stopped by with oldmorty. Always wondered what this lovely building was. Thanks alnic39 for getting us to stop on our way up the mountains.

Frazeydaze and I stopped off here for lunch on our way to Blackheath for a couple of days R&R. We have often wondered what this building was, never ever having walked over to it to check it out.

Found with lachnic, with the help of Geodad.

Nice and easy and even easier to answer the questions.

#2470 - 13:20; Day one of a caching mission in the Blue Mountains with Sol de lune. After an early start in Canberra, we collected a few of the newer caches along the highway before we reached the foot of the mountains and started the major part of the mission, to collect GCA caches to help us meet some dragonZone trophy requirements. We had enjoyed a great start having picked up a few caches already, including the 10K series, as we now headed for the hills. Second stop in Glenbrook, where we soon had our history lesson out of the way and the information we needed to hand. A cold drink from the servo and we were underway again. In the area with LuckyL10n for a couple of days and stop by this one to check it. Grabbed the required answers, which have been sent off to CO...

An interesting location that I've driven past before, but sadly have not seen.

Thanks alnic for giving us the reason to stop.

Headed to do the Multi at the visitors Centre, so decided to go via the Railway Pointman's House for the info for this one. We have seen the building a lot of times since we live in the area but have never taken the time to stop and look at its history. Thanks alnic39 for bringing us here. TFTC

A short stop on the way home from Leura, has seen this house before and wondered what is was. Stopped, walked over with 30 degrees today and made a few pictures before jumping back in the car.

Was completing some caching in the area today. Isn’t amazing you drive past this hundreds of times & don’t take much notice of it – thanks for showing & the history

Fabulous example of another 1800s building. Some great history too that I'd not known about even though theis cottage has been here since forever. I've passed by here countless times since my childhood.
Glorious winters day today so after a post parkrun treat at the Bakehouse and before meeting up for a spot of abseiling, I stopped to read the plaque. Great cache.

Came down to Glenbrook to check on my cache, and walked over to this one afterwards. Took some photos, and got the answers to email to the CO.

Have always liked this old house, sitting there all by itself next to the service station.

Thanks Very Happy

Got there this morning to check out the cottage and plaque. Strangely I had never looked twice at this nice cottage before!
Thanks for making me take notice.
